There have been many times when I was glad I had a 4.3 liter V6 Vortec under the hood of my blazer =) 320hp is not necessary to do anything, but it sure helps when the freeway system sucks. It sure helps to get out of the way of those large 18-wheelers, especially trying to get around one when going up a hill, i wasn't able to pass a semi in my subaru when driving to Seattle. Flash does have its places though, like another poster that replied to you, cartoons. You really can't touch how good a flash cartoon looks like with much else, and its fairly easy to create that cartoon. I guess it comes down to why flash was used on the site. Ive made some sites with flash, but it was just an experiment to mess around with it. I see too many of these 'experiments' make it onto normal websites, where its just a mess, but Ive also seen many HTML pages like that as well. Anyway, if the author decided to use flash because its *flashy* then id rather see the HTML version.. if he used it to make it easier to navigate, or something along those lines, id rather use the flash site.. Then, anytime I go to someplace that requires me to fill out stuff, i could hit a button on the page that inserts that information for me. That would be all I would want it to do though. I wouldn't want this information available to anyone else, and it would be purely for the ease of me not having to manually type that stuff out. I wouldn't want it to hold any sort of credit card information, as I can type out those numbers fairly easily, and it makes me feel just that much safer.

Isn't Microsoft Passport similar to the system that I describe? I don't use passport, and I haven't seen any 3rd party websites start to use passport yet (and I don't see how any company would want to use passport, with all the passport hacks that were going on last year.. I haven't heard of many lately, but they haven't shown a great track record).

To tell you the truth I dont have much of a need for a system like this, I don't even trust my bank at times, and banks have been around for a long time.

Try to go to canada without having a drivers license, you'd probably have to get a passport or something instead. In Idaho we can get identification cards, which look exactly like a drivers license but it says Identification Card instead of Class D Drivers License. These can be used as valid ID for bars and whatever else you might need verification. I wonder if in this state they have a similar thing, I would imagine they do. The problem is that everytime microsoft bundles some basic software with the OS, like an internet browser for example, everyone starts yelling "Monopoly! Monopoly!".

No, the problem is people don't understand all the reasons why people yell Monopoly(tm) all of the time. First off, its ok that a browser is bundled with the operating system, its fairly popular to do that. The problem is that the OS in question has become dependent upon that browser. When you hear Microsoft testify that IE can't be removed, they are somewhat correct. Microsoft *could* build an OS that didn't rely upon IE, and its technically possible to take IE out of Windows completely, and use other methods for showing help files and whatever else IE is used for. I can imagine its more possible when you also have the source code available to you =). You can bet that they will still be saying that its impossible to take IE out of windows 4 years from now..

I really don't see that as *too* bad of a thing anyway. What makes me think that Microsoft is a Monopoly is the contracts between them and OEM's. Lets go back 2 years. Company X is a fairly large OEM (think Dell, Compaq, etc), and they sell 10,000 PC's that year, and 9,000 of them had Windows preinstalled. The others were either other os's or nothing on them. Company X has to pay Microsoft for 10,000 Windows licenses.. Does that sound right? The list goes on and on in that area as well.

Microsoft has been found a monopoly. If you don't think its correct, then read the laws. If you don't agree, complain about the law, but they did break them plain and simple.

Sure, run a ton of simulations, im sure that some portion of them are going to come back as saying its bad in some respect. What do they do next? Give the computer a map of the storage facilities, and have it *simulate* where the bad ones are?

In my opinion they are up to more then just that.

Lets say we have 1000 nukes, that have been in storage for 10 years. You do a bunch of simulations, and they come back positive. You wait 5 years, you do some more test, and now it says that 5 are bad.

Now, we don't use nukes that often, in fact we have only used 2 bombs in war, as far as i know. If for some reason in the future, we need to use another nuke, would our government really rely upon a bunch of nukes that have been in storage for 15 years, and our best guess is 5 of them are bad. What if the one we pick is a bad one? What if they didn't simluate it, and the whole batch of nukes is bad, and we try to fire them, and we die because they are all duds and they come back and kick our ass. I really think the best way of doing this is dismantle the nukes we have and get it over with. If some country launches a nuke at us, or some other country, we're all fucked anyway so its not going to matter..
