but i am not like that. i do not _not_ use windows because the apps and drivers etc dont install the exact same way, but more because of functionality. l00nix apps are FAR more functional. if windows was as configurable and stable is l00nix, believe me, i WOULD use it. but it isnt, so i don't use it.

in the place i work, the accountant was given a computer. she hadn't really used anything before. we put debain with mozilla for browsing and soffice for office junk, and she loves it. it DOESNT crash, it DOESNT hang, tabbed browsing is great, and star office is very usable for all office apps. no problems, no questions asked. and if there IS a problem, dont need to physically go to the machine and fix the problem. just ssh and export display. so, if you are a stale old geezer who doesnt want to change b/c he doesnt want to learn anything, fine, _we_ dont care, we are not going to force you. BUT, in schools and any place computers are introduced to people, l00nix should be used.

either way, the reason it was released is to release their OWN product on l00nix, and maybe SOMEONE will use it. and even if EVERYone is still using gcc, its competition. there is nothing competing with gcc. IF borland makes a kick ass compiler (address this later) and adds stuff that say, gcc, doesnt have, be it good ide (not for me, but w/e), or features, or good checking stuff like lint, etc....you get the point: its competition.

ok, so maybe kde and gnome are windows knockoffs, and i must admit i hate that. BUT, at the same time, that is what a lot of ppl want. i have a friend who is a linux newbie. i helped him setup everything veru gui, just like he wanted it. however, even though he seemed to be amazed by e, he wanted icons on his "desktop" (just like windows). now...for those of us who prefer just a terminal for all our needs, we use fvwm2 or the like or e for complete fancy gui control. but for those coming from windows, they WANT to have icons, and a "start" type m$ button.

although i personally hate it, a LOT of the people using gnome and kde are pleased to see a "familiar" environment. hehe, remember when /. posted that linux was hard to learn for kids because of a difficult to learn and unfamiliar environment? (and this is for people who had NEVER used windows) well, those ppl, although obvious linvocates, were biased towards a windows look and feel.

but they are saying that the vacuum energy of the inside of the gravistar would match that of the meaasured universe (for a large universe sized gravistar) THAT MAKES NO SINCE! WHAT then is inside the gravistar. something that has much lower energy (60 magnitudes worth) than even vacuum. they can't even figure out how much vacuum energy the universe has, let alone a gravistar in some odd BEC quantum state.
