I seriously doubt that you got the point. The whole point of this library is not the Widgets. The library itself offers you ways to write your own widgets.

    * A standard way to do Ajax.
    * A way to have your own events.
    * A way to do positioning. (moving objects)
    * A way to do animation.
    * All that in one - three lines of code.

Include the library and call the methods. Simple. How difficult would it be to implement a graphical color picker be wheh you have the slider already implemented for you? And if its well written and you make it avaliable as BSD licence why will yahoo/others not use that rather then writing their own?

That is the point of releasing the libraries. So that the best solutions become the standard. Its not nessesiraly a one way (Yahoo -> us) process.

Google Ads are an eye sore. Its the most ugly thing to ever hit the web. They dont put any ads on their website but put those ugly text adv's on almost all of the websites in the world.

whats so cool about it? how is it cool? it's not cool. it's google. The fact remains, there's something attractive about anything google does ... in time, it'll lose the charm and something new will come to replace it. Google has that *thing* ... like coke and pepsi because google has managed to retain that 'underdog' feel.

I have never seen anthing intresting in their *contextual* ads.

I dont know whats the big deal. its weak looking interface ... the voice feature is avaliable only on windows. even skype is better than this. Yahoo has all these features and more.. avtars for example.

Its just a case of one company making people go gaga about its products. its a same crappy IM with a protocol that has been around for 4 years. when jabber came out no one was excited because it was an intiative on the parts of some open source developers.

now google does it and somehow its cool. I really dont get it. its stupid to the point of being painful.

How ironic! the Internet is designed to circumvent problems and survive anything that any kind of catestrophy throws at it. I guess the problem is not if the "Internet" is reliable for 911 services but, if the last mile service provider and the software you work with is reliable. If your phone gets stolen or your kid bangs it on the ground its not atnt's problem similarly if you got hit by a worm is a problem you should handle.

I think the Internet is perfectly suited for emergency contact services ... we are just haven't gotten our act together on the "last mile" part. The figuering out where the call originated is not that tough nut to crack.
