  1. pft, those high school science people are morons. I get my science from the discovery channel. Just the other day I learned that the moon's phases are caused by earth's shadow. Had I believed my high school astronomy class, I'd never have opened my mind to ridiculous TV science...

I like that idea. The problem is that the phone company would just charge their customers more for service to compensate for the fines they have to pay. Then they don't have to fix the problem because the customers are paying the fines for them.

Just fyi, I'm very involved with the local government and they a quite incompetent. Just a couple weeks ago the former mayor was convicted of taking bribes from a developer who wanted to build a bunch of crappy apartments. She ran (and won) on a platform of not allowing additional zoning for multi-family residential. She left her husband, and quit being mayor shortly after so she could marry the developer and work for his company. No one in the government thought that was odd? It took an unlikely person submitting a complaint for the FBI to investigate it. What the hell was the city manager doing? Clearly he wasn't doing his job. No the difficulty in funding. They have no problem getting certificates of obligation without voter approval to pay for their pet projects. So this idea that it takes a long time and it's a hard fight to get voters to approve additional debt is just not accurate. I personally don't believe they should use COs, but they do. Just a couple years ago, they paid for improvements to the municipal golf course with COs. So please, tell me about the tired meme again.

  6. The annoying part is that this happened in 2017 as well in the north Dallas area. It happened in the middle of the night and went on for over an hour. You'd think the other cities in the area would have learned from this vulnerability and fixed the problem. Although that would require local governments to be competent.

  10. Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way, but I don't think company resources should be used to undermine that company. Why should a company be forced to let employees use company infrastructure against itself? I also think it is stupid for an employee to use company resources for these activities. The company can monitor those resources and find out who in the company needs to get assigned the tasks that no one else would want to do. The whole thing seems a bit silly, although I am a simple minded fool so...

I understand you are not really interested in a discussion, but how much money do you think the average citizen would save if the NASA budget were cut? It represents somewhere around 0.5% of the total government budget. If they cut NASA and returned that portion of taxes to the public, it would hardly be noticeable.

  20. I think that's what the "late-stage" negotiations were all about. Amazon asks if it can get the same incentives if it only brings half the promised jobs. If the city says no, it is eliminated.
