Any virus writer? Just haul the whole of microsoft off to jail in that case. Rembemer, IDIOT!, it's not "malicious code" it's a exploitation of STUPID code produced by the authors of windows. Microsoft still isn't half as serious as they need to be, they never get out security fixes before someone causes havoc, or could cause havoc, and they never NEVER EVER fix their STUPID code base.
What did he actually do wrong, anyway, try to sum it up in a few words. Remember, this virus is just another program, it just runs different, and I don't think there is any crime involved, other than "malicious code" Who is supposed to define "malicious code" anyway? M$? Lets hope not!
Do I feel your pain, sure, I got hit with msblast on win2k, it stinks, but I'm not going to point my finger at a amature virus writer, whom I have no business with, and who didn't form an illegal monopoly, and mess up the computer industry, just look at the XBOX, and then tell me that M$ didn't intentionally make win2k and winxp suck.
Why does everyone just swallow everything about this whole "our security needs to be protected, so we won't tell you how we fucked it up!" It sure hasn't worked for microsoft, and I don't think it's worked for anyone as good as the BSD policy.
If we had more knowlege of how the plants worked, we wouldn't have had a bunch of idiots (read f-- idiots) mess it up like this.
And another thing! why does everyone want to know "who's fault was this", rather than, "who the f- was clean on this whole thing?"
As with any service run today, nobody prepares for demand -- enough. For example, your dialup ISP probably has one line for every 20 people. Power companies have one watt for every 4 people, etc. That's great, they can save output, and lower costs, but they are BIG TIME RESPONSIBLE, when they're need-estimates, and safty measures to meet the demand gets totally messed up.
Perhaps we couldn't take a so mean, aggressive approach before, but it's totally nessesary now, and I think this whole big lack of responsibilty should definatly be a wake-up call. Get onto the power companies, and get onto the green jerks if you're not helping things, get out of the way, or get DuNKED ON!
Ok, so you'll drink all your life and wreck your liver by the time you're 40. You'll get a new liver, and instead of obeying the doctor, you'll keep on drinking. That donated liver will last you at most 2 years. 6 months is more like the average, and that's only if the operation goes right in the first place. How do you expect that to really help you?
Actually, you have a very good point, that most people don't realize. Most of the useable organs come from people who die in car wrecks. It's one of those sudden deaths, where a lot of organs are not smashed, or torn too bad, and you are presumably not sick. That's probably why they handle this using at your DMV.
surely you cannot be serious with me. If you were, you'd have to be a numbskull. If you don't want to have a baby, don't fuck around. If you can't afford to have a child, put it up for adoption. There are non-profit groups who help people like that.
Besides, theres a double standard in the law. If I walk up and kill a pregnant woman, and the baby she would give berth to died too, I would be charged for killing not one, but two people. However, the same woman could instead go into a abortion clinic, and have the baby killed by a much more painful method than I would use, and everything is cool.
If you don't have any problem with that, there's no point in talking anymore.
I think you got me wrong.. but that's all your opinion. Just don't confuse your opinion with the facts. Remember, organ donors give freely, but people who remove, and plant organs in someone else rake it up. Its kind of sad that people who recieve these organs usually end up in the same mess within 2 years at best.
I'm a republican with deep religous beliefs, but that's not why I'm not a organ donor, I'm just smarter than you Yes, another shameful plug, but it's true.
I wish you wouldn't talk against the "pro-life" stance, it really is quite simple, we don't want people to kill babies, their own, or somebody elses (boy-friend forced abortions are attempted, and sometimes successful).
Just like I wouldn't want you to kill a 4 year-old, I wouldn't want you to kill a 4 month-old either.
Also, to the best of my knowlege, there are very few unborn people to recieve organs from someone else.
I don't know where you live, but here in Soviet Russ Err..Florida, you don't have to ask, they ask you. When I got my license, I was asked if I wanted to be a organ donor, and I responded no. If I wasn't listening, I could have said the wrong thing, because they do put the question with all the other dumb questions.
You have to realize also, some people just think the idea that someone else has their organ is pretty scary, I'm kind of undecided on that, but I'm not a donor for other reasons
Part of the problem is that you can be officially considered dead, if you are a organ donor, or not dead if you aren't. Despite what the organ donor perponents say, you really aren't as safe if you are a donor. I know someone who died "on the table" and came back, she is not a donor, but if she was, she wouldn't be alive today.
The hard part about organ donations, is the organs need to be taken out very soon after a death, and sometimes it's too soon.
That's a mute point. For example, Verizon will sell their service to Earthlink for such a high price that Earthlink won't be able to afford to compete with Verizons prices. It makes it look like Earthlink is expencive, (and yes, they are) but they could be cheaper.
Also, I'm not even sure if a second company is allowed to run lines where there are already lines, so with Bellsouth making a complete joke of line service here (I'm under the distance limit, but they don't provide access), I can't get someone else in, except for highway robbery "business dsl" starting at about $90/month for 128k.
Remember, these processors are 64bit, and they are not as fast as a opteron, but then, the opteron isn't proven, and I don't know any of the specs on them for performance compared to other processors.
