For the most part I would agree with the exception of NASA. Modern Democratic candidates have never been big on space exploration. The general argument being that, "you could have funded a lot of schools with the money you wasted on getting those moon rocks."

I'm not disputing what they say, but the last time I check there is no such things as a "nonpartisan think tank". If there were that would defeat the purpose of having a think tank or policy institute or propaganda machine as they are formed to get the answer their benefactor wants.

Why not go to the library?

Easy, because many public libraries are becoming nothing more than places where people go to check their e-mail. Of course a nice university library is something completely different, but the small town public library is pretty much giving up on those bulky paper things. Why buy new books when you can offer poor people a place to get on-line (and get a bunch of grants)?

My local library only buys 10% of the books that it bought 8 years ago.

I'll disagree with the parent's comment. In my work place we always picked up a new OS upon release (well, all new Mac and Windows offerings) so that our employees have a grasp on how to navigate around it. After two weeks with only a restricted access account the machine is unusable and this was all on suggested hardware with a copy of Vista Ultimate. So far the only real answers that MS have given me are running a system restore (curiously my problems have killed system restore) or reinstalling Vista (sorry pal, I'm not doing that every two weeks). If MS doesn't get on the ball with Vista and begin patching and offering real support it, Vista will be another Windows ME.

Also, I don't seem to remember ME (the Pinto of MS OSes) having becoming an dominant industry standard.
