I bet this is a marketing fuss, you see the censors rated good ol' Harry Potter as M (15+) but the uproar from the people the system is designed to protect saw it dropped to PG in short order.
I agree on the in general except on the time issue. We just had an election, entirely paper. The polls closed at 6pm and it was evident who had won by 8pm.
So what if it took a week, it's not like anyone is advocating Citizen's Initiated Referenda where you could vote as often as monthly?
When there are institutional problems in the system like grey money or low voter turnout, complaining that the most accountable process is expensive and time consuming is very irresponsible for both the citizens and politicians in a democracy.
Yeah sure, I haven't baught for myself nor spec'd for clients, an intel in years now (since 1999). I expect it more because they're selling less overall. AMD seem to be slowly but surely walking away with the market.
Although the form is encrypted on submission it requires the user to blindy trust this will hapen (or as you did look at the code). It is common for websites to encrypt the form itself as well, not because it is that much more secure, but to alleviate the worries expressed. I see it as basic courtesy.

Put a teaspoon of water into a well heated frypan and the water (while it is still a liquid) will generally form up in little blobs and behaves in a similar fashion. ie. moving in a circular motion.
You are largely mistaken. Although the firewsall (ipf) reports all ports closed and is not accepting new incomming connections, it is infact open at least on certain ports, which you are not informed! I specifically refer to the mechanism OfficeX and others use to check for coppies on the local network. If you turn the firewall on (block everything) from the GUI, OSX will still alow the copy protect agent to connect to each machine and enquire.
Now if you specifically block these ports with ipf from the terminal then the ports will be blocked, eg:
/sbin/ipfw add 0 deny tcp from any to any 3464 /sbin/ipfw add 0 deny udp from any to any 2222
A firewall that reports its' closed/blocked but is not, is just a toy, even if it uses arguably the best filter available.
If one was to obtain (peel or print) an appropriate sticker, it would be relatively easy to create an ethernet or wifi card with a sinister personality.
If your bandwidth requirements are not too high you may be able to use a distributed file system on many redundant (cheap IDE & G ethernet) nodes and allow for replacements. Your uptime should be constant, given enough UPS and redundancy of nodes.
you may infact need glasses. Stimatism(sp) initially presents itself as eye-tiredness then little "grey" patches in you vision (like a spot of dust on a camera lense) when you are very tired. So do yourself a favor and have your eyes tested, I did and can once again sit at the box for long periods.
Although this is an obvious flamebait, I would be interested in hearing from those involved (generically, laptops in schools) concerning the issues raised.
What benefit has been actually observed in the students having the laptops?
What are they used for that could not be achieved another way (eg: a diary)?
I ask this as my children's primary school (K-6) has several computers (dells) in each classroom, but they are only used for kidspix or to type up compositions, which to me is counter productive, in that the final is submitted as type, not in hand writing, which is one of the things I thought they were supposed to be learning??? I have several PC at home at their disposal, but homework is always done with pencil & paper while the tools include dictionary & textbooks.

WTF? This one I just dont get (beyond why not)

"You've said that so many times, it's lost all its meaning"
The blue one labled AC is kinda obvious - all expensive cars come with air.
So I'm more that a little concerned the "solution" is to ban urls... wtf?
It can only be a good thing for Cannon too?
Since it's slash'd we wouldn't want this degenerating into a Dogs vs Cats thing. My kar doesn't particularly care for cats either....
The only case I'm aware of terrorists using "software" as apart of their "plans" was the 911 pilots triaining on MS Flight Sim... wtf!?
IIRC you can induce current along a plasma beam - is that what you were thinking?
Sure your bandwidth is lower (in general), but you can't induce a current along a 2.5GHz wireless link...
If your bandwidth requirements are not too high you may be able to use a distributed file system on many redundant (cheap IDE & G ethernet) nodes and allow for replacements. Your uptime should be constant, given enough UPS and redundancy of nodes.
12 in 200 is better odds than you apparently get stuffed into an incinerator or the more traditional 6ft under.
Sorry, I don't think not being able to do simple maths without a calculator is quaint or character building, but YMMV...
