    Sun just stopped x86 development of solaris, which means the only OS on PC's they like is now Linux. Scince there isn't a sparc version of Staroffice, Linux and Solaris are the only platforms where Sun will profit.

    Windows users on the other hand should be using Linux, and mabye they would if star office is only free with it.

    This is about Slashdot, not about gnome. Every time KDE has a story, the moderation is equally lopsided. But this really isn't too bad, because these products are both good, and shouldn't have people saying BOO to their releases.

    Slashdot has it's downs, but there aren't any nerd sites better that are of near size.

    FYI, X windows never resembled windows 3.x in ui and functionality. Windows XP is just starting to come up with a few of the features of X windows, and they're doing it wrong.

    The sound quality of WMA is way lower, and WMA isn't compressed as much, so the file size of the OGG is smaller. A size closer to WMA would be MP3, and MP3's take less time than wma's.

    Your comments on global warming being false are correct. But your conclusion is just as dumb as the whole Global Warming scam. Old growth forests actually use up oxygen as the trees decay, and ferment. Younger trees are just better for oxygen out-put. Maybe we should put that money into something useful.

    Apple based OS X on Mach os (kernel mostly), and FreeBSD. FreeBSD goes back to bsd 4.4, not NetBSD.

    Broadband companies won't go to a city unless another one has, so it ends up with a whole bunch of providers in single cities, while us in the less (or sometimes more) populated areas, don't get anything.

    Sure, I could shell out $70/month for starband, but it's slow ping, and the transfer rate isn't as good as isdn on an uplink.

    Those crazy folks at microsoft keep messing things up! ".net" has just made zone.com inconvenient (the only ms service I use), and all the other msn stuff is worse. .NET has launched, but it hasn't proven any advantage.

    It's not just that I'm a MS hater, the other Zone users don't like .net either, make your customers happy and don't use it.

    No, we aren't on a subject that has anything remotely to do with GUI's.

    We are talking windows 3.0 quality here.

    It's just not true. Windows 3.0 was more of a window manager than a gui, and it was the first version of windows that actually worked. KDE has been rated more simple than windows xp, and gnome is a lot nicer.

    Well, you still have that choice. I don't get anything. If I wanted broadband I'd have to go with starband for $70/month, which is too expencive, to slow pings, and microsoft (in order of importance).

    I personally don't like the idea of people sniffing an internet connection, but I do see a difference between a phone.

    Your phone company is not chosen by you, the only way you can change phone companies is to move. However with a broadband internet connection, it's different.

    Most places who get one broadband provider get several, I think they call it defence(i.e. don't let your competition expand in one area while you expand in another area). Therefore you have a choice to use it or not.

    They're not taking sales away from adobe, they're just marketing it for them. Adobe wouldn't sell a bundle for a loss, they sell bundles because they can make money that way.

    If I sell you a 50 potatos for $20, and you sell them for $1 each, even though I sell them for $1.50 individually, I should be happy for the sales anyway.

    I just wish more people would consider how much money is lost in all the licensing confusion of software. Maybe people would be more open to open source.

    Obviously you didn't READ your XP EULA, and you're just a troll. Microsoft EULA's are rediculous, just for curiosity I read the win95 eula, and it was UGLY. Stuff about danger to your health, death because of airplane wrecks etc.

    Maybe if you bought the cd, turned it on and found out it was a peice of junk you'd return it. With rediculous labels on music it's not unlikely, such as "Classical" including 80's rap and 90's rock.
