And they want to scare of the parents as well. A part of the program is a take home and fill-out-together letter to the parents.
I personally am not a parent, but if I were, I believe I would be pulling my child out of these classes. When did schools become a lobbying forum for corporations? Was it when Coke and Pepsi started battling over who gets the lucrative lunchroom contract? (gotta get the kids hooked early and turn them into "consumers", it's their patriotic american duty) I doubt it will happen, because most people are sheep, but I would really like to see some outrage by the parents. What gives the *AA's the moral ground to stand on and come into the schools, and tell our nations children what is right and wrong. Last time I looked they represented money driven/hungry companies, and I cannot even think of a company anymore to which I can point and say, look, now there's a stand up company who's always done the right thing, and I'm proud to support them.
Parnets, make some noise, and don't sit by while your children are being "educated" by the united corporations of America.
Sure, I'm entirely confident that the good people at Verisign know what's best for the ineternet... why don't we get the good folks of Enron to manage our national debt?
I ran into this same problem w/ sprint. I moved out to the suburbs, and they assured me my cell phone would have great service in that area. When i actually tested it out there, I got nothing, I mean nothing, I even tried roaming and got no signal. So I started hassling them, and tried to cancel the contract (w/out incurring the penalty). After several months of complaints I got the tech guys to agree w/ me, and then called up the cancellations number. the woman had the audacity to tell me "We don't guarantee your phone to work at your home sir." Well, where the hell do they guarantee it? right under the damn towers???
...there were some people who were terrible cheats. This was at a university that's consistently ranked among the top 5 in the UK...
It's funny, I TA'd a course at a top 5 US school (think Cambridge, MA, not MIT) and I had two students cheat. Talk about terrible. One marked out all of his answers, then blatantly copied the other one's WORK AND ANSWERS, including the mistakes that were scratched out. to top it all off, they turned them in at the same time (ie right next to each other's in the stack of papers), talk about being beyond easy to spot. It's kind of pittiful that if they're at such a prestigious school, and can't even cheat intelligently... I gave 'em both zeros btw, and asked the prof to fail 'em. But being the schhol that it was, they both got A's...
I personally fail to see how it is some great inconvenience to have telemarketers calling you every so often
I've been sitting at home sick today (reading/. of course!) but between 10-3 I've had no less than 5 telemarketers call. When I didn't answer the phone, and the machine picked up, the bastard had the temerity to leave a 2minute long message. I don't have a delete button on the machine (cheap one) so to get it off there I had to listen to the whole thing.
slight inconvience my ass....
I would NEVER work for a telemarketing firm. I'd lay bricks, or do carpentry, or mow lawns.
I dunno, but I'd sure as heck like to find out. I was a bit hesitant to sign up at the beginning because of this very possibility. I don't think it's a covert scheme or anything, but the question is, have the lists already been sent out to telemarketers, and if so, can they legally use those numbers?
having been through two hurricanes, Andrew in '92, and Fran in '97, I have a feel for what kind of damage they can cause. You've got several ??'s tho. One, are you just managing your office infrastructure? Are you having to keep a website and server up?
If you're just dealing w/ your office data and infrastructure: make sure you have backups make sure you have a backup source of power for anything critical move everything to an enclosed room w/ NO windows turn off the power before you get hit. When transformers explode, you tend to get power spikes, and in a hurricane, you get lotsa lightning and let's be honest, you probably won't need extra power, if you get hit hard, no one is probably gonna be at work till the power is back on, and alot of cleanup has happened.
If you have to keep a website up:
Don't fsck around, move it to a "safe" location away from the path of the storm, it's simple, easy, and one quick solution.
WTF? I started out at +3 insightful, and now am at 0 insightful? wassmatta? you couldn't think of anything useful to say so you just modded me down based on your own inability to deal w/ your lack of an SUV or PENIS? fine, come on then, mod this one down too:) i don't care, I got Karma to spare.
