    I have no music in my shared directory I share /var/cache/apt/archives, currently 200 MB in 350 pieces of open source software. Good luck nailing me on that.

    Our tech person actually said that don't care what we do as long as they don't get any letters about us from the RIAA/MPAA attack dogs. So I got the file sharing type stuff running but it is restricted to the college's domain.

    Someone here at MTU runs a similar thing, I have yet to hear of s/he getting in trouble.

    I scanned the ResNet here for NFS servers and haven't gotten in trouble either.

    It doesn't stop lynx :) although with images turned off in Mozilla, it will crash Mozilla.

    You can also say that on the other end of the deal. Many ISPs limit their customers by bandwidth usage and/or time spent online. Loading those ads uses bandwidth and wastes time. Personally I noticed a 10% drop in bandwidth usage after disabling flash, java, pop-ups, and using the image controls in mozilla.

    (this could be an interesting debate...)
