  3. Re:Baldness on Gene Research Gives Hope of Reversing Baldness · · Score: 1

I started losing my hair at around age 16. I was a bit worried because obviously high-school students are mostly evil and I didn't want to give them yet another name to call me, but it wasn't really visible since I had a big bushy head of long, wavy, early-1990s-tortured-artist hair at the time.

Once school was over and the socially-active mutants I called my classmates ceased being a worry, I didn't have much of a problem with it. In fact, since I started buzzing it all off a few years ago, I find I really prefer how I look and feel. Additionally, people are occasionally inspired to rub my head, which is quite soothing.

Since we're spilling our hearts out like this was an Oprah episode:

I started losing my hair at 19(thankfully past high school). Yes, at one time I had a freakin' mullet. But then the top started thinning. Several years later I decided to bite the bullet like you, and shave it all off. I now am as hairless as my uncle & father, even though you get baldness from your mother's side.

I too get the head rubbing treatment. One roller derby girl did it to me before she went on the rink to my flattery. We can all thank our friend Buddah for starting that trend. Yes, it is smoothing.

Another advantage is with a bald head, you now have a tactile sensor network around your head. Any slight displacement of air and you can feel it. Sadly, this means having to wear hats in windy weather, but you save tons on hair care products, only needing to buy razor blades.

    - enable the composite in ports in the front? I'd love to have access to those to hook up a video game console, etc.
    - enable the Ethernet port so I can watch downloaded videos(okay that's a pipe dream, but that dang Ethernet could be useful).
    - make the god damn DVI port work with my HDMI port on my TV? I have one of the HDTV models it's not compatible with.
    - USB port: woudln't it be cool if we could put video files on a thumbdrive and it would play them on the television screen?

Yeah, I know. I'm coming up with ideas for ports they for some strange reason decided to include(which costs money) but make absolutely no use of.

From what I remember of Logo, few people in the class "got" it. Everyone in CS harps on and on about how great logo is, but most of my classmates in grade-school just laughed when the "turtle" did stupid things, and asked the teacher for help (ie, to fix it for them.)

I fail to see how that's a problem. Not everyone will understand computers, just as how I failed Calc twice in college. I remember making an alternative to the standard method of drawing a circle( repeat 360[fd 1 rt 1]) by doing a pen-up, fd 50, pen down, fd 1, pen up, back 51, rt 1, and repeating 360 times. A much more flexible circle function!

Now it's over 20 years later and I'm programming in Python on a daily basis at my job. I'm happy.

That was my biggest gripe of Half Life TFC: Almost no map variety. You were almost always guaranteed to play 2fort. It was the de_dust of TFC. It got boring after awhile.

I enjoyed the other maps like the attack/defense map where you would have the attacking team going literally at a snail's pace towards the flag due to all the crossfire. It was great. Favorite map? The map of the gigantic living room where snipers frequently stood in the bookshelf.

In terms of multiplayer-PC game maps, Multi Theft Auto is great. Tons of maps(Deathmatch and race), most of them suck, but still fun to play. They load literally in a second, being grafted onto San Andreas. Now only if the combat(ie get out of your car) MTA will surface.

This is probably true, have you ever tried to talk on a radio, usually to both a dispatcher and other units, type a plate into a mobile terminal, and drive at the same time? A cop must do this all at the same time even while on normal patrol. At some point, a cop is going to have to make a decision whether he can safely execute a maneuver without signaling or he is going to be task saturated.

Considering us civilians are under scrutiny for talking on our cellphones + driving, cops shouldn't be trying to one-up that. That's going to get them into an accident. They should pull over.
