So this is just going to confuse the end users more when they start the computer for the first time. I never understood how IE is such a big deal because it's included with Microsoft Windows. They don't forbid you from installing another browser, so what's the big deal? There are other reasons to hate MS.
But you do have a computer and the internet. So unless you're sending smoke signals to the town at the base of the mountain to transcribe your/. post, how disconnected are you?
I don't know about blinded, but damn that's super busy. Actually it's a pretty useless website that doesn't do anything but mumble some useless facts. They really should be shot for that.
On the downside, this review says the keyboard is lousy.
Yup. I got that from the first time they mentioned it in the summary.
But anyway. So I clicked on the link actually. And the review isn't really worth anything since they couldn't actually use the phone as, well, a phone. Looking at the picture of the keyboard, I have to agree that it would probably suck to use. And in my opinion that's a deal breaker. the buttons are really close together, but that's expected for such a narrow a phone. It probably should have had the keyboard come out to the side and use the phone in a landscape position. It's also quite apparent this guy is biased towards the Blackberry.
with having a standard in Linux at all. It doesn't have to be a just about GTK and QT either. They're both widget kits. Great. The standard has to start in the file system. Red Hat, for instance, worries about being backwards compatible with each update, as it should, but that means it broke the FSH to begin with. So migrating from RH to another Linux distro that may follow the FSH is difficult. Also, it makes installing things a pain sometimes. A few times I've had to edit a config file because it points to a web server in/srv/www but in reality my system may use/var/www/ or what have you. Just because open source is about choice, doesn't mean there shouldn't be a standard set.
Go ask one of your friends that knows nothing about computers except how to turn them on what browser they use, and I bet they'll say IE. People know what a browser is, they just don't know much about them. And maybe it's hard in this economic time right now, but Fire Fox I'm sure could afford an ad or two here and there.
I'm hoping this will make Fire Fox advertise a little more. A quick 30 second clip during a prime time show. There was a contest about 3 years ago but I don't know whatever came of it.
Yeah, I never saw the "much garnered" fanfare of the first app, so I wanted to see what it was about. I guess the Guardian and Wired links are about the first version of the app.
How is this worthy of front page news? It should be tucked in Idle. It's nothing about anything break through or even cool. It's just....well...I'm not sure what it is.
posted on/. a while ago. It's also up to OEM's if they offer this or or Windows 7 Home Premium. How many times will this story be posted to Slashdot? The last one was in February. Editors, surely you would have known something like this was posted before, with a better article.
What does having the monopoly on Windows (which really it isn't a monopoly since they in fact created the software so let them spread it) have to do with forcing an upgrade? You an still use XP if you want, you just don't get the support, much like Red Hat or Novell's EOL for their commercial linux distros. They're not saying you cannot use. Just that they won't support it. Microsoft has every right to obsolete Windows XP. What makes them evil is their bad practices.
Because eventually updates are going to go away. And Hardware is going to break and hardware manufacturers are not going to devote the resources to writing the drivers for the new features on printers or scanners or whatever for XP.
It got an ovation, great. But are they allowing anyone to release any reviews? Was some of the ovation left over from the shock of what the actual movie was?
I dunno. I suppose it could be. I guess I define blog as in someone voicing their opinion and only posting what they want w/ no input. Maybe that's why I hate blogs so much. I consider/. a more of a news site.
From wikipedia:
Slashdot, sometimes abbreviated as/.,[1] is a technology-related news website owned by SourceForge, Inc.
Viewing porn, without saving it on your drive, would be in violation of MANY companies rules of conduct. Posting on blogs, weather it be something bad about your company or just blogs in general, also are usually a violation.
Over the weekend, the Web site Deadline Hollywood Daily reported that Mr. Friedman had been dismissed. Sure enough, on Sunday came a revised statement from the News Corporation. "When we advised Fox News of the facts," the statement said, "they promptly terminated Mr. Friedman."

I think they're stretching.

And yet, still a fail.
See if you can find a cheap screen replacement on Ebay.

Here is a review of using the Starter Edition. Including some things that don't count against the app count.
This may help.

Antivirus is excluded from the app count.

Hmm. Maybe I should have worded that a little better.
I think you missed the fine point of the article.

I thought you meant before any court proceedings.
