I'm a programmer. When the boss comes into my cube I stop what I'm doing so I can ask him what he wants. If he says "oh nothing, just seeing what you're up to" I say "I'm working, fuck off".
Yup, which suggests that discovering it, and understanding it, may give us some control over mass and inertia.. or, to put that in layman's terms: anti-gravity. A nice infinite source of free energy might be in there too. Who knows.
The RIAA will just pay the ISPs for this information instead of demanding it with legally.
Then, maybe in another 5 years or so, someone will sue their ISP for selling the information and the ISP will claim they own it, just look at the Terms Of Service and then the person suing will claim they signed up before those terms came into effect, and then the ISP will point out the part in the terms of service that have always been there that says they may update the terms whenever they feel like it.
Of course, the RIAA will recover this as just another cost in the lawsuit.
Do you honestly are telling us that you'd rather *lose* your housing than open a checking account and put $100 in it? Don't be stupid, RMS would never submit an Ask Slashdot.
I can't believe it's more than 10 miles. IMO, 30-40 miles is the minimum we should be talking about And it's that kind of logic which may be why they don't put a plug on existing vehicles. If you could charge your existing Prius and not need to turn on the gas engine for 10 miles, wouldn't that be better than not being able to charge your Prius and need to turn on the gas engine after 0 miles? Who cares if you would prefer 30 or 40 miles, it's still 10 miles that you're using oil for when you could be using electricity (which most likely comes from cleaner sources or is at least away from the city).
Are you talking about a cell phone? If so, why does your provider have anything to do with it? Personally, I use mp3s as my ring tones, and making a silent ring tone is as simple as making a silent mp3.
Adding a plug to an existing Prius costs about $50 in parts. There are people who will do it for $250 or so. The result is a vehicle that you can run in full electric mode for most of your zipping around town.
Clearly, there is something lacking with getting a plugin Prius to market, but it isn't technical.

QED
What if it is? It's more than you bothered to lookup before posting.

Do some research.
Cause, we've yet to make a machine that doesn't need maintenance.
He needs to learn to throw things away.
to pay for their cell phone bills: then it is an addiction.
Is there anywhere that sells MythTV boxes with nice cases and all this hard work already done?
Sounds like there would be a market for them.
I have a five year old laptop.... what video capture and tv out device would you recommend for it?
I assure you, all planes are fully loaded when they take off.. it's called the frieght industry.
You're kiding right? People would, and do, bend over.
Yeah, I know a lot of kids that do it too. Of course, they're all over the age of 25.

Well there's plenty of other advantages to getting a new phone.
My phone plays mp3s, takes pictures, can access wifi, has an email program and a web browser.
Not to mention the fact that it is smaller, lighter, and has longer battery life than my old phone.
Surely there's something in there that you could use.. you're posting on Slashdot, where's your gadget love? Act like a geek already.
Why don't you just go get a new phone? Ya know, get something modern that does play mp3s.
Outside the US, the Prius has a button on the dash board that makes the vehicle run on electric only.
What do SMS messages have to do with ring tones? Your phone has bluetooth right?
Let's not forget how space based power solutions heat up the atmosphere when you beam it to where it is going to be used.
Nevermind that all this is miniscule and has little to no effect on global warming, you're making heat, stop it!
