    Umm they were only 'solved' if you play your DVDs through a computer. For the 95% of people who play DVDs with set-top DVD players the UOP problem has utterly failed to be solved.

    Does this guy really think that porn was the deciding factor in the demise of Betamax?

    Looking at my video collection, and considering every VHS or Beta tape I have ever rented, exactly 0% has been of a pornographic nature. Counting all my family and friends I would estimate about 1% of all rentals might be pornographic.

    If what this guy's saying is true, where do all these filthy perverts come from, and why do they seem to have so much money?

    Not having a user-replaceable battery is an absolute show-stopper for me. Li-Ion batteries fail, it's a fact of life. I would have thought that Apple would have learned from the iPod nano but apparently not.

    Additionally scrolling light text on a dark background shows up the worst in LCD refresh times if you're unfortunate enough to have an "8ms" or higher claimed pixel response rate. Try smooth-scrolling www.hackaday.com to see what I mean.

    How does causing your LCD screen to use more power help save power? LCD screens produce black by twisting LCD molecules to *block* the white light from behind. AFAIK their most energy-efficient mode is white, unless you turn the backlight off.

    Absolutely. In addition to the tactile feedback thing, when you have a control that might be needed at any time you really want to always know where it is. Having it buried in a level of menus is definitely not intuitive (sorry if I just abused that word) or convenient.

    Or at least an infinitely-turnable rotary switch that acts exactly as a potentiometer like many stereos with remote-controls have.

    The Wii's success has completely to do with the remote.

    I disagree. I still think is has more to do with the Wii being the cheapest major games console of all time, when adjusted for inflation.

    Id est, the most affordable major games console of all time. Don't underestimate the power of price when Mr Bluecollar stands at the game console wall at the local superstore.

    For live action content (which another poster has pointed out is usually different from video game content) my eye perceives motion at around 10 fps, but isn't fooled into seeing fully smooth motion until about 45 fps. For non-blurred video games it's closer to 90 fps.

    Of course any game with a decent shader should be using motion blur anyway these days.
