Now I have two problems with this: 1. Couldn't you just calculate about how much time it would take to search through all those keys? 2. With d.net finding the keys, how useful will the time be? "The rc5 project took 5 years to crack by millions of computers that worked on it when they felt like it." It's not a controlled environment, so won't the time be meaningless?
Sorry that this is a little off topic, but I haven't seen anything on/. about rc5 in awhile and I have a question to ask.
Here goes...
What's the point of rc5? I can see d.net wanting to participate (because of the money and to test distributed computing), but why is the money being given away at all??
Everyone _knows_ that if you search long enough, you'll find the key. It's not a question of 'if' it's a question of 'when'... so what's the point?
Speaking of unauthorized use of sfx: I went to see Universal Soldier, The Return (which wasn't even worth matinee price imho), and when the door to some 'healing' chamber opened it made the Doom door sound! I wonder if they got permission. Funny thing is is that the door only did that the first time; the rest of the movie it was silent. Sound tech paying hommage to doom perhaps?
and I'm sick of looking for worthwhile comments on technology that I'm interested in and finding an abundance of complaints about slashdot. It's a free service that's incredibly easy to avoid completely or read selectively. A little respect never hurt anyone.

What about a cyberglove that recognizes sign language?
There would be a lot of really good films made. Maybe the company could offer ~$40 to anyone who brought them a decent idea. Hold a sort of contest. That'd be cool.
Hey Mr. Big Movie Maker Guy! If you're reading this, give me some money!
Actually... only about 25% of Americans know that. 15% of them think it's some other figure, 27% of them don't care, and the remaining 33% think that Jar Jar sucks.
I donno... I kinda liked it. At least it was a little more towards the 'strange science fiction' type stuff. Granted it didn't make sense, but it coulda been a helluva lot less original and more 'hollywood'.
Have you read any of the comics/short stories that happen in the 'same world' as the Matrix... very interesting. I suggest you follow some of the links from www.whatisthematrix.com
As for Clerks, which is also discussed in this thread, I found it very enjoyable, but I thought the female acting was a little weak (or maybe it was just the script when it came to the women *shrug*) I still liked it anyway.
I should make a point of watching more indy movies. If I ever get around to it I should try making my own too.
"there is no such thing as a joke when it comes to matters of life and death"
Are you kidding me?!?!
Ever watch Monty Python? (just the first one to come to mind) plenty of dying, and plenty funny besides... need a better, more modern example?
GoldenEye, when that Boris guy stands up and says, "I am invincible!" and then gets iced over by liquid nitrogen (or whatever) that was pretty funny.
But you're right about the mall... not quite the example I was looking for. It doesn't quite fit.
I just don't agree with pepsi on this one... I remember the commercial and I knew that it was supposed to be funny, but I also noticed that there was nothing in the commercial that said so. I just disagree with companies being able to falsely advertise. Yeah it's a funny lie, but it's a lie.
I went into the mall yesterday and yelled at the top of my lungs that I had a gun and was going to shoot everyone. Some people didn't get the joke! Can you believe it?
Now I'm being brought up on charges or some sh*t like that. Go figure.
First of all, thanks for your response.

*shrug*... Maybe I just don't understand.
ahh... or external cd-rom drive...
Anyone know if it'd be possible to make an adapter for a cdrom drive that connects to the flashram slot on the rio?

English is supposed to be capitalized. :)
Damn... that sounds like a really good idea.
There would be a lot of really good films made. Maybe the company could offer ~$40 to anyone who brought them a decent idea. Hold a sort of contest. That'd be cool.
Hey Mr. Big Movie Maker Guy! If you're reading this, give me some money!
I've been thinking about doing alternative cases for awhile... I even put a lego case on my 386.
:)
stuff like a hardwood case, or metal, or nerf (for the kids) would be really cool, and I don't know why no one's doing it yet.
Problem is that I don't have the talent or the materials. Maybe I should go for it anyway.
...a wooden mouse would look really cool tho.
Knowing how your parents feel about something (ie. Television) is important even if "you can do it anyway without their permission."
It functions as sort of a 'moral guideline'.
Just my take on things.
It happens in every business man. Some people are just deadbeats... that's all there is to it.
Actually... only about 25% of Americans know that. 15% of them think it's some other figure, 27% of them don't care, and the remaining 33% think that Jar Jar sucks.
Hey! You owe your life to sex... don't be so ungrateful.
I'd prefer they use 'her' rather than 'they'. When people use they it just sounds wierd.
I wouldn't get too hung up on this if I were you. Just a thought.
Well... I guess that's conclusive evidence, once and for all, that sex is more of a "good" thing than abstinence.
Kick ass... I knew it all along.
"The premise of Matrix was simply laughable"

While I agree largly with what you've said here, it's important that you consider the material...
What if all your kids did was read Hustler and all his kids did was watch, say, PBS or CBC... What then?
Of course it's most likely very unhealthy if _all_ your child does is read or watch tv.
Man I want a kid someday. Just so I can teach her/him how to use computers and such... Well, not just that, but that would be a great experience. :)
:P
It'd be just my luck if (s)he was a jock.
Well it is a capitalist country, what do you expect?
That is such BS it's funny...
Go to biography.com and read up on Einstien.
That Highschool dropout story is just to make people feel better about themselves.

I agree man... people are so uptight.

I should put a Harrier up for auction at eBay.
I wonder what the consequences would be.
Actually, you win money, with which you can buy blue dots... Hey, whatever you do with the money is probably okay with Sprite.
What's wrong with something for nothing? What about the X-10 promotion. They gave us like an $80 kit for next to nothing!
$23,000,000 / $700,000 ~= 32
$80 / $4 = 20
that's not so different is it?
(I don't know what shipping was for the x-10... I put $4... could be more or less *shrug*)