SGI systems stay around because they are literally a must-have for some businesses, even despite their high costs. OTOH, Apple... nevermind.:-)
Fortunatly for the BSD movement, it's always been serious, too serious actually. The problem is, a lot of us linux users would rather just play games, but we use linux because it's awesome, at least compared to windows. Personally, I use linux because the driver support is better than bsd, and the bsd ftp servers are slow. I should get a Freebsd CD, but I can just see trying to explain to my parents why I "need" it, or "what is this going to do for you". Sure, I could just buy the retail box, with the manual for $60 cash, but I dont have that kind of money to waste.
Now think about that. You're going to buy a Xbox for $179, so you can use it like a PC.. This really doesn't make any sense, when you can build a system of greater power for just a tad more. And yes, it would be much greater power. Remember, A xbox is just a p3 733 with a geforce 4. Both fairly cheap by todays standards.
If you aren't going to use Xbox games, theres no point in getting one. (but I'm not saying there's a reason you wouldn't want to do something else too).
Wal-marts standards are not really all that high. Wal-mart sells to it's general audience, and it sells well. When a bad movie, or a bad video game comes around that's any good, they'll sell it despite their "policy". They just didn't want to land in the same trouble as k-mart, who lost it's big market by selling junk books (that didn't sell anyway).
You are correct, I misread the first listing of the "oem full version", however, you can get a preinstallation cd for $8, plus $58 for the license for a total of $66. The sites are required to say you need hardware, but hardly any of them actually come through with it. I bought a oem win2k, for about $112 a while back.. it said it required hardware purchase, but nobody followed up on it. even if they did, I could have just got a mouse, or another nic.
Sure, $50 is nice, but it's not really a big deal. If you're going to the trouble of installing winxp, you probably wont mind building your own box, and with the profit that tigerdirct makes on you, you might as well build from scratch, and pay $16 extra for xp.
What everyone seems to be forgetting here, is hardly anyone pays $200 for a home-user version of windows. Most people get the newer version of windows with a newer pc, and that costs OEM pricing for the manufacturer. In fact, you can get the OEM version of XP home (with license) for $58 on pricewatch (direct link)
You should look at TCO, and I'm not just talking about support. RDRam is rediculous, and a complete p4 system ends costing a lot more than a comparable athlon. HotHardware.com did say it overclocked well, up to 2520mhz, a 13% increase, and 320mhz.
Yes, but you also get independent "affiliate programs", I was spammed for inkjetshopper.com, a wholesale inkjet cart. site.. they have a legit business and awesome prices (say, $5/cart in groups of 5... sure beats $30 each from office depot). I did not however use a direct link, and avoided his illegal refurral.
To get to the point, small websites, beginners... people trying to make money online, and utterly failing could also be responsible even now.
No, he didn't misread it, Slashdot did, this is a dumb article, it's old news (IBM did it 6 months ago), and it had a poorly written submission. This gets posted, but the Virginia Spammer felony charge law didn't?? (yeah, I submitted that, but I just wanted to see the article posted, if someone else writes it better, go ahead, reject mine.)
Absolutely correct. However, there are also tons of spam that DONT get blocked. I don't use aol personally, but I wouldn't belive you if you say you dont get spam on aol.
Well, you also have to look at the root meaning of words. Broad and Band.
1 a : having ample extent from side to side or between limits "broad shoulders" b : having a specified extension from side to side "made the path 10 feet broad"
2 : extending far and wide : SPACIOUS "the broad plains"
And band, which has about six definitions for two.. all either meaning a strip of something, or someting to hold something together.
The opposite of broad being narrow.. broadband would have to be more broad than another "bandwidth", to be properly defined.
So, as it is with broad being relative, you can't say that all networks fitting into the definition of "broadband" are really broadband, because it's mutually exclusive.
The solution? require ISPs to list the speed on the front page. but then, they'd have to think about reasonable rates... what a phenomenon!
Just think if starband had to start advertising 256k/128k for ONLY $79/month!!
DN3d may not be a big hit given the overall PC gaming history, but it was definatly a big hit for the small 3drealms at the time, and they made a killing. They really don't have a big programming team, and that's one reason why it's taking so long. I wouldn't be surprised if DNF ends up being a low-cost game, (if it ever comes out) for it's class.
Dude three years!?!? Duke nukem forever has been scheduled to come out every year after 1997!!! This makes it the latest game of all time, in fact probably the latest software release of all time. Btw, DNF was originally supposed to be a 2d shooter with some neat stuff.. but they dropped it mid into 1997, and started on a 3d engine, then they switched to the unreal enine.
Given that the main usage for PCI cards (or NICS as they should be called), is web servers, this is very targeted towards apache. Apache uses more network bandwidth than anything else, and it would be a very big help, esp. if someone would test this on html code, instead of random data. Whenever you have lame html (html by idiots, or idiot-coded programs, or idiot's scripts), you generally get multiple unnessesary tags, and even in well formed html, there are recurring tags that could be compressed, concievably even more than standard text.

I say, fix the dumb root-user only bug, and then take the version back to 0.3. Man, software companies today!
