The manufacturers take a standard USB cable and change the shape of the connector so they can charge you 40 bucks for it. The service providers charge 5 bucks so I can get an app to access my email and make use of my 15/month data plan. They both just nickel and dime the crap out of customers and provide shit features at that.
I am all for an open platform and I will buy one of those phones in 2years.
The changes look cosmetic to me. Someone probably rewrote it and toned it down a bit to cater it to people with short attention spans. Intelligent people who follow the news know that Obama is by far the lesser of two evils and will vote for him. Idiots that vote for abortion or other religiously biased stances will vote for McCain and his new earth creationist running mate. However they may get a few more votes from people who choose a candidate at the last minute as they watch the debates and read up on them. For this purpose it makes sense to tone down some of the details in order to address the key issues and how he stands.
Saying "I support net neutrality" vs, I support Net neutrality and here is a paragraph supporting my stance, hardly indicates that he no longer supports it.
I hate to nitpick because I am sure they are referring to load voltage or some equivalent voltage, but superconductors by definition carry current at ZERO voltage otherwise they would not be superconducting now would they. Ok they still could have some supercurrent for non zero voltages.
I find it so sad that this article gets posted on Slashdot with a paragraph giving the movie credit as if it were an actual documentary and not what it is, propaganda. It took another poster to add that in. Then looking at the comments I am saddened by the lack of critical thought put into them. People think Ben Stein produced this film to get the word out. Ah,,, no. It was produced by some guy Mathis(?) who hired Ben to be the narrator/host.
Then there is the people who think that there are other theories that explain the ever changing diversity of life on this planet besides the one presented by Darwin over 150 years ago and modified and expanded by countless thousands of biologists with mountains of evidence since then. There are no other theories. Further intelligent design is creationism as written in the bible/ old testament. This movie is just old testament vs science and anyone who has spent any time with improving themselves through education should be appalled that such a movie would be put out there and that many people would fall victim to it in the sense that they think it has any merit at all. If you are such a person all I can say is that you can read up on the history of this film, study evolution, try to find a so called alternative theory that does not come from the bible, and decide for yourself.
I see no problem in comparing Apple fanatics to religious zealots who overreact to any thing that supports the other side. Both behavioral phenomena are virtually identical when you strip away the objects of devotion. Just because one can lead to violence it does not mean that the comparison is not valid. He did not say Apple people are as crazy as suicide bombers, but he said the two types of tribes share the same reason for existing and not seeing eye to eye in an evolutionary psychological sense. Its also akin to mob psychology.
I for one agree with him. And I think anyone who doesn't see the similarities in systems like this will never fully understand people and culture. Does it not make sense that any cultural phenomena can be observed on different scales and in unobviously analogous situations? That's all he is saying here.
And I will repeat myself a little differently. He did not compare a 60 year conflict to the Apple vs PC argument, just the underlying psychology of picking a side( regardless of reason), sticking with it, and staunchly defending it.
I wouldn't call them nanowires. 0.85 um is hardly nano. But I suppose I am biased because I work with actual nanowires. This is just a case of the U of I trying to patent something and turn a profit from it. It is a disturbing trend that is happening in our universities. Universities create these Technology transfer divisions, spend millions on staff, etc, charge us poor research groups higher overhead to pay for it, and then try to turn a profit by patenting our results. It is not profitable for the university and it makes research even harder to do because it steals a good percentage off the tops of our rapidly dwindling, funds.
That macbooks (pro/non) do not have high res screens available for 15 inch? It is annoying to browse websites with 900 lines of vertical resolution. Also the single mouse button on the unit makes it harder to use the thing away from a desk and that external mouse.
http://bluebuddies.com/Smurfs_ColecoVision_Smurf_R escue_In_Gargamel_Castle.htm Smurfs on colecovision was a sidescroller simmilar to SMB and one could argue that the game was just Pitfall with structured levels. SMB was just a much more varied platformer that took the up down style of DK and DKJr and combined it with side scrolling.
Don't get me wrong it was the greatest thing ever at the time, but it was something that used bits and pieces of games already out there. The thing it changed was the level design, intuitive and varied controls, fun powerups and the excellent music.
NO. It doesn't have component outputs and thus it is not even capable of 480P. The xbox can output higher resolutions but can only really decode 480p. The interface is a bit odd with a controller, but you get used to it really fast. The only weird parts are the advanced menu features like syncing audio and subtitles. I doubt any CE device even has these super useful features.
Many of the posters have clearly not read this article. Further, the last time this was posted it was stated that this 5000 was a monthly limit. If someone is generating over 60K a year in ebay sales they are certainly running a business and should be taxed like everyone else
Yeah right. People pirate because they are cheap. They are not going to blow an extra 500-1000+ bucks on a MAC because they cannot pirate Windows. And there are plenty of people that would use Linux if it were user friendly and capable of running the software everyone else uses. Increasing that demand is not going to make it happen because there is no money to be made in it.
Well I am a physicist, but this is not my field of expertise. A quick glance at the article you posted reveals that it has to do with decoherence in ion trap quantum computers. Whatever this device is actually doing, it is made from some kind of superconducting devices. Superconductors are macroscopic quantum systems and hence are very different from single atoms. I'd like to read a bit more on this device before I speculate, because I am not even sure what the qbits are.
Of course it is Apple's fault.

