Apple? Go after Adobe? Why on earth would Apple want to hurt the single company that makes software for their OS?

Sold out? Jeez, come on up to the Bathurst, New Brunswick Walmart. I've got a stockroom *full* of the things. I sold about three today.

I wonder how much effort it would take to make a toilet in the shape of a PC that looks like it's fallen backwards? Maybe have a BSOD painted on the inside of the bowl.
I'll leave your sick imaginations think of ways to properly thank MS.

I do. I wasn't allowed to install software on any school computers when I was in junior high, so I had a copy of Netscape 1.0 on a floppy that I carried around. Took awhile to start, but it was better than Mosaic.

None of that "Star Wars" game concept of "pan a little bit to the left or to the right, but we'll stop you here because we didn't want to develop more scenery past this point".
Amen from the highest fucking rooftops. I wish Lucasarts would make another genuine flight simulator like XWA, rather than Yet Another Shitty Arcade Game like Rogue Squadron and Rogue Leader.
Oh, silly me. Crappy arcade games take less time and less people to develop. Cheaper to make equals higher profit margin if successful and lower losses if it bombs. What could I have been thinking?
Just the opposite, in fact. It's since become abandonware, server programs are freely available, and some smart folks have created a new freeware client called Continuum. It's still going strong.:)

Excellent points. And not only is the DC a great game system, but if you've got a cd burner you can turn it into a nice VCD player, or an MP3 jukebox, or a kickass NES emulator, or a BSD/Linux machine.
My brother saw me playing Legend of Zelda on my DC one time, and he just shook his head.:)

No, it's going to be settled by parents looking to buy a new video game system for their kids.
The Gamecube is almost half the price, has Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, and all the other standard kid's games. It's also brightly coloured. Believe it or not, parents have mentioned to me how "cute" the thing looks. I work in electronics at Walmart, so I know a teeny tiny bit about what parents are really looking for.
The X-box is almost double the price of the Gamecube and has absolutely no kid's games.Apparently, it also looks "ugly".
If you were a parent looking for a big christmas gift, which one would you get for your kids? Later on, maybe other factors will come into play, but the first round in this war will be won by parents looking to placate their kids.
And if the Gamecube crushes the Xbox early on, which one do you think developers will flock to?
On the other hand, in 16 years of owning various console systems (NES, SNES, PSX, DC, N64, GB, even a secondhand Atari 2600) I have never, ever seen a single game crash. Also, I have only once had to upgrade any console (the $20 video upgrade for the N64).
The only games on my PC are Subspace, Tachyon and X-Wing Alliance.
Oh, and Nethack of course. But Nethack hardly requires much in the way of CPU resources or graphics cards.:)
Same thing with Opera. If I had to switch to Mozilla, I'd fucking kill someone. Konquerer is much better than Mozilla in terms of resource usage and reliability, but I don't want to install QT and the entire KDE system just to run a single application.
Ditto. For me it's CAN$40 a month for guaranteed unmetered 250KB/s upload and download. By comparison, unlimited dialup where I live is CAN$25. Add in the fact that I need my phone line to be clear at all times means I'd have to get a second line for dialup. That's CAN$50 here.
Hmm. That means DSL here is almost half the total price of dialup for 50 times the speed. Even if you don't need the second line, it's only 15 bucks more over an entire month. A pretty good deal, I'd say.
The only complaint I've got is the lack of a static external IP (it's only static on the ISP own network), but that can be solved with any of a hundred free no-ip.com type services.
Don't you get it? Kernel development is like an old Flash Gordon serial. Team Linux has to race to save the universe every week from evil. They literally do save us from doomsday all the time.
Nope. It seems like "middleware" is a gov't neologism for "applications". Microsoft, that bastion of good will and freedom, will generously allow OEMs to preload non-MS applications for Windows. How kind of MS! I'm sure this will solve the whole crisis.

NO! Keep that maniac away from Windowmaker. I don't want to have to switch to Afterstep.
He isn't saying that we should shut down www.staroffice.com, or that people who use WordPerfect should have their hands cut off.

I don't know. I can't really compare the two. Sylpheed will actually compile on a stock Slack 8 setup like mine. Balsa on the other hand...
Do you *really trust* every single PIN keypad at every shady gas station, grocery store, and Wal-Mart, not to have logging devices installed?

Funny as hell. Thanks for making my day. :)
It's easier on bandwidth to just send a few hundred bytes of text than streaming audio.
Either that, or you've just hung around for several years getting the occasional (+1, Funny). ;)

I don't know about Linux, but I'll bet those NetBSD nuts are eager to try to make a Gamecube port. :)
