True, but I didn't have a spare nic at the time.:) *grumblegrumble small town grumble goddamn shipping delays *grumblegrumble*
Oh well. Now it's a very nice little firewall. Even put copies of Slash'em and Nethack on it, for those times when I'm on a windows machine somewhere else and need entertainment.:)
I know I am...but I just feel I should spend more time enjoying my computer, and less time trying to get the software to work.
It's a fundamental difference between various types of users. For some of us, tweaking the OS to work exactly like we want is enjoying our computers. I'm not saying either way is better, I'm just pointing out that people are different.:)
I started with Slackware too, but only because that was the only distro that I could find buy in my small town (didn't have net access at home at that time). Since then I've tried Debian and Mandrake, and have come back to Slackware. I'm happily running 8 right now.
And Zipslack fucking OWNS.:) A real nice way to put Linux on old 486's with no cdrom.
That game is one of two that have actually scared me. AvP *must* be played in the dark to be fully appreciated. The first time a facehugger jumped me I screamed "JESUS CHRIST!", jerked back, and fell away from the computer.
The original Alien Doom total conversion was the other. Not quite as good graphics, but the first time throught that first level... damn scary.
Actually, that's *exactly* my point! The death of small, local ISPs is leaving rural areas and many small cities with only a few big ISPs. If these large ISPs use any kind of filtering, the only alternative is long-distance dialup or a proxy server outside of the ISP's network.
Suppose there's only two or three ISPs where you live. Imagine if they all subscribe to MAPS. What's your fucking solution now?
Move? Just pick up and leave? Suppose you've got a family, suppose you've got a good job that you'd be an idiot to leave? Suppose you're taking care of an elderly relative who's spent his or her entire life there? Suppose you just can't afford to leave?

When I hear the word "bipartisanship", I reach for my wallet.
When I hear the word "bipartisanship", I'm reminded of the fact that two-party systems are little better than one-party systems. In any decent democracy, you'd have "nonpartisanship".
The nvidia drivers are a kernel module and an X library driver, not a kernel patch.
Slightly OT, but what would be handy for people like me who can't code worth shit are utilities like mkpatch.pl in the lm_sensors package that make a custom patch for whatever your current kernel source is.
A nice program, but after seeing various coloured balls stacked straight up to lunar orbit almost every time I've used it, I'm going to be careful about how accurately I take it's results.:)
Windowmaker is like the girl next door that you keep coming back to because she's the perfect balance. Gnome is like the horny divorcee who's desperate for company and tries in vain to make herself look good. KDE is the preppy bitch cheerleader who requires way too much upkeep to keep happy. KDE also runs with a different crowd, calling themselves QTs, who are convinced of their own superiority.
And Opera kicks Konquerer's ass. As long as I'm pissing off the eyecandy freaks, I'll piss off the purity zealots too.
Ah, thanks. That makes a lot more sense.
Offtopic? What the fuck? Idiot moderator.
This is precisely the reason I read at -1. Too many good posts like this get censored by some asshole.
Similiar here, but for me it's:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/encap/foo-x.y ; make ; make install
/usr/local/encap
5)
6) cd
7) epkg foo-x.y
Take a look at http://www.encap.org/epkg/ . It gets rid of the single valid complaint that packaging nuts have against Slackware.

I only discovered Linux with Slack 3.4 and kernel 2.0.30. I feel like such a newbie compared to other slackers. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought primes didn't *have* factors besides themselves and one.
Or is this some new definition of "prime"?

"Renowned".
Dear god, Intercal in hardware. I'll never sleep again.
Really? Opera 5.05 under Linux still brings up that useful page telling me to upgrade my version of Explorer.
Ah, I see. So destroying civil rights is the best way to preserve them?
Cattle like you deserve the police state you'll get. Mooooooo.
By the way, I hear your freedom-loving government bombed another Red Cross station.

Hey, buttfucker, try this hypothetical situation:
Suppose there's only two or three ISPs where you live. Imagine if they all subscribe to MAPS. What's your fucking solution now?
Move? Just pick up and leave? Suppose you've got a family, suppose you've got a good job that you'd be an idiot to leave? Suppose you're taking care of an elderly relative who's spent his or her entire life there? Suppose you just can't afford to leave?
Goddammit, you beat me to it. :)

Fucking John Ashcroft and the rest of his gestapo cronies must have boners like concrete at the thought of their new powers.
All of sudden New Brunswick is way too close to the US. I want to emigrate to the moon or something.

Could be worse. There was no admin password on my old junior high school's Novell 3 network.
Didn't matter much anyway. That old server was little more than a glorified hub for the grand total of 18 386's we had sharing a 14.4 modem.
*shrug* Works just like Taco said under a decent browser, like Opera. It's your fault for using something slow and buggy.
(insert standard lame joke about Windows doing the same thing here)
You're right. It's just about half the size of Earth by now.
