Katz was asking for reasons to vote.
People that don't want to vote quite often don't want to vote because they think they're locked into the two major parties.
Nader represents an alternative to that, thus a way to vote without supporting someone you don't want to elect.
So does Harry Browne (Libertarian).
Jerry Garcia, being dead, does not.

Is "Hackers", "Geeks", and "Ender's Game".
I'm glad to see that they've now all been reviewed by Slashdot.
If anybody is left that hasn't read all three, go now to the library/bookstore and get them and read them now and don't stop for food/sleep/classes/whatever.
Why are you still here?! GO!
....like how to survive on nothing but cashew halves, Chinese takeout and Dew. And how to code until 3 AM and still wake up bt 8:00 the next morning....
Who does this surprise? I seem to remember some plan earlier for Intel to make the Pentium II require all new cards, cables, hard drives, everything.
Of course, it never happened....
Best Linux book I ever bought was "Running Linux" published by O'Reilly. Really good book, and even if it's getting old and sorta outdated (it's pre-KDE) it's still useful for knowing what all the entires in all the little config files mean.
>> I have yet to see any strong advocacy movement on slashdot to allow children of all ages to see XXX porno freely. It's about the same issue. It's NOT the same issue. There is a geat difference between XXX porno and computer games. Every society has taboos, porn is a very popular one. What the uproar here is about is classing the games that we play (I say we, seems most Geeks (tm) play computer games) with pornography.
I recently bought an Athlon 700 and a Shuttle AI61 motherboard. I was using SuSE 6.2 at the time, with kernel 2.2.10. It refused to even load the kernel right, wouldn't even come close to booting. I got SuSE 6.4 with the 2.2.14 kernel and it has worked fine ever since.
A 'classic' edition of F451 I found once....

It was at a book show, but sadly, far too expensive for me to buy. It had a brass cover and was printed on asbestos cloth pages.
What's this about "Too bad the implications of her idea weren't discovered until after the patent lapsed," or something to that effect? I thought we were all against patents here?
The Wii does. I don't know if it sends a signal to the TV, but you can set the console to not play games above a certain rating.
35-40 cents is high?
I remember when discs were selling for more like $5.

Yes, that's right, I'm patenting Slashdot. Or, better yet,

I'll patent Slashdot green. Muhahahahaaaa!

I know this. It was a joke. A pun. An attempt to bring a little humor into our otherwise bleak and depressing lives.
Shouldn't a story entitled "Screenshots of Qt Designer" have a bunch of pictures of the people who wrote Qt? At least, that's what I was expecting....
