I think he started the Boring Company largely because itâ(TM)s currently impossible to live on the surface of Mars due to the radiation issue. By promoting it as a technology thatâ(TM)s useful on earth, he can get government funding for it.

Notice that all of his ventures have applications that make more sense on Mars than they do on Earth. Youâ(TM)ll need transportation on Mars, too, but there ainâ(TM)t no oil and there ainâ(TM)t no gas stations on Mars. Hence, Tesla. By developing these technologies as useful and profitable on Earth, he has access to funding he wouldnâ(TM)t be able to get if he wouldnâ(TM)t be able to get for Mars alone. But while theyâ(TM)d be nice to have on earth, theyâ(TM)re essential for Mars. Elon has a one track mind, make no mistake.

  17. Too bad you don't have the option of preventing Google from collecting and selling your data, tracking you and hitting you with targeted ads. If you think merely boycotting their search engine means you can avoid doing business with them, guess again. The part of Google you can avoid dealing with isn't the part that makes them their money. Your decisions as a consumer have no ability to influence their business conduct, whatsoever.

  22. True enough. The spaceplane concept hasn't had the greatest track record so far. Whether that was because of implementation issues or it's an intrinsic feature of spaceplanes remains to be seen. But I'd note that NASA, who has the most experience with that approach, has abandoned it.
