Of course, that is the point. It's been said that sales are NOT really affected by this kind of piracy. They are affected by high/low price ONLY. Everybody could scan, let's say, newspapers and give them across the network. but they don't because it's just NOT worth it. The same goes for books and magazines. Why can't the ebooks fall to the same category? Because they are so damn expensive considering their cost to manufacture. (OR reproduce!)
You are right about wine. Not about Lindows. Lindows IS targeting me as a consumer. And my point is that at this point they have nothing to offer me. That is,nothing more than (let's say) RedHat. Linux for desktop is here, has been here for at least a year ( at least for me and my users) and it's very good actually. And as i said i really admire the work done in the wine project. I just feel they are heading the wrong way, taking valuable resources with them.
Oh, they did the right thing by NOT using windows software. I just don't understand why they CHARGE so much. I mean, even is it's cheaper than windows, it's the most expensive distro out there since all others are free. Even with all the advertising, i fear this is still a lost cause.
Linux can do all that stuff for about a year now. I don't understand. Even if wine could run MS apps, really, who cares anymore? Just for the games? Don't get me wrong, wine is a wonderfull piece of software, but to ME it's useless (at last).
Excellent idea.. something like the norton thing ( there are updates available do you want to download them?). Yes, updates may break things, but if you know what you are doing you don't need this system anyway. Users will surely appreciate it, especially if they are not bothered with details and everything can be done in the backround.
With one move apple is into the server business as well as desktop. And linux being so popular, unix users/administrators are easier to find these days.
It was just a matter of timing..
I think it would be a good time to give a PC version of OS X, taking after all these years Bill Gates' advice. But i remember microsoft "helped" apple some years back , no ?
yes, i believe you are correct. And, i recall the same idea in another story where scrooge finds a planet made of gold and buys it for a handfull of dirt:))
what kind of agreement is an End User agreement? don't you need 2 sides to agree ?
why not force the companies to accept responsibility for their software? what if i lose important work because of bad software? Why shouldn't i be able to see the specs (not the features) of the software i buy ?
is Scientific Applications for Linux (SAL), the one i use is in greece http://sal.duth.gr, but there are mirrors around the world.
I think the official site is at http://sal.kachinatech.com/ .
You can't control opensource development , people will built what they need, if a lot of effort is given to desktop , then desktop tools are needed , who cares why..
You see, open source works best for what most people need.. and when more people see a potential , more people will work with it.. and so on..
Well, i really believe that people can use linux.. and many actually do it..
Don't you wonder why ?
Maybe they think that it's a better choice, right ?
My point is that even if you don't know how to use it , it's there.. if you decide to learn.
Maybe someday it will be easier for the average - no so bright user. In my opinion it's very easy as it is..
IBM has been going down since 198something when compaq entered the pc market.. but it's still here . It has software, hardware and propably the best R&D department in the area of computers..
IBM will stay . Sun will stay..
for some software company lately trying hardware market i don't know..

Nobody noticed?
is that a new record ?
Maybe an option in the next mozilla version "Complain about this page" might help.
but that's propably what happened to the police, no?

Can't apple sell pc hardware as well?
They only need a box, a motherboard, and a firewire card. The rest is the same, more or less.
And if their hardware is better (and it is , judging from my powerbook) they will still have a market there.
With one move apple is into the server business as well as desktop. And linux being so popular, unix users/administrators are easier to find these days. ..
It was just a matter of timing

Success indeed, but the point is that space won't be really explored untill it becomes profitable.
:)
If only those old Scrooge McDuck stories about moons made of gold were true
what kind of agreement is an End User agreement? don't you need 2 sides to agree ?
.. but how ?
why not force the companies to accept responsibility for their software? what if i lose important work because of bad software? Why shouldn't i be able to see the specs (not the features) of the software i buy ?
i mean , ok it does the job
Using X-windows, you will only need one for all employees .
is Scientific Applications for Linux (SAL), the one i use is in greece http://sal.duth.gr, but there are mirrors around the world.
..
I think the official site is at http://sal.kachinatech.com/ .
many applications there , not all free though
i have always considered coding an art, mainly because of the demo scene. But it's the result that counts not the tools used ..
and what about the scenario?
You can't control opensource development , people will built what they need, if a lot of effort is given to desktop , then desktop tools are needed , who cares why ..

how about giving one company all your data and the others .. practically nothing ?
would that be selective ?
if u want to save all that typing , why not keep that information at YOUR computer ?
no , silly me , you have to give it to microsoft.
Well, i really believe that people can use linux.. and many actually do it ..
.. if you decide to learn.
..
.. i'm a unix user.
Don't you wonder why ?
Maybe they think that it's a better choice, right ?

Maybe someday it will be easier for the average - no so bright user. In my opinion it's very easy as it is
and i am not a power user
How am i going to like it, if i don't buy it ?
huh ?
IBM has been going down since 198something when compaq entered the pc market .. but it's still here . ..

well propably just a few people did it, they can't have 500 people on this (unless they really used word for this )..
/me thinks ....
but the people are not to blame .
if they are microsoft employees, "mis-interpreting orders" they should be fired (and we can ask them their opinion later).
but the company is still the one to blame.
>Actually, the more I think about it, for all we
>know, it is actually a Linux supporter who is
>trying to discredit any valid grass-roots
>campaign that has sprung up for Microsoft.
indeeeeed !!! only they did say they are "responding to the lobbying efforts of competitors" .
the facts are all here,
Because this is not a bad thing at all. i wish it was like this since windows95. and yes i'm a linux guy.
