I'm reminded of one of Enoch Root's lines in Cryptonomicon, about a quarter of the way through the book, when asked if he could speak Italian.

"But my Italian is heavily informed by the Latin that my father insisted that I learn. So I would probably sound rather old-fashioned to the locals. In fact, I would probably sound like a seventeenth-century alchemist or something."

The seventeenth century sounds about right for Quicksilver. Interesting, huh?

Sort of. At least in Canada, recording a broadcast signal is legal. That doesn't mean the broadcaster is obligated to broadcast in the clear, just that they're not allowed to sue you or charge you if you happen to be able to record their signal. It's probably different in other countries.

I'm American, and like many other Americans, I respect the idea of a free Quebec.

You don't understand what's at stake. I'm from one of the Atlantic provinces (For people who learned geography in the US, these provinces are the ones that border the Atlantic ocean) and I don't want to be physically seperated from the rest of the country, as would happen if Quebec became independant.

And before some wiseass says "Join the US!" let me just say that the US is a festering cesspool of political corruption, racial bigotry, media censorship, and environmental destruction, and I want no part of it.

And regarding signs, not all French speaking people live in Quebec. Ever heard of Acadians?

That buttfucker DeGaulle really screwed things up. May he rot in hell.

One use I'd heard of is in construction work where there's limited room to move around. Instead of constantly moving in and out of small spaces to check a paper contruction plan, one could just put on a wearable, review the design without having to get out, and in the end be able to get the job done a lot quicker. Might be useful for diving, too. Wearables seem destined for industrial use in the near future. And maybe those who really, really want to be gargoyles. But I'm probably 100% wrong. :)

there is NO legitimate need for a dial-up user to connect directly to someone else's SMTP server. EVER.

What if one's ISP doesn't have SMTP service in the first place? Furthermore, suppose one lives where there is no competition in the ISP business, so it would be impossible to switch? Don't laugh, I've seen both cases in fairly large cities. Big companies swallowing up the small ones. Just because you might not have seen something, doesn't mean it hasn't happened to someone else.
