Wow, this was like a XXX is dying troll! How long have you had that one saved up on your hard drive? Did you even read the article or the blurb?? This is something to PROTECT consumer rights, not restrict them!
The perfect Slashdot story - just throw the masses a MS bone and watch the predictable +5 Funnys show up.
I think it's a good idea. Honestly. There are security flaws in Windows, yes. There are also security flaws in Linux. (ptrace recently). A lot more people are using Windows, there has got to be a decent chance that more security flaws will be exploited.
I didn't learn anything about secure coding in school. I'm sure there are many experts at MS on writing secure code. And at least the organization as a whole is *trying*. I'm sure they can write more secure code than me, and definitely have some advice that will help programmers down the road. Mod me down if you like, but I say give the MS bashing a rest and consider the merit behind the idea. How much do YOU know about writing secure code?
It was already released via Software Update. See here. And I think it wasn't finished when they released it - it broke some applications HUGELY. Here is a wonderful description of my favorite known issue from the Release notes:
Radar #3160445
Apparent random crashes of Java applications.
Some applications that use Java2D can crash unexpectedly with a crash log that specifies a failure in Java_apple_awt_CRenderer. This is a known issue and is being investigated.
Third, if Apple optimizes the OS X kernel for the Itanium, the likelihood of the Apple OS being ripped off by normal PC users is nil.
Can someone please decode what he was trying to say here? I have no idea. Ripped off? Like piracy? Because no one uses Itanium? It's not like Apple would be using completely Intel/PC-based architectures and just running their software on it! Or does he mean copying the kernel? The kernel is completely open source, no?
Actually I thought those were very good questions. Better than the crap you get from Slashdot interviews. (What do you think of xxxx? (where xxxx has nothing to do with why we are interviewing you))
The question about intruding on the relationship between Frodo and Sam was very good.
Hahah! The length of that rant and the shortness of that reply was beautiful.
I didn't figure this out for months either. I never opened the CD that came with my iPod because Music Match sucks hardcore. Later I realized I didn't know about certain features that everyone else did. So I opened up the little case and there was a tiny manual.
One other tidbit I learned in there - hold down Menu to turn on the backlight.
I just checked mine (I have never flashed the firmware) and it is stuck at that time too. I didn't change it because your post (and others) have scared me it will kill the battery life. I don't use the clock anyway. So maybe if you never set it, or Reset the iPod at some point or something like that. Just wild speculation.
Personally I think it's better than watching CNN. At least you get something other than constant towing of the Dubya line. Like links to Indian news sites from the last story, or links to the Iraqi guy's blog. Don't read if you don't want to.
I found that extremely interesting to compare with the British one. I'm neither British nor American but I found the British speech to be much more inspiring. I found it to be more compassionate and less filled with nationalism and self-congratulation. Very interesting.
I'm not sure about that. If you make it plainly obvious how to avoid sharing your own files, people will quickly turn that off and you'll get a bunch of leeches. If you obfuscate it somewhat like most current P2P programs do, and make it scan your hard drive on first install then your average user just forgets about it. I'm not saying it's good or right, but I think that's probably the way it is.
I fully agree! Try minimizing your browsing window, go do some work, come back in 5 mins... it takes a painfulllly long time to swap back in. It was faster launching the app the first time! That is my main pet peeve with Mozilla.
Sounds like someone is bitter about not getting an internship. I am on one right now, getting paid amazingly well, and have an implicit offer to come back and work for this company after I graduate. I can get the job done, even as an intern. It's not like anything you learn in school is very relevant to the work place. What's there to complain about - it's a win-win situation. Internship is a great idea.
Calling it co-op or internship just usually depends on your university. I go to Univerity of Calgary in Canada and we call them internships. I think it often relates to the length - our internships are 16 months and we have just one after your third year. Waterloo calls theirs co-ops and they are 4 months, and you do them every other semester. I've heard (may be propaganda) that U of C has the largest internship program in Canada, and Waterloo has the largest Co-Op.
If it's for working and not for playing, what's with all the RPGs! ;)

Gameboy Advance SP( 83 400 results) vs. Canon Powershot G3( 69 100 results)
The winner is: Gameboy Advance SP.
I guess we can trust the reviewier! He clearly know what he is talking about, in addition to being a scientist!
It would probably only upset a few of their customers who aren't upgrading anyway because they are overclocking.

So a national registry of license plates mapped to cell phones? Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Well, it was reported by a fairly reputable organization. No one linked to this for some reason.

Workaround: None.

What an idiot.

I think they linked to the wrong one. Here is today's eWeek story that says the explicit reason they are pushing back WWDC is to announce Panther.
Actually, I have no idea. I just wanted to say Boop, wrong as well and if I'm really lucky get modded up to +5 Informative as well.
Linux Kernel Mailing List here I come! Free money!
I think that's XP only. It doesn't do anything for me in 2K. Or maybe it's just not working. ;)

The Linksys stuff will be the stuff that doesn't work. ;)
Sorry, I'm bitter about the very poor performance of my Linksys AP/4port Router.
I found that this version made just as much sense as your linked version, but then IANAL.
That is fairly interesting - two whole processes! Thanks for making that nice and coherent for us all.
