    I never said it would kill anyone... I was commenting on the fact that there are people stupid enough to sue them over something as inconsequential as a mild shock, and that statement absolves them of most of the liability.

    lets not forget we're in the country of "wasn't my fault!!!!!" these days

    It's nice to see "the little guy" get one over on the "anything you think, we own" mentality of the big corporations. Produce a product on company time, yeah that's work for hire, but this bullshit of "you made X 3 years after you left the company, but we still own it" has to stop.

    You're going to attempt to stream 3 separate video and audio streams over a 512kbit link?

    I think you need to look into more bandwidth, that's quite a low amount and I think you're going to see some issues from it.

    so if I call another Vonage customer, then CALEA doesn't factor in and they can't tap my call? I think that's incorrect. I could have sworn that they insisted that Vonage provide that capability for all of their customers.

    so again, why am I subject to CALEA when it's an IP-only call?

    while sattelite is a so-so choice for rural broadband, it's virtually unuseable for VOIP due to a minimum of ~500ms of latency. Most of the commercial providers *do* have some type of latency compensation in their software, but I'm almost certain that they aren't designed to compensate for that much of a delay.

    How does CALEA factor in when the connection doesn't touch the POTS system though?

    Seriously, if they can require *any* VOIP to be tappable, where does it stop? Email? web traffic? IM?

    yes you do... ever heard of a "chargeback" ? Every single one of these voip companies has you pay via credit card.

    It seems that lately a lot of stuff has started to regress to older tech. Steam power, hand labor being of higher value craftsmanship, blowing up "those damn arabs" (ok, that last one was a potshot, sue me)

    Is this just history repeating itself, or are we really going to start progressing towards an almost dark ages type society where we ressurect old tech and reuse it constantly?

    Damn Small Linux, blackbox, and bluetooth, and I think I just found my next remote webserver admin tool. I can't justify $2k for a machine, but less than $600 (tax, etc) might make it really feasable.

    I've tried out SphereXP and I have to say it's pretty kludgy. It bogged my machine down quite a bit, and just seemed rather counter intuitive. The idea of "parking" a window somewhere, and not being able to interact with it unless you restore it seemed to be a pretty big limitation to me.

    That's a damn good idea. I'd pay decent money (hint hint) for a "Firefox for PalmOS" to use with my Tungsten.
