  1. Re:Peace on Protecting Cities from Hijacked Planes · · Score: 1

The only question is how well can this be implemented and it will only work if all the sizeable planes use this technology. If only american planes have it, and a terrorist hops aboard an Air France plane, what good is it?

Which is the reason for multiple levels I guess. If the "soft wall" doesn't stop them, a couple missiles from an anti-aircraft battery certainly will.

Which kind of makes me wonder, DCA (Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport) is basically in the middle of DC, rather close to the Pentagon, White House, Capitol, etc, so the air traffic pattern almost certainly goes over/near some crucial buildings.

How can a soft wall be used for this, and then have missiles for back up if everything is so close. Maybe in this case, they'd have to use a "not so soft wall", and then missles if a certain air space is breached.

Those missiles could mean bad, bad news for stupid/newbie pilots, an accident waiting to happen. The problem is, a small prop plane could be loaded down solid with c4, or worse, a nuclear warhead, so it can be as much of a threat as the big planes.

Usually that means that the widescreen version has been redited to fit on a normal tv screen without the black bars at the top and bottom.

Yet another editing technique I hate. Sometime you lose valuable information because they chop the sides off. Say, for example, there's a scene where one person is on the far left of the screen and another is on the far right of the screen. There's no way I spend $20 a month on video rentals now, so subscribing to Netflix would lock me into spending more money than I current spend on rentals. I really don't rent that many movies. A lot of my friends have nice DVD collections, so I borrow from them, and they borrow from me. For $20/mo, I'd rather buy a new dvd every month that other people can borrow and watch, and then I own something in the end.

That annoys the shit out of me. What the fuck is it with people here in the States that makes them so afraid of seeing naked people? BUT THE CHILDREN MIGHT SEE. It's the soccer moms doing it, I'm telling you...

It's not so much that they cut the naked people out. It cutting ANYTHING out of the movie without telling me. I want to see the movie the way the director intended it. Which is why I'm a big fan of director's cuts that have more footage, a lot of times extra scenes that add a LOT to the movie. I hate it when someone high up cuts this and this out to get the pg-13 rating which means bigger sales.

Screw that. Movies are an art form. I don't go to a museum and expect to see black bars on all the naked statues and paintings, do I? I fail to see the difference.

All depends on where you live. I live in a relatively small town in Ohio and I can get time warner cable tv/cable modem, or the local goverment run cable tv/cable modem. Interesting enough, I can get digital Time Warner cable tv with all the pay channels AND road runner internet service for $72/mo. What's the price for all this if I live one town over? $180-190/mo or so I hear, as no I know would actually order all that shit at that price, but that's what the local Time Warner salesmen tout.

Me? I choose the local cable company out of spite, and it's comparable pricing anyway, maybe you don't get all those channels, you don't get digital cable, but I don't need all that shit, as I don't watch much TV, besides, they offer a business grade cable modem service with better upload, which is very important to me since i work from home.

The local town here also runs it's own eletric company, and buys eletricity in bulk from Ohio Edison. The result? Our eletricity costs 1/3 of neighboring communities.

I've often wordered if it would be possible to write say 3 separte levels of "on" to magnetic or optical media. So you'd have data written to the media say in base 4, off, low powered on, medium on and full on. Instead of just having "on" or 1. That way you should be able to store more data per space instead of just 0's and 1's. I dunno it may be impossible, for cdr's you'd need a laser that could reliably burn diferent levels of intensity into the cdr, and another laser that sensitive enough to determine how strong of a signal is burn into the cd to determine if it's a 1 2 or 3.

I dunno, it may be impossible for something like say cdroms, but may be more feasible for magnetic media, (the direction of the magentization could determine the number), or maybe for some yet undiscovered data storeage technology.
