Not really. You can use USB fobs too, or a bootable CD. For that matter, I can update my BIOS directly from Windoze these days. You may not have been trying to be a smart arse, but you *are* incorrect.
The best CRT I ever owned in terms of picture quality was a 19" Trinitron. It's still going strong on one of my other PC's though I've long since switched to LCD's on my primary boxen.
The thin line through the middle vanished for me after about a day. The brain has wonderful abilities to filter some things out. The crispness of the picture and the depth of the colors was fantastic compared to my NEC and CTX CRT's.
I've *made* employees go home and sleep during busy projects. Not only don't I want to risk their health, but why would I want half asleep zombies working for me? Balancing personal and professional life can be delicate these days, but a good manager knows how to keep his people productive and as happy as possible.
I agree that there needs to be something done. I am loathe to have the Government get involved in our lives anymore than they already are, but you may be right that there needs to be some kind of regulation as to how long you can work an employee, be they salaried or not.
So you have 10 times the computing power (to be conservative)but over a third the battery life as your old unit. It's called a tradeoff. You can't compare apples to oranges.
You've got a problem then. I also am a Sprint customer, though I have a Moto Q and not a Treo. I have no limits placed on the size that I can download except for the inherent storage and memory limitations of the device. You are either making it up or Sprint is screwing you royally.
It gives the so called, self appointed 'technologists' something to do other than produce any useful work.
Here is my prediction: By 2020 people will finally get sick of these self appointed prophets and will hook them up to the Matrix to use as power sources.
It's all about cost vs. the cost of downtime. You'll find in business lines such as the financial sector, customers are willing to pay for extremely high availability because time is indeed money. Business lines that have lower costs for downtime have to weigh availability vs. ROI.
"In the meantime those negotiations seem to be hitting 'brick walls', as cellphone operators resist the intrusion of the open web onto their platforms."
This made my BS detector go off. I've been running Opera Mobile (which is very nice) as the alternative to Pocket IE on my Motorola Q for a long time now. There is nothing stopping Mozilla from making a mobile browser. Sounds like they want it *bundled*, which is a different challenge.
Efficiency is just a matter of how much of the input energy is turned into some kind of practical work, in this case spinning a fan. That being said I'd be surprised if they were as high as 70%. Sounds like eco-friendly (note the name of the motherboard) marketing to me. Still, a neat idea.
If this stuff is as strong as aluminum, why aren't we using it to actually build things like cars and buildings?
Because they are just learning how to create and manipulate such materials? Your question is like a bronze age smith who knows that small bits of iron can be found and worked saying "How come we haven't replaced bronze with this stuff yet?" It's an engineering challenge is all. As production techniques improve it will be easier and cheaper to make.
Also, note that it's just the tensile strength that is comparable to aluminum. They said nothing about it's shear strength or rigidity.
Patenting software is akin to patenting a recipe for food. It's all done within the framework of something that's already been invented (cooking or computing).
It's just like shouting 'fire' in a crowded theater. I'm really sick of people trying to use the blanket of the First Amendment to try and justify all sorts of nastiness.
You must be new here. Yes they make a few clumsy attempts at actual editing, but they have never done anything close to real editing. It is what it is.
What surprises me is that people keep expecting something different. There has never been actual 'editing' on Slashdot. That's just how it is. I fail to see why people continue to complain.
They are not editors; they are posters. It's no different than someone aggregating news articles and posting them on all the other 'geek' sites. It was just one of the first to add discussion to the mix and thus became famous.
Do not expect editing here, ever. It will not happen.
I never said he didn't deserve to get paid for it. I said that it's just as bad as ANY OTHER SOFTWARE PATENT. There is nothing novel and innovative about it; it's an incremental growth of games like Bejeweled using the unique features of the iPhone as a control axis. It shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as the word 'patent'.
Please describe the innovation that you speak of. On the surface of this it looks no better than any other bogus software patent. If I am wrong then please educate me. What is so innovative about it, to the point where it is a patentable invention?
That is why I tagged this submission as 'Dumbass'. Let's accept the 'fact' that it was somehow a valuable set of autographs. I would aruge against that, but to send a box in for service that even has some *sentimental* value is just plain dumb.
I'm pretty sure Fermilab found the Higgs on a few occaisions. It's just that procedure calls for a certain number of data points before making such claims. It's still quite possible that Fermilab will announce solid findings on the Higgs before the LHC really even picks up steam. Either way, we should know in the next couple of years.
I for one am hoping they find something totally unexpected with the LHC.
You are a troll and an idiot. Please explain how getting a SWAT team to go to a girl's house because she would not give him phone sex serves any greater purpose?

In a universal health care system, everyone gets equally mediocre care
There, fixed it for you.

Yes I just finally read TFA just now. It *is* just marketing speak.

Right now I am coupled to my computer.
Man, I like my computers a lot, but not enough to go THAT FAR!
It was a joke! YOU must be new here ;-)

He really should have just bought a new one.
That wasn't a pickup line. It was calling someone out.
"Want to see my rare collection of Star Trek memorabillia" would be a more typical pickup line.

I love it when they prove that moderation on Slashdot is way skewed towards Apple. Go fanbois!
