The press release says that he will be the Executive Producer, not Director, so effectively he has only agreed to place his rubber stamper on the film and I'm sure he is contractually obligated to say that it is a magnificent film no matter what MGM/New Line have made. I can only imagine that New Line must have had him legally nailed to the wall when "settling" over the previous films). Sadly, this means there is nothing to keep these movies from being directed by committee. Unless he directs them I expect nothing to crap.
"Similarly, Judge Kimball appears to have discounted then-Novell-chief-negotiator Chatlos's credibility because, as the judge noted, Chatlos's wife currently works for SCO. Okay, I can see why you might reach that (rather cynical) conclusion -- but only if you're a juror."
Cynical? WTF? Letting that slide would have been an endorsement of collusion.
I have to disagree with the single as the only good song argument.
I've noticed that it seems to go two ways. Either the single is the best song on the album (ie. one hit wonder) or the single is the most watered-down, generic, made-for-radio, middle of the road song on the album produced to appeal only to a specific demographic other than the musician's core audience (ie. Nashville Effect). Remember those last 4 singles from Modest Mouse after their "major label debut"? Yeah, neither do I.
I can deal with the first, but the second scenario is almost immoral. Why kill good music that people will enjoy for years for the sake of "jumping up the charts" for a week?
I don't see the RIAA keeling over any time soon, instead I imagine it shrivel up into something like one of those debt collection agencies out of Buffalo NY. It will act as a "free agent" for (mostly fake or bought out) music publishers and survive on constant lawsuits on those who will be only more than happy to pay $800 to keep from getting sued for $15K.
Never underestimate the tenacity of unemployed lawyers.
"How is that port of whatever those dorks from Bellevue sent us going?"
"Well, we've gotten it to load and we even played through the game once."
"Yeah, whatever, excellent, I assume you will have finished play testing by noon. After that slap another Medal of Honor together, Bob, VP of Interior Design thinks it should be modeled after Hogan's Heroes and personally, I think any man who drives a Miata; well he just has fine taste. Oh, and before I forget, we fired everyone on your team. We know you can handle it or..... Well you know what I mean."
Maybe I'm having some problems, but I seem to recall Sony having a similar patent with the PSP. There were even plans for a headset and voice recognition, it was just an infrastructure -cough**no-way-to-get-people-to-pay-a-monthly-charge-to-use-their-PSP**cough problem.
Is DX 10 really a pro? With all of the hardware issues and lack of support, so far it has been my reason for avoiding it (along with the feeling that MS wants to steer gamers away from playing games on their PCs in favor on the 360). Outside of better XNGA support what do I get out of it?
I don't quite get why this is getting so much hype. Kids use their Facebook for (web) mail and their cellphones for instant messaging. So what.
I can understand the younger generation want to use text messages and their Facebook/Xanga/Whatever, it is easy and quick, but when you enter the work place your boss isn't going to ask for a copy of that text message you sent to Richard in accounting. But then you get this marketing mindset where if something isn't showing potential growth it is dead where instead it is just evolving (for the less technically inclined).
I do not understand why most geeks just don't get this.
The enemy isn't Capitalism. On its own Capitalism is a fair, fine enough thing. You have a service or a product that you sell for a price based on scarcity. Instead the enemy is Capitalism's (demented) cousin, Corporatism where I somehow circumvent the economic process; say by having laws passed to put you out of business or FUD campaigns or creating a scenario where I manipulate scarcity, as Edison did Tesla.
I couldn't agree more. Considering that Adobe and MS rule the roost in the area of document formats it could be nothing more than support for something like Microsoft Document Imaging Format.
When I received a comment from a friend asking me about what movies I enjoy. After clicking on the post it immediately brought up an ad. I though someone "hacked" into his account.
All I can say is that this is pretty disheartening and it sets a very bad precedent. What next, my ISP loaning out my e-mail to spammers for a cut?
-er nothing but crap, though I'm sure it will leave me with an empty feeling.

Stop it! Some decision maker may not understand the concept of sarcasm.
We are going to have to do a lot of explaining to Gharglax when he hears all of those old Amos and Andy episodes.
After the Bush administration, this guy is totally electable.
Yet it always seems to begin in a tavern.
Ahh but that is half the point. This way Apple Customers can get a solution that has Apple's seal of approval.
I was giving his argument a pass until:

I'll just wait for Windows 7.
How can this list leave out Head-On (a product we can only assume to be a homeopathic cure for headaches).
Good point, but it is also the desired benefit. These services allow them to filter people out.

So the old 2 horny boys and a chemistry set scenario can finally come to pass.
Yep, nuclear prolifiration, thats really something to be proud of.

Shouldn't it be, "Billy makes a copy of your ball", not steals?
Well, at least we know what employer Mr. Leahy and Mr. Cornyn really work for.
Couldn't I just stick that Ghost for Linux CD I burned last year in before I go to bed and get the same results?
I really don't get why the rail car is on this list. This idea is far from new as HiRail has been making them since the 70s.
