It is *allready* possible, the value for credits in Everquest (credits==currency in the Everquest economy) on Ebay, is better than the value of many third world countries.

I personally know a few people who have been able to make several thousands of dollars a month off "farming" items in game. Of course if they actually calculated how much time they spent doing it (far more than a typical 8 hour day at an office), it wouldn't seem all that special to the typical middle class American...but to someone in a economically challenged area or country, it could feasibly be a serious windfall to them!

  5. what would be worth it on AOL/TW Plans for $230 Monthly Cable Bill · · Score: 1

everyone seems to agree that the price for this while seeming high, is really only a bit over what you would allready pay for cable TV, broadband internet, and phone service.

paying a bit more and getting a "all inclusive" package is great, but they have to offer more than the competition in my eyes to justify the price increase. sending out 3 checks instead of 1 is really not that much work.

so the big question is what will they offer that traditional services dont? The "movies on demand" thing sounds just like PPV to me, if you recieved a certain preset number of viewings per month that would be a nice perk. What about upstream bandwidth, if they could really deliver here that would also be a nice addition, but frankly does anyone expect AOL/TW to give people this, they are probably to concerned that they would be rippin em off with P2P apps.

There is only one place i can see this service delivering a improvement over using indivdual companies for each utility, and thats the phone service, if they can deliver this in their package and not have individual charges for each call that would be a huge item. I'm by no means sure they will offer that, but as i see it thats the only way they can justify the higher price. They have to offer *something* for the extra money, or do they?

Computer software is becoming easier and easier to use (even Linux), it doesn't take a whole lot of time to learn how to use a word processor and spreadsheet or do a google search these days. It's much more important to teach kids to read, write, and do math

When i took AP computer science in high school, we sure weren't learnin how to use google. I got some (admittedly) basic instruction in Pascal, Cobol, and Fortran in a 2 semester class (ya this dates me, it was a while back).

Im sure there are equally usefull skills being taught in some of the higher end computer classes now.

Sure schools need more teachers (and you are right on with it needing to be a more attractive profession), all the best books, and to teach the basics well. But its not such a bad thing to offer more than just that if they can do it.

If you ever "go bad" and decide to start screwing people, Paypal is your weapon of choice. If you are a scrupulous merchant, Paypal is probably the best way to go because there will be few complaints on either side of the transaction

There is actually a little less here than a "win-win" situation if you ask me.

Sure if the seller is scrupulous every transaction with pay-pal is likely to be a very smooth operation. As a buyer who has never dealt with his website for instance, how does one know he is scrupulous however?

If its that easy for the seller to not deliver on transactions, and pay-pal takes long enough to investigate transgressions for the seller to be gone after a few months of takin in the cash, i would be hesistant to purchase from any small business i dont know of with it.

It may cost a lot of money, and sometimes you recieve some really useless returns on that money (im not saying that will be the case here, who knows what thoose laser advances may actually end up usefull in, maybe even usefull eventually as a weapon or anti-weapon weapon)

The thing is, would you rather not fund some of this work and wait until some other countries have access to technology more advanced than ours and try to catch up, or would you rather stay on the leading edge? AT&T of course doesnt want their value to be worth anything more than the pittance they offered so they take some customers with em and voila all that extra money that @home negotiated for is now offset by a large number of lost customers

this all seems to be just run of the mill business practices i would suppose.

the funny part though, is why the heck didn't @home think of it before. I mean...if you have X million customers and are losing X million a month providing service to them, how much of a genious does it take to realize that charging each local cable company a few bucks more a customer will keep your business not only afloat but possibly profitable. Frankly i would say that a player that uses these in order to be a smaller player does have some inherent advantages. One has to consider that its also probably just an attempt by phillips to place more demand on a product they market which has very small demand IE. the 8cm cd's. If they really want to produce a smaller player with full features that implements the 8cm cd's then its a great idea. If it's just an attempt to create demand for their otherwise limited use cd's by producing a substandard (sound quality, reliability , etc) then it wouldnt impress me a bit, only time will tell
