    The Corporate Founders page of ZNYX says that Alan Deikman "wrote a programmer's book on Unix". If indeed he plays some ill part in this tragedy, shame on you Alan!

    Buy.com has it for $16.38 (shipping included). Wal-mart.com has it for $17.98. All are cheaper than bn.com $20.80. Spend the four dollar differential on something nice!

    The articles say the organizer is losing money. This may not have much to do with Comdex as it may have to do with the inefficiencies at the company of the organizer of Comdex.

    And furthermore, if Comdex is such a great event, then I am confident that other organizers will swoop in to save Comdex or replace it with a tech fair that is just as potent. (i.e. Supply and Demand - If the deman for comdex is there, someone will supply it)

    In related news, Bill Gates is visiting India and gave $100 million to fight AIDS in India. Although I geniuinely believe Bill Gates to be a humane person (really), _perhaps_ this action has something to do with leveraging Microsoft position in the Indian government?

    Do you know how many voting locations there are? I live in Texas, and we can't just vote anywehre (except in early elections), we have to vote at a designated location in our precint.

    It would be above and beyond Slashdot's means to gather this information for Texas, let alone the whole United States. The Secretary of State website for each state has accurate information that you can refer to if you desperately wanted that information.

    Or at least I think so. Had the same symptoms (frequent, random reboots) using an Abit KA-7. Cost me $300 to get it replaced, because at the time I had no idea what was wrong with my computer.

    Lo and behold, when I get my motherboard back, I see a bunch of capacitors were leaking.

    The idea that living close to power lines causes cancer or other disease is a _myth_. There is no truth to it. Unfortunately, this myth has caused property values to needlessly fall at the expense of a few select rabble rousers who enrich themselves by penning best-selling books promoting such lies.

    The reporters were rather boring and the news coverage the same.

    In all fairness, I don't think the news reports on 9/11 should have been writted to be more exciting. They favored information over entertainment. As for the repetition, some of it was necessary. With millions upon millions tuning into their television sets every hour, the news organizations probably felt such repeptition necessary to inform their whole audience.

    IIRC (IANAD/IANAO and any other acronyms) that refers to PRK surgery. Trauma to the head, such as using your head to bounce a soccer ball, could leave you blind.

    Lasik has replaced PRK, but an eye doctor close to me told me to stay away from it. He said that they still don't know the long term effects of Lasik. It's a watch, wait, and pray-that-complications-don't-arise approach.

    It's refreshing to see someone standing up for their beliefs.

    Yes, but does standing up for one's beliefs justify that belief? There are other ways to stand up for one's belief, and quitting a job is quite extreme.

    It is ludicrous to quit one's job just because they and their employers don't see eyeball to eyeball - yet, if he felt he could better promote his vision in an environment outside of RedHat, well, more power to him!

    I am sure that HP is only listening to its field. HP is out to make money (surprise!), and if they don't listen to their customers and give them what they want (even if it is something "horrible" like .Net) then other companies will be more than happy to replace HP's business.

    I am sure that ICANN critics would be able to find something wrong with every single one of the groups vying for the .org TLD. Some critics seem to demand nothing short of ICANN's head on a silver platter...

    If companies can't get the inexpensive workers to come to them, then they will go the inexpensive workers. Basically, such companies will just open facilities in a foreign country full of relatively inexpensive labor.

    Next time you go to a DVD store, have a look at the different plastic wrappings. You'll see what I mean.

    Coincidentally, I just bought a DVD from a Very Large Electronics chain. I opened up the DVD (which I bought as new), and the first thing I noticed were someone else's fingerprints and scratches on the DVD.

    The DVD has annoying skips in at least two scenes(possibly due to the some of scratches, I assume). So, I go back to the store to return it tomorrow morning. Still, the fact that they sold me a somewhat defective and used DVD annoys me, and I don't intend to buy anymore DVD's from them.

    If you don't like such policies of ISP's, then either buy your own fiber optic cables, or vote with your pocketbook - don't subscribe to your ISP anymore. However, I am perfectly okay with current policies, so i will continue to subscribe to my current ISP.
