While this may get shot down (NPI) as all a bit of movie inspired silliness, it's people who attempt these very ambitious projects and designs that change the world. Hey - commercial spaceflight is a reality today so why not?
If the machines are permitted to make all their own decisions, we can't make any conjectures as to the results, because it is impossible to guess how such machines might behave. We only point out that the fate of the human race would be at the mercy of the machines.
Just because we may allow machines the ability to make thier own decisions and possible influence some of ours, doesn't mean we're headed down the food chain. For starters there will always be a resistance to any new technology, and humans consider independance an admiral, and desirable trait. For example there are many average people who will never want to, and arguably never need to, use the Internet.
While intelligent machines could improve the standard of living world-wide, we'll balance them to extract hopefully the most personal gain.
Considering Firfox still has a fairly tech-savvy userbase (who in theory patch often), it'd be interesting to see what percentage of security exploits actually happen when using to two browers in the real world.
I believe that Firefox would have a significantly lower security breach rate than IE, but further compared with Opera or Safari?
The few users that do actually hear about this will, in the majority of cases, not care.
All of them know they are stealing already. The fact that the software they are using is also stealing from others wont faze them in the slightest.
BTW the mentioning of 'a charity' in the article was cheap as almost all affiliates will be merchants. It was mentioned to draw emotion, when the reality is different. Poor form.
Bumper stickers are great, tee shirts with Tux & Linux (writ large) are nice, just do anything that marks you as a happy Linux user. Use your imagination, you'll be surprised at how much fun you can have as a Linux ambassador.
Me: G'day gorgeous can I buy u a drink? Her: I'd love one. Whats that on ur shirt? Me: It's Tux from this cool new OS called linux. Her: Um... i gotta go stand over... um.. there. Me: Damn that stupid article.
He's not suggesting that the OS is hard to install. I think he's not confident that linux (proabably KDE) can stand up to a quick play by the consumer, especially with staff that are not pros to guide them and answer they're questions properly.
This is not a troll, but judging by his statement I think Timothy isn't that confident that a demonstrated PC and being honest with the consumer will help push linux.
Mod me down if you think that this didn't add to the conversation but it's my honest opinion.
It's good to see that Walmart is promoting the Mandrake boxen ahead of the Lindows ones, with Windows last on their desktop PC's page.
Even though they are clearly in Linux for a buck, that is the ideal situation for retailers. IBM, Sun and the rest, should and do support us technically, Walmart and hopefully soon others by portraying linux as a viable option at the POS.
A built-in web server is included with each client, this enables you or someone else on your LAN to view/listen to your active channels with a standard web browser.
For all you lot preparing to cry sercurity, sercurity, security, don't worry it only runs on windows so I'm sure everything is ok.
This doesnt solve the problem of the repeated hook files but does explain why your eminem search results come back with no genuine results.
Getting around these fake files is easy, just use the track names in your KazzaLite search.
The reason that the songs are blocked and return no results is because Overpeer is blocking all searches that include the word eminem on Fasttrack. They are only allowed to block the songs that contain 100% definately copyrighted material. If they blocked the name of the track then all kinds of non-eminem files would be blocked as well and therefore it would be an illegal DOS AFAIK.
1. Google search for CD track list 2. Enter titles only NOT artist in your P2P search 3. Burn, Burn, Burn RIAA.
All this is promising but they still have a hurdle to overcome before they gain the 95%coverage they are after. As their service gains in popularity people will start to notice the access points and object to them for similiar reasons as mobile phone towers, looks and perceived health effects. Soon enough the complaints will roll in making getting the coverage an issue.
I will start celebrating if (not necessarily when) the service provides better value than the current Australian standard of 3 gig per month caps for $75.

Firstly, this kind of thing will very quickly make its way across all racquet/bat/glove/sword/anything sports if it's proven a worthwhile advantage. Just as quickly it will cost your average club level player the extra cost to keep up.
The Australian Football League allowed the use of gloves 7 or so years back. The AFL has been in existance over 100 years without them but that perceived advantage lead to half of the players (at least) playing the game using them. Juniors at the local clubs naturally followed suit, and the sport as a whole suffered because of fewer numbers participating due to the cost.
I love technology, but the advantages and disadvantages of somthing like this have got to looked at carefully before this should be permitted at any level.
... the mirrors on either side? Even if you needed to look at the keys (which you shouldn't because its pitched at touch typists) the small mirrors would reverse your view.
The video also goes to great lengths to explain why the angles our hands go on with a conventional keyboard are bad, but replaces this with a design which involves having your hands in the air constantly. WTF? Try using this for an full day.
Possibly. If 'they' put it on city surveillance cameras (in the name of fighting terrorism), the Michael Jackson face mask might just take off...

What happens on the footy trip stays on the footy trip. Same applies for buck's nights and any other "I'm away from the wife for a week" trips.
Breaking this rule results in no further trip away invites.
There once was a time in my life that after going to the pub I wouldn't be coding, but going to the strippers with the rest of the boys.
You lot have corrupted me.
Where does Nimbda keep coming from? IIRC it was Nimda, the reverse of Admin.

I hope that some of the $300 accounts for a littering fine.

Does it really surpise anyone that the government is taking a similiar approach to the Internet as the RIAA?
