I almost fell out of my chair when I read how large they are in terms of revenues and earnings! Did anyone else think Google was maybe a $10 million dollar-revenue company or what?
bsdgrrl: Not to be offtopic, but you have committed an act of copyright infringement. You copied my post from Yahoo!'s message board on the same article word for word with no attribution (my Yahoo! A couple weeks ago there was a discussion on/. about iTMS. One of the points I made is that I haven't used iTunes in a while because I have 4 computers at home and it was a hassle to keep authorizing/deauthorizing them because you were limited to three authorized systems. Another point was made that Apple should expand the number of authorized computers to 5 because their OS X "family plan" lets you install OS X on up to 5 computers...therefore they should be consistent.
As for reducing the playlist burn amount from 10 to 7, I don't think anyone will notice. Although CDRs are dirt cheap, they are pretty wasteful for the small amount of music they hold. Flash and HD music players are the way to go.
Good work, Apple! Next step: Get the songs I buy on iTMS to work with TiVo's Home Media Option.
How many times do we have to go over this? Direct mailers pay the postage themselves to send you junk mail. Spammers force you to pay to receive their spam via increased bandwidth costs, technical staff, etc. If you're a professional that charges by the hour, you'll know how frustrating it is to come in Monday and delete hundreds of messages...it costs me money and steals my resources.
All of my music (and my fiance's music) is sitting on a headless Linux fileserver running Samba, so netTunes will not work. I do have Andromeda set up on the server for streaming, but you still have to deal with the auth/deauth for each client.
I will not spend $500 on an iPod (after all, I'd need the largest one to fit my entire collection to get the desired functionality.)
Nor I will purchase a stereo to listen to my music. That's right, I don't have a stereo. Again, since the drm'd AAC files are on a Samba server, this is not an option anyway.
AFAIK, using Playfair for personal use of my private property behind closed doors is legal enough. A music service placing a technical restraint on a file is not the same thing as passing a law to be obeyed. I do not share my music over the net, which really is illegal.
I have four computers at home. It's a pain in the ass to keep track of authorizing/deauthorizing one computer or another just to listen to 1 song. The kicker is that I can't even *buy* music without going through the same process. It's entirely counter to Apple's philosophy of making things that "just work."
It's so much of a pain that I've given up my $10/week iTMS habit and haven't gone near iTunes since. The bottom line for Apple is that if I can get Playfair running, they get paid again. If not, they don't get another dime. Hey, if Apple's "Family Plan" for OS X lets you install it on 5 computers, why not at least extend the Fairplay DRM to work on 5 computers?
The types of programs that you pay for typically don't have the problem of spyware...it's only the free junk stuff like Weatherbug that causes the problem. So, switching from AIM to GAIM won't cause any financial burden/waste due to license costs.
I hate to be a grammar nazi, but for the freaking love of God, it is "Mac," not "MAC." It does not stand for anything, it is an abbreviation of "Macintosh." Too many people (who even supposedly know quite a bit about Macs) make this error. This reminds me of college professors who used to capitalize all the letters in "web" (as in WWW).
That first search result....OMFG! This guy isn't shitting you either...I just checked b/c I thought it was "reverse psychology." Now, I wish I had eaten dinner BEFOREhand!
Feh, I entered my dad's address and all it gave me was a 1995 photo of an empty field, a few years b4 his house was built. My office building shows up in a 1996 photo, but more buildings have gone up since then.
"This raises the question for me of what is the difference of seeing something with your eyes and taking a picture of it. "
The same difference between writing down notes at a meeting and then having a lawyer asking you to "put your pen down for a moment" before continuing with the meeting. One is recorded and one is not.
Oh, and no one will be allowed into any factory or remotely secure environment with one of these cameras.
He was only on 6 Clearchannel stations, so we're only talking $1.6mm. Clearchannel, being in bed with the current administration, more likely booted Howard off for his anti-bush comments and used the current situation with "indecency" fines as an excuse. Keep in mind that far-worse stuff comes out of the mouths of Clearchannel's own DJs.

"...functionality as embedding multimedia or animations into your documents."
So, do you have to print those out as flipbooks or what?
I downloaded KisMac the same day I installed the Airport card in my iBook. There is also iStumbler.

The legal name of Walmart (how I spell it) is "Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.," but they don't put the "stores, inc" in their domain name, either.
No, this would be a good job for paper tape!
The dots are too fine for the relatively shitty GB printer to output.
You obviously haven't seen the re-release of their famous "1984" commercial ;-)
I saw "PIP" being advertised on a billboard when I was in London. That is my entire knowledge of the UK retirement system :)

An employee retirement plan, where the employee (and usually the employer, too) contribute to it. It's like a PIP for you UK readers.
The movie was Knight Rider 2000 and the new car was the Knight 4000 (because the original one from the 80s was the Knight 2000).

If you drag the icon of a file into the terminal, the path+file name will show up.

It's been prominently displayed next to Windows in every Best Buy I've been to.

The government is the people's union. The problem is that most people are ignorant and/or lazy and dropped the ball.
