These devices are doomed to fail. There is simply no reason to carry around a complete portable "media device." Video should be a separate device.
Why is it nearly every time I hear something like this it's wrong?
Whither cameraphones?
People _like_ less clutter, unified devices, etc. As long as the price is right, the interface is clean and usable, and the battery life is good enough. Not everyone wants to wear a gadget bandolero or cargo pants brimming with expensive fragile gear...
Frankly, Apple could 0wn this, but I doubt they'll try.
Just for giggles.. an 'extension' of the AT command set is used to program T68i phones for use as a bluetooth clicker.. There's SE documentation that covers building internal bookmark lists via AT commands, which is why the P800 isn't supported by the SonyEricsson clicker...
(Between listening to this on the plane ride home, reading Greg Bear's Blood Music, Terry Pratchett's The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents, and finishing Jonathan Lethem's Gun, with Occasional Music, it's been a pretty interesting vacation...)
Seriously, at this point, if you care about security, privacy, and functionality, you should be using Mozilla or one of its derivatives. It's definitely good enough to replace IE, and every sploit in IE should by right drive more users away from it, and into alternatives.
Using a Moz browser is not nearly as traumatic as switching whole OSes, so I'm a bit less sympathetic to the whole 'give the vendor time to patch' thing when it comes to IE, Outlook, and other replaceable apps.
... the third Matrix sucked, and now the third LOTR movie's gonna suck?
Then again, beyond Rocky III and Nightmare on Elm St. III, what 3rd movie in a series didn't absolutely suck moose bawlz? (hopefully not Once Upon A Time In China III, haven't seen _that_ yet..)
And my bud Random's gonna be _PISSED_, if his reaction to TTT is any indication...
(and I think I'll wait for the super-mega-duper-20-dvd set that'll be out in a year.. just look at the new Alien release)
... IIRC VAX filesystems supported version control, where you'd manipulate the filename alone to get the latest version of a file, or 'filename, version' to edit a different version. HPUX IIRC supported this as well.
However, the last time I touched a VAX was 1992 or so, and the last HPUX in 1998, so I could just as well be hallucinating.
Frankly, I'd rather see a generic database fs, I think that would be much cooler...
# mount -t dbfs mysql://dbfileserver/dbfs/mnt/dbfs # cd/mnt/dbfs # cat foo.txt foo # cat foo.txt/ACLs/system 0644 # echo "0664" > foo.txt/ACLs/user/foo # cat foo.txt/MIMEtype text/plain # cat foo.txt/Type file # dbfsfind./ -query 'Type="file" and MIMEtype="text/plain", order by CTime' ./foo.txt ./bar.txt ./baz/xyzzy.out
Let the underlying DB system handle LV stuff and get relational filesystem mgmt... Can the fs driver code handle extended behaviors when referencing files as directories? It's probably performance hell, but an interesting hack I think..
Vonage so far is neat, but unfortunately it only supports the ATA186 adapter. How about supporting software phones, maybe even a java-based web phone, so I can place calls anywhere I can find a computer with a soundcard? I'd love to be able to make phone calls on my sound-equipped PDA when in wifi range.. Or a battery (or ether) -powered ATA equivalent, portable for use when travelling.. That'd be teh kewl for business travellers wishing to keep their extension wherever they are..
Perhaps with a per-device charge, as they have with extra lines, to cover the increased utilization of their flat-rate plan and tech support.
What's enabling competition is a demand by customers for cheap, 'good enough' phone service that offers an alternative to the LECs (who are wont to keep prices inflated and have notoroiously lacking customer service) coupled with the increasing ubiquity of 'good enough' quality broadband connections at similarly good pricing.
Fair enough, but with a virtualized infrastructure and broadband, you can start thinking of adding other services as well, such as standardized videophones, cellphones with wifi builtin, and all sorts of interesting crap.
Price is the big pusher in this, but don't forget flexibility and open standardization...

They actually used these kites (scaled up somewhat) to lift up military observers, so the civilian version should be good for even a video camera...
They're a bitch to get up though, I'd recommend 20-30mph winds for a reliable experience. Also, strong arms: at least 100lb test line is necessary.

Is that the one starring a very young Eminem?

Bullshit. Just look at the Open Source movement.
Bullshit. The existence of Open Source is founded in copyright protection: just ask the FSF...

Weber cowrote 1633 with Eric Flint, who wrote 1632.
Both IIRC are available via the free library, and are very fun reads, particularly if you have a history bent.
Can't wait for the followups.
last time I tried mame on my P800, it was absolutely unplayable when sound was turned on, but with sound off it was pretty solid.

Then you and your fellow staff are tools.
What other response would you expect from Slashdot?
Sorry troll, these kicks are for trids..
Vegans (pronounced 'vee-gan') don't eat meat.
Vegans (pronounced 'vay-gan') love nothing more than the mouthwatering taste of human flesh.
You know, the one past the Oort cloud...

4MB per CPU, each with 2 processing cores, and an onboard memory controller.
Final version to have 65536 CPUs.
Smells like 256GB to me, which is pretty decent in _any_ book, especially if it lives on the same silicon as the CPU...

How about Army of Darkness? Loved that movie.
Tricky.. EDII was basically a readjustment of EDI, but I'll give it to you if only because Bruce Campbell 0wnz..

Talk about redundant..

It's very prestigious.

This device already exists. It's called a Roundabout. They have them all over the place in england but not in the states.
They have them everywhere in Massachusetts. Massachusetts drivers are the worst in the United States.
Draw your own conclusions...
Won't work in one-lane, one-way situations, ala much of downtown urban America..
;)
Still I'd _love_ one of these for my motorcycle
I hope it does find something, or something finds it. Earth could use some good news.
I for one welcome our alien overlords!
