What about the Settlers / Serf city games? Best real-time action games I've ever played. Ok, they're slow and it's kind of boring, having to wait for the trees and grain to grow, but very addictive anyway. (and you can always press F12 or so to speed things up)
Another nice one I had on my XT was "The Ancient Art of War", by brøderbund. Unfortunately it won't run on my new(er) machine, it finishes the game in about 0.1 seconds.
In general, you don't want more results, you want less results, and you want them to be more specific.
So a search for oranges that returns all kinds of fruits and colors, is not very useful.
What could be useful, is if it detects whether you mean the fruit or the color from context : so a search for orange vitamins would only return hits related to the fruit, not the color.
(A quick check shows that searching for orange vitamins only returns pages about the fruit anyway, but there are probably some better examples.)
5. changing your preferences to show the "light" version, no slashboxes, only show 1 comment, etc. will dramatically lower your refresh time, so you can refresh every second or so.
6. Don't use a script to reload. It's lame, and doesn't quite give the same rush a "real" first post gives.
In this conflict, there is no neutral ground. If any troll sponsors the crapflooders and page-wideners, they have become crapflooders and page-wideners themselves. And they will take that lonely path at their own peril.
And for our customer, we were selling a link, a circuit caped to 5 mbps as an example. If they were using only 2 mbps as average used bandwith on it, we were charging them the price for a 2 mbps but if they downloaded 150 gigs or 15000 gigs, the price wasn't changing, it was the same since it was caped to 5 mbps.
That doesn't make sense: avg. bandwidth is total data divided by time. Presuming the links are "sold" (rented more likely) per fixed timespans (1 week, month, year), charging according to average bandwidth is actually the same as charging according to data downloaded in that timespan.
After all, I'd rather see logged in troll goodness than AC crap.
I totally agree.
My point was, that somehow setting AC's to -1 (or -6 for that matter) doesn't work. (try it)
my guess is, and I'm not going to bother to look up the source or anything, that first the ac modifier is applied, so it gets kicked to -5 or so, then it's made -1 because that's the lowest it can get, and AFTER that, the +1 bonus for long comment is added, so it's back at 0
Basically it's the same discussion as for the karma cap : roundoffs/caps/etc. should occur last, not halfway a calculation
What makes you think it happens more often in space? Hard-disk crashes just happen, here and in space.
It WOULD seem like a good idea to me to minimize hard-disk usage during the launch though. I'm not sure about the vibrations during lift-off, but I think I'd like my hard-drive heads safely parked when it happens.
Ah the good old days when you had to park your hard-disk before turning off your pc.
Contrary to popular believe, bandwidth DOES cost money, so it's not that strange they do this.
A lot of people just want (their computer) to be online 24/7, and don't use that much bandwidth.
It should be cheaper for them than for those who use kazaa as an external harddisk.
They probably think these pirates are really very honest people, who only rip off the movie industry to make a statement, or because they make too much money anyway, or any of the standard "it's ok to steal from the rich" statements you get here after a story about mp3z, warez or DivX.

Ok, here we go again.
Look here for the answer.
Also, the favorite science scam poll has some interesting comments about this. Look it up.

I think it's more in the skincolor/pink region.
why only one?
He just checked with his reverend, and he said it's ok to look at porn ONCE in your life.

yeah but look at this story, and tell me if it's as wide as goatse's ass. It is on *MY* screen.
Nice idea, but unfortunatly anonymous page widening cannot be stopped like this. And somehow changing the anonymous "bonus" to -6 doesn't help either.
*SIGH* when will it end...

what about the comments? Are they gonna include all the creative uses of the word fuck in the comments?
Search for pwl in morpheus.
It's... interesting
it's -17 now, thanks for asking.
Anyway, we've all seen what happens to interesting posts, haven't we?
Remember when crapflooders were *REAL* crapflooders, trolls were *REAL* trolls, and first posts were *REAL* first posts?
Ah the good old days...
for all the trolls of /.
Tsk tsk, what foul language here, go wash your mouth with soap.
Come now, children, no fighting over a first post. Shake hands (the clean one please), and forget about it.
Damn, missed it by an inch.
Good work, trollercoaster
Not if you lick it up afterwards
There are openly gay bishops, so I wouldn't call consistency within ones believes a mayor attribute of Christian faith (or any faith for that matter)
