You've been able to middle click on links to open them in a new tab for agessss. (Since before Moz 1.0)
The nice thing is middle-clicking on bookmarks to open them in a new tab. I don't know why that wasn't there from the beginning. Much appreciated Phoenix guys.
How can Word appear any faster at 3GHz? I would think that after 1.5GHz, improvement in performance would be hard to notice.
Well actually, you won't see a heck of a lot of difference in Word. Some software, like Photoshop or video-rendering software will benefit considerably.
PowerPC hasn't been just for Apple for quite some time, as evidenced by the 3930 hits for "Embedded PowerPC" on Google or the Embedded PowerPC Resources and Information page.
I recommend reading Peopleware by Tom DeMarco and Tim Lister.
These guys have some excellent insights into knowledge-based industries. Most of their examples are for software development. One of them is if you don't interact with clients/customers, there is no reason why you should need to dress up. The suit and tie will only distract you from the work you should be doing. You are less productive. Dressing up is more about asserting management's authority than anything else.
Can someone please explain why this is a troll? Honestly.
I was being totally serious. If you don't have a use for some of the big commerical GUI based apps, you may not have a good reason to switch to OS X. Like if you are running a server or something like that. If you want/like apps like Photoshop/Office, you do have a reason to switch.
I guess I don't understand what a troll is. I just posted a fact.
What do you mean when you say "equivalent"? Obviously The GIMP is not good enough for graphics professionals. They use Photoshop.
OpenOffice can't format my Word.doc resume correctly. Does this mean I like MS Office? No, I do not. Does this mean I like their proprietary format? No, I do not. Would I dare send and OpenOffice XML formatted document to a potential employer? No, I would not.
Well, I'm assuming there are Unix geeks who want/need it or else developers wouldn't have spent countless of hours writing The GIMP. I don't know of a Illustrator "equivalent". Any suggestions?
As for Office. There is always the ability to open Word/Excel docs. Please don't say OpenOffice can do this, we both know there are many many documents it butchers.
If you are perfectly happy with your command line then stay with Linux/Unix. Switch to OS X if you want to be able to run Photoshop, Office, Illustrator, etc.
Are you sure it was even from a real person, or did they just find the email address?
I know a guy that got one of these and totally fell for it. There was no real person that sent the email. It goes without saying that he is an engineer.
This thing looks nice to you people? It looks like any other PC Laptop... ugly. Look at it! Why does everyone think it looks like a TiBook? Coz it's wide? It's got this ugly dark color! Two-tone? I'll pass.
These look very nice. Much better than the text based installer. But the biggest shortcoming of text based is dselect, IMHO. WHere are some screen shots of the package selection? That's the important part. I've known a few people who got through the paritioning, etc but then gave up at dselect.
Microsoft Corp. today announced revenue of $7.75 billion for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2002, a 26 percent increase over revenue of $6.13 billion for the same quarter last year. Operating income for the first quarter was $4.05 billion, compared to $2.90 billion in the same period last year. Net income and diluted earnings per share for the first quarter of fiscal year 2003 were $2.73 billion and $0.50, which included an after-tax charge for investment impairments of $291 million or $0.05.
For the redirect to google.ca there is a text link at the bottom that says "Google.com". Click it to go to the US site. Other countries probably have this too.
Ummmmm. The K-12 market is one of Apple's biggest. There are a proportionally larger percentage of Macs in lower education compared to almost any other market: Home, Business, etc.
Same with automotive technology early on; it doesn't mean anything.
Hardware computational technology has been advancing at an exponential rate LONG before the introduction of ICs (integrated circuits). There is no reason to believe it will stop now.
I'm convinced the reason behind it is that the typical Mac user is someone who is not very technical and was perhaps intimidated by using a computer, so when they figured out how to use their Mac they get a certain sense of pride and accomplishment which they in turn morph into zealotry.
I think you've got it wrong. I think the sense of community/bond between Mac users is for the exact same reason there is a strong Linux community: The extra steps it takes to get things the way you want them on your computer.
While I'm not suggesting Windows is superior in any way, most "common person" things are tailored for Windows. You have to work a bit harder to open that.doc, or someone sends you some stupid joke.exe, or you want to watch a RealPlayer movie or something like that. You have to seek out others on your platform who have done it first, and figure out how. There is a lot more communication and assistance in the community. I personally find Mac can be a bit better for this than Linux. Not to troll, but if you ask someone for Linux help on IRC or the like, wayyyy too often the response is "RTFM!!!"
"If you have 32-bit processor the the maximum amount of RAM you can have is 32Mb. With 64-bit processors you can have 64Mb of RAM and so everything is quicker."
LOL. I'm dying to know who modded that as insightful!
By extrapolation, I have a 512 bit processor coz I have 512 MB of RAM. Let me tell you, this baby flies!
OK I finally figured out how to get Gestures in Phoenix: (Preferences -> Themes and Extensions -> Extensions -> Get New Extensions)
But can anyone tell me how to configure them?? I want to use the middle mouse button instead of control+left button. Thanks!

NICE! Is this Patterson and Henessey?? It's a little too familiar.

Need the industry standard Office Suite? Try MS Office.
Need an Illustrator? Try the actual thing.
All this with that command line you know and love. He wanted a reason why someone would switch. There are a few.

Bash is the default in Jaguar. This must have been written on a 10.1 machine.
But then you will have a terrible love life for the next 7 years!!!

Now look at the TiBook. (QTVR) Much nicer.
This story confuses me, is it a troll or what?

Great idea! Let's abandon all Linux business software because Linux has a ridiculously low amount of installed base of business users.

Not rocking the boat?? How is Apple not going to MacWorld not rocking the boat?
