'Open source, he said, creates a license 'so that nobody can ever improve the software'
I've been using Linux since pre kernel 1.0 days. This explains why there is still no IDE support and I am stuck with that damn A.OUT executable format. I really wish they'd at least add support for more than VGA graphics. I know it's asking a lot, but I'd also like DVD and USB support.
If anything it's better to share games than to sit idle and stare at a screen while a non interactive movie or TV show plays. Games require some thought and action, even if it is minimal.
Thank you. The consumption of such pictures leads to more and more abuse. I have no problem with Google or anyone else supplying information of this nature as long as due process (i.e. subpoenas/warrants) is followed.
The 'party line' is that humans are the PRIMARY cause of the current warming trend (which incidentally may turn into a cooling tread really, really fast). That's just plain political BS. They do not KNOW all of the factors involved, and there is plenty of evidence that our contribution is negligible compared to natural forces.
Is he trying to make us believe that they couldn't get a decent software architect at MIT??? I really have to wonder how many zeros were in the check that Ballmer wrote him.
There are pros and cons to that approach. The big benefit is that the silo's can operate more flexibly and often can react faster to changing market conditions. The biggest con is the one you pointed out, the lack of 'synergies'
I agree. I have used Linux in one form or another since pre-kernel 1.0 days, *long* before it was 'fashionable, but it's just another tool in my opinion. I use Windows, Mac OS, Solaris, Linux...whatever tool suits my need at the time.
You obviously did not read the Tech Report's review then. Yes they mention the 'oddness' of 3 cores, but their tests are quite thorough and they do discuss performace ramifications as well as all the other things you'd expect.
It is not illegal in a privately owned company to issue new shares, which by definition dilutes *everyones* shares. Ebay will have to prove some sort of malice in order to have a chance in court on this.
Ok, point taken, and thank you for the respectful debate. I do not think we really disagree. My point was that we have to try to keep a very open mind about it. I'll concede that we have a few small clues, but we don't have much of a clue. There are no doubt many things we have not considered.
the odds against life forming on a planet are pretty grand as it is(we were pretty damn lucky).
That is pure speculation actually. We have NO IDEA what the odds are. Life, at least the primitive stuff, could be almost ubiquitous, or it could be the rarest thing in the Universe. Your statement about temporal factors is dead on though. Timing is everything.
Even coining the term 'greyware' is just a form of social engineering. "Oh it can't be THAT bad. I mean, it's grey, not black."
Malware is malware. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, I call it a duck. There is no such thing as 'greyware'.
Yeah, maybe they can even manage to work in a few major security holes too. That would be sweet, then it would be even more like Windows.

I think you missed the sarcasm of his entire post.

No, and that was not what I said. I'm pretty sure they could find at least ONE good software architect there. Nice try at trolling though :)

"Because I see a lot more superstitious twaddle about "power of two" and a lot less discussion of practical performance implications"
Make up your mind. The above is what I was replying to, then you change the subject.

This isn't really using the pressure of the solar wind for propulsion; rather it generates power from it which it then uses for propulsion. Neat idea.
I want mine to have 11.
I would not trust it no matter what company created it. They can have my data when they pry it from my cold, dead computer.
It's an anti tank weapon and it's just an evolution of current HEAT rounds. It was not Clarke's idea; his conception merely scaled it up quite a bit.

I would pay the current price for the iPhone if it had a real keyboard. That's the main show stopper for me. Well, that and 3G but that's coming soon.
It's a potential blow the the company, not the architecture. That was pretty obvious from the summary alone.

All space flights should have duct tape and a lowly carbon rod on board.