Vista - iPod Killer?
·
· Score: 3, Interesting
Vista has been in its finished form for months. There is no excuse for Apple not having iTunes ready. They are clearly just being coy here so they can maybe sell a few systems or something. On a side note. I have been using XP x64 since the start of last year. Apple released a version of quicktime that was broken on that system and since they bundled it with iTunes it actually broke that as well and they removed any link to the older working version. I updated to that and lost the ability to use my iPod and any software that used quicktime. It was yet another case of Apple failing to test their products thoroughly.
I'm not sure if they use labels outside of gmail, but even so it is their interface and they should be able to decide what names they give to the features. I do think that in gmail labels are different than tags in the sense that only you apply them and that they are done by rules you create. Regular tags are usually added by people in the online community.
Complete biased nonsense. Comparing current osx to a win9x machine so you can spread your fanboyism. Apple is not more reliable and it is more expensive. All your post ammounts to is the typical crap I have to read on this site that claims Apple is the second coming or something.
Look if you like the UI and think that it is worth the extra money that is fine. But please don't make up BS to back your decision to be an Apple customer. Whether you use Apple, MS, or Nix you are using software to do the things you want/need to do. It's all the same and is just a matter of preference. Apple does not offer higher quality/ more stable hardware and the stability of the OS is primarily due to the lack of security features in XP, an OS released in mid 2001. If you keep your XP machine up to date and are careful, it is solid and will run applications that will get you the same end result as that of a Mac.
Only someone that is uninformed will claim anything different. Unfortunately most Mac people are uninformed and spew out similar nonsense. Seriously cut the elitist Bs and stick to the truth. You use a Mac because you are used to it and prefer it's UI and the UI of the software written for it over the other available options. You don't need to bash the alternatives to strengthen the validity of your own opinion based choice.
But since when is anything Apple a "geek's toy." Apple forces you to buy specific, overpriced hardware to run their software, they lock you to an iPod if you wasted a significant amount of money on iTunes songs/videos, so it is only natural to sell you some overpriced "phone" and force you to pay out of your ass to get it to do the things you want.
Phones in general are a joke nowadays. Paying extra for text! C'mon phone companies should be paying you to text instead of calling. I am actually getting a new phone today. The experience should be interesting
Of course mammals require an atmosphere while in the womb, the mothers must respirate. Besides that physics, ie liquid/vapor/vacuum/solid equilibrium all but requires an atmosphere to have any chance at sustaining life. Stable temperature is not possible in a vacuum unless it is constantly being illuminated by a sun, ie if the planet does not rotate. In that case though the hot side of the planet would be very inhospitable to weak organic molecules. Sure you could argue that an ice world with very little atmosphere could harbor life in some deep buried ocean but they would need to have some energetic process such as volcanism or some sustainable energetic process from which to exploit. But apart from some special case of buried oases, life needs an atmosphere if it is going to be composed of small molecules, many of which would simply evaporate in a vacuum. Perhaps though life could evolve on a planet with an atmosphere and then evolve to survive without one as a planet slowly lost it's atmosphere, but that again seems unlikely.
Those numbers are the max systems that were available on ebay not the total sold. At one point there were 26000 Wiis and approximately 50 wiis were selling each minute, while more auctions were being listed.
As funny as this post is, I actually hope it is true seriously. FO3 was much more engrossing than Oblivion was regardless of their similarities.
bring it on

If there is any truth to the rumor I would guess it would be 250 Gbits/month.

I usually interpret my girlfriend's signals to mean she is not interested in having sex. Could I just be mistaken here?

Exactly I was going to mention this. The vacuum systems I work with always "reek" of metal when they are vented and opened up.

Excellent first post for this topic. Couldn't have said it better myself.

These reasons alone keep me from ever buying one.
Too bad there is no channel for any physical science. This is Biology/medicineTV not science TV
I am not sure what an electrical field is. I know what a magnetic filed and an electric field are must be some new scientifical thing. :)
