Even better is reading their rulings. When you read them, it's like you're reading an eloquent novel. I've never read one of their rulings and thought "man this is stupid".

Even if you disagree with them, they do a great job of asking tough questions and addressing tough issues that guide our country as a whole. Their decisions are well laid out and it's really great to read dissenting opinions. Those are always the most fun.

Use Xbox Media Center. It lets you aggregate all of the content from all over your LAN using SMB and view it on your tv. You can even view it in HD if you have the advanced HD pack for your tv and your TV supports HD.

This is what I do, and I download all of the CSI HD rips and other HD rips and watch them in pefect hd progressive scan on my 97" projected image.

Needless to say, DVDs look perfect from it too. I can't imagine having an xbox without modding it and using xbox media center. I have one for the livingroom and one for my small 27" in my bedroom, all on the lan, all having the same content available to them.

My dvr can record two shows while I watch a third in HD from the digital channels. I can only do that with myth if I have 2 cable boxes + ir blasters + hd cards + a lot of freaking work.

Believe me, the cable co dvr is definitely worth it, since it only costs 6 dollars a month and works exactly as advertised. I've heard horror stories with cable/satellite dvr's(with the exception of directivo), but this one is worth its weight in some precious metal.

Using a DVR has totally been a life-changing experience. I don't mean that in a sarcastic way or anything, it really has improved my life. I no longer have to choose between doing something I want to do and watching something I want to watch. I can always do both.

It's really amazing how we(Americans) take broadband for granted now. I don't see how I could go back to using dialup; it would seem like cruel and unusual punishment. Yet, to these people, many of whom are poor, just having a computer or internet access would be a boon.

Let alone only having 15 hours a month online! Note, the article says "allowing 15 hours"; I'm assumin that means per month. I download GIGS of stuff every day, and my computers are online 24/7/36[56]. Half an hour a day wouldn't even make me wake up in the morning.

  10. biometrics on ID Theft Made Easy · · Score: 2, Insightful

I'll make the obligatory comment: Biometrics! The sooner the price comes down on these and the reliability goes up, they will be much better than passwords. I think today, two factor authentication is enough of a hurdle.

I know fingerprints can be foiled with rubber or BREATHING, but if you combine that with voice print or retinal scan, it should be pretty secure, even today. Add in facial recognition, and you've got a secure environment.

All authentication mechanisms are just hurdles. You have to hope your hurdles are high enough to obstruct the level of cracker that is after your information.

I have convinced people at work that making people change their passwords every month totally backfires; it causes utter INsecurity when the people can't remember the password because they have to change it all the time. They end up putting it on post-it notes in drawers next to the desk. I understand the motive, to increase the time it takes to brute-force the password, but when the users are going to do this in reaction to this because they have so many to remember, then you have zero security.

In short, we NEED biometrics, and we need them widely available and cheap.

Pretend that microsoft hadn't released WiX, and it stayed as time called it, insignificant. No one would have bothered with it except MCP's and others, and they would have used WinInstall LE or whatever.

But because microsoft released it free and OSS, an enormous buzz has been generated and an enormous amount of good will as well.

With that said, Sony has done a horrible job of mismarketing/undermarketing. Almost none of my non-nerd friends even know what a PSP is. It's really sad. I've seen maybe one commercial total for it.

They need to pimp it as the awesome media machine it is. I love mine, and I have Ridge Racer, Wipeout Pure, and Twisted Metal: Head-On.

Playing on the actual internet from a handheld via WiFi in Twisted Metal is a truly awesome experience. Hopefully Sony will market it, but I guarantee you, this thing will be marketed by word of mouth/view of eye. The "value pack" includes "non-interactive demos". You can read that as "videos of people playing the game". When was the last time you got a console that included a game? I know my last time was the original NES, when I got Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt.

It's not $300+, it's $249. The normal value pack will not include Spiderman 2; only the first million units will. It is indeed a novelty, and the novelty is intended to gain early adopters, like me.

It's not more expensive, or if it is, not by much. The $249 price (at which, I've pre-ordered 3 units) is the "value pack" including spiderman 2 movie, headphones, case, and a 32MB memory stick duo.

The $199 price is the PSP only. That will also be offered later in the US, but Sony found that in Japan, the value pack was far outselling the version that was roughly equivalent to $199.

Even if it was marginally more expensive compared to the japanese value pack, that could easily be explained by the declining dollar.

Regardless of its previous shortcomings, I can't wait to get mine and play wirelessly with friends in Wipeout and Ridge Racers, and hopefully shortly after launch, Burnout.
