You think that $1,000,000 is quite a chunk of cash for a business? It's nothing. Really, for a business of any size at all, $1,000,000 will barely cover operating costs for a couple of years. And that's assuming very few staff, very small offices, and no production costs.
Well, thanks professor. I have always enjoyed posting trolls and some good comments, hence my karma remained around 30-40 for some time. Then, slashdot got gayer and gayer, until now it is at the point where I read it maybe once a week. When I do post it is to post shit maybe 9 times out of ten.
As for my sig, bearing in mind that my 30-40 karma is now due to go negative after this post, maybe, just maybe my post lamenting my lack of 26 karma is a little disingenuous? Maybe my use of the words 'plz' and 'kthx' should hint that sincerity is not at the forefront of my agenda?
I don't really care about my karma other than hopefully keeping enough to avoid the 2 post per day rule (thanks Taco for showing your trust in moderation by bypassing it)
Incidentally, as a fun experiment to play with/. moderation, I suggest you try the following: post some insightful comments and see the occasional one get modded to three. Now post a lame ass joke, and watch it rocket to 5. Karma is easy to get by anyone who is willing to play the game. I'm not playing the game, Slashdot is dying.
Really, take a look around. How shit are the stories? How one sided are all the comments? The only arguments you see now on/. are whether MySQL or Postgres is the better DB. The rest is self congratulatory circle jerking "Oooh, sticking that sticker on your case is a great case mod! I'm so glad you posted it to Slashdot."
I can't believe MS have got yet another bug. Their software has just shown time and again that they have no idea how to write secure code. This sort of thing will take them months to come up with yet another Windows Update.
This sort of teething problem is bound to appear in Konqueror and is not really that serious. No doubt it'll be fixed and patched within a few days (or hours if history is any guide!) it's situations like this when you see just how superior Open Source is as a paradigm.
You manually typed in all of the POKE commands? You realise you could have typed 50% quicker by writing a wrapper that cycled through an array of memory/value pairs?
So, in other words, their main problems are starting it, controlling it, stopping it, and keeping it running in the meantime. No doubt we can expect a prototype soon.
A trick I learned was to simply use the same account each time you need to log in. I've found it works for Slashdot too, and means I can keep the same username for each post!
not difficult to get the same message across without trying to offend the person you're talking to.
Indeed, I was just replying in the style you'd initiated "I think he's full of s**t."
I use VBR, end up with files less than half the size, and it sounds good to me.
...and this is why I posted the line you quoted. It's because you are passing your opinion on the quality of codecs/bitrates when I would claim that it is blatantly obvious that the lower bitrates sound crap. I can't comment on how clearly this will be exemplified by Hendrix, but with TLC at least I should hope you'll think "damn, he was only bloody right!"
If you ever wonder why people don't like you
*cough**splutter* And yes, I have a proud following of freaks too, but you'd expect that from someone who has done lots of trolling.
Yep, I should have said Pixies really - just as obvious to hear and far better music. I happen to have some of their songs at 128K and you're not wrong. Flat, sounds like it's being played through a pair of headphones 6 feet away.
Nowadays I rip at 192 as standard, but still there's noticable artifacts on certain songs.
That is because you have crap hearing. Get a very cleanly (over) produced song - I recommend TLC - Unpretty (no, you don't have to like it.
Listen to the percussion at the intro at 128kb, 160kb, 192kb, 320kb and CD audio. Do it through a proper system (hint: those hi-fi quality computer speakers you bought for £30 don't cut it) and compare the difference.
On the song in question, the intro is actually painfully distorted until 192kb when it becomes merely aging tape standard.
If you can't hear this difference having done exactly what I've said then I suggest you are not qualified to ever post a comment to a thread discussing audio quality again.

I was going to dedicate it to BDC for his impressive trolling work yesterday. However:
Slashdot requires you to wait 2 minutes between each successful posting of a comment to allow everyone a fair chance at posting a comment.
It's been 1 minute since you last successfully posted a comment

Hehe - you'd have to be careful what team was sent if you valued anything in orbit at all.
In the trans-atlantic scrapheap challenge a couple of years ago the British champions took on the American champions to make a car crusher. The Brits built this elegant hydraulic ram system to precisely and slowly crush the car.
The Americans built a fucking big hammer. Says a lot about the two countries I think. Mind you, the Americans won so I shouldn't laugh too much.
I've been scanning this article for your jokes, they are all pretty good (evn though I've heard many before) but this one actually had be laughing out loud.
Good job I'm not in the office or I'd have to explain what was so funny.

That's all some people have got - they couldn't fit a bigger computer under the chicken coop, so the Taliban will have confiscated them.

PS. Postgres is better.

Guess you didn't...
Here is my guide to bypassing the system:
- Don't install the plugin.
- Err...
- That's it.
There is no need to bypass anything until it's installed mandatorily.I need an FP, irrespective of IP bans.
A trick I learned was to simply use the same account each time you need to log in. I've found it works for Slashdot too, and means I can keep the same username for each post!
HTH!

Nuff said.
PS. wtf if the third line indented by one char?
Bastards! In fact, they are so committed to not resolving the bug that they've somehow hidden it on my system so that I can't see it happening.

I think you'll find fusion has been possible for a long time. Cold fusion may be of more interest however.

Hey Slashdot, I've got a barrel - would you like to post something about the bottom of it?
Why doesn't she create an account?
Right - so there's an S-video out, a vga out, but just what the fuck is that massive connector in the middle?
