Actually come to think of it, I really am happy that this is happening, and here are three reasons why.
1) Microsoft
2) Real
3) AOL (Read the owners of Nulsoft)
This means that they will have to foot the bill for every copy of an mp3 player that they have ever bundled or sold or let you download for free and put crap icons on my desktop. Granted $0.75 is not a lot, but it sure adds up. Most of the geeks that use an alternative OS will (if they already aren't) start using Ogg/Vorbis and the switch over will be painless. For once a patent hurts the companies that I really hate and doesnt' affect me. I can just use Ogg, I like it better. Good news for a Tuesday if you ask me.
I'm using DHCP now, with dyndns. Little pain in the butt, but not bad. Stupid rule if you ask me though. If someone want's a static give it to them, 99.9999999% of the population doesn't know the difference, so you're not gonna run out.
If they do, the big boys will soon cease to offer broadband. No one will want it, as soon as I can get off it I will. Hopefully consumers (especially US consumers) will pull their heads out and realize that it is they who have the final say in what happens to a company. If you stop buying CD's as I have the RIAA will eventually listen. If you stop using ATTBI and switch all of the phone accounts you can off of their service they will listen. The beauty of capatilism is that we as consumers have the power to change things, the only reason companies are so big and powerful (which is a REALLY REALLY bad thing IMHO) is that we have allowed them to become that way. Homo Depot is the size it is because people stopped supporting the little independant hardware store. I for one prefer small independant hardware stores, a) because you get help, can ususally talk to a nice helpfull person, b) no hour long lines, and c) you are directly supporting your community instead of supporting a huge multi-national. The same goes for ISP's the little ISPs are worried about their customers, not about a corporate image and shareholders, so they will go out of their way to protect you as their customer.
ATTBI blocked my account for having a set up my BSD box with a static IP (it took them over a year to notice, and COX never cared), I got the service reinstated, told them that I was switching off of their service, we are in the process of changing my wifes cell phone service from ATT and I had the choice here at work about a long distance carrier recently and I specifically chose not to go with ATT. If we all did this companies like ATT and conglomerates like the RIAA and the MPAA will have to listen, after all they are only companies and the only power that they have is the power that we as consumers give them. Capatalism works, but we have to be the police, not the government.
nVidia Quadro4 400 NVS, ironically it's a PCI card (at least the one from PNY is) but at least it frees up 3 slots. My ideal setup is a nVidia Quadro4 950 running dual hean on the AGP and a 400 NVS supporting the other 6 panels. DVI of course.
I agree, although any good impressions of him I had were thourougly destroyed, along with any respect I had, when I mistakenly watched D.A.R.Y.L. again on Disney;) My condolences Will. Doh...

"This is the same model the astronauts used when they faked the Apollo moon landing. Yeah they broadcast around the earth from a sound stage in San Bernadino California, it worked for them so it shouldn't give us too many problems."
I've got news for you, the corporate world is a complete and utter sham. There is no semblance of reality or professionalism what so ever any more. I work there, I see it everyday. Who cares about the corporate world, it is fraut with corruption, and it really is up to the little guy to make this whole thing work. The officers of companies that everyone looks to are really just figure heads who lie, cheat, and steal from us, the real muscle is in the little guy that needs to get his job done well and cheaply. If your company has a mandate that it will only allow M$ software, install FreeBSD (or Linux) anyways, then when everyone is down because of ILoveYou, Nimda, or Code Red, and you are still working away tell them why. Be smarter than the rest and you will be heard eventually. Screw the managers, the execs, and especially sales and marketing, be better and you will win. I really don't give a flying pigs shaved shiny ass what the corporate world thinks about Open source software, it works, period, and if they don't realize that because they are too busy stuffing their golden parachutes they will eventually fail, and you will win. Fight the good fight on whatever front there is. Playing the M$ game is just like the Brits lining up to be shot in the revolutionary war. It's a new battle field, kill or be killed. Just my $0.02.
Actually to me that is an argument for religion. Religionists are not the ones that are constantly twisting things too support a half baked theory or moralistic system. If you look at it, the fundamental belief system of christianity has been pretty much the same for the last 2000 years. Science and politics are the ones that has been all over the place.
I would definately support a cause like this. A new nation, formed by geeks, open source geeks for that matter. I think we should look at Madagascar. It's close enough to Europe, and Africa, and it has the size to support a substantial population. I think the climate is pretty nice too. A one time citizenship fee of 100K US or so (this is less than the cost of a home for most people)would help go to pay whomever we bought it from. Once there we could start setting up a government, infrastructure and an economy. The whole process would take some time, but with enough support I really think this could be done.

You spend way too much time on/. and IRC when the muscle memory in your fingers types out fucking as the default word.
Actually if we had a flat tax and full disclosure laws none of this would have ever happened. Spare me your liberalistic drivel. Go to http://www.lp.org and learn something.
Britney, the BS boys, and nSync have already been doing this for years. How else can they come up with that crap they call music. The language they use is C# though, not Pascal.

6 outlet power strip + 6 modems + 1 BSD box + 6 NIC's == DS3?
Yeah, but if you ever get a new lease you will have to repoint your record, and are stuck with 24 hours downtime.

I dont like to let the putrid slime that is Ja*a come off of my toung or be typed by my fingers if I can help it.
Just an observation, but it seems like a lot of Ja*a programmers feel this way. Not sure why.
That text is really sharp. It's amazing how the pale whiteness of her skin makes for a really good projection surface.

If you have MSN instant messenger with the emoticons on, type it in a see what you get.
Is the phrase "Going Forward" the 21st century equivalent of the telegraph statement "STOP"?
How do you feel about fly swatters, or ant spray? They are living beings too, no one seems to ever have a problem with pest control AFAIK. Hypocrites.
Ok, who stole code from who?