I agree w/ just about everything you said. I consider myself to be in the 1% who actually need/use an SUV. I owned an SUV before they were even called an SUV. My old vehicle got better gas mileage than some cars on the road. I've gotten more and more upset at the people who buy navigators, or chevy subdivisions and they're fucking spotless. I hike and climb alot, and I'm also out in bad weather on a regular basis, so I actually need these things for climbing up an unpaved mountain trail to get to a good spot. My argument is that if you own an SUV, you should be required to have a higher class of license (somewhat expensive) which is demanding as hell to get. Then we wouldn't have people making up for their lack of driving skills by buying the largest friggin thing on the road.
Pet Peeve #843289:The fact that ALL SUV owners have a canned speech to rationalize the fact that they needed to buy their overpriced penis extension.
Pet Peeve #843290 The fact that all NON-SUV owners have a canned speech to rationalize the fact that becuase they don't need one, no one else does either.
dude, all you have to do is don't answer, ignore the call. If they know you, they'll leave a message, if not, screw 'em. This is what I do, and I haven't had to talk to a telemarketer on my cell for over a year.
Do you like the fact thar your grocery store sells your purchasing habits to other parties if you sign onto their "membership" to get the "member discounts"?
SURE! As far as they know, I'm a 60 year old Innuit woman from Faibanks. Or at least that's what my signup form says...
you have a point about people making illegal copies and getting their product for nothing, but...
1) The recording companies have been convicted of pricefixing and keeping the cost of cd's inflated.
2) Their numbers are suspect at best. I can't remember where it is, but I've read several reports that shows similar declines in "sales numbers" for other industries since the bottom fell out of the economy.
3) Mp3's are not perfect copies. They're pretty good, but not perfect.
4) Many people use file trading services to determine if an album is any good before they go buy it.
5) Many customers only want the music, not the CDs (I myself fall into this category) and until recently (iTunes) there have been no good online music content providers.
6) Why do consumers have to pay a tax on CD-Rs, to "combat online piracy", when they may use the media for anytything, not necessarily on burning copies of illegally downlaoded songs?
My point being there are always going to be pirates, Always, but they are not doing themselves any good with the methods they have chosen to combat it. They're in the digital age, they need to figure that out, and give theit customers what they (the customers) want, and not try to shove what they want us to have down our throats.
\end rant
did I make any sense, or am i still suffering from lack of caffienation?
But it's not like the U.S. government is going to purchase bulk copies of Britney just to keep the RIAA afloat.
agreed, but as long as corporations are the largest means of election funding, that's who the politicians will cater to. And it may not be in the form of purchasing, I'm sure they'd rather just have some kind of cash handout where they don't actually have to produce anything. They've taken a giant step in that direction by pulling an SCO, suing/extorting money from anyone and everyone they can. And the next step is, when people stop buying cd's, and they have no one left to sue, help us Uncle Sam! All so a couple of suits can keep their house in the Hamptons, and their ferarri (sp?) insured.
But not for corperations. People are free to not buy you products. They don't buy your stuff, you don't make money. You don't make money, you go out of bussiness.
Unfortunately, in the united corporations of america, all you have to do is go to your local congresscritter, tell them, we're losing money becuasse people are downloading songs instead of buying them, and they prop up your failing business model.
you've heard of subsidies for farmers? welcome to the world of subsidies for failing corporations
which would be nice, but the *AAs will never let that happen. People would never need a duplicate movie, CD, whatever as long as your provider doesn't fold. They would lose control, and they've shown they'll stop at no cost to make sure that doesn't happen.
besides the point, a perfectly clean/organized TV area is the sign of a sick, sick mind;)
I don't like only being able to watch it for 24 hours, give me lifetime viewing for 15$ then we're talking.
$15? at that point, why not just go out to walmart and buy the DVD? yeah, you have to go there and get it, but you have the original which you can just rip?
Giant EMP'S!
Tell me Mr. Anderson, what good is an mp3 if you have nothing to play it on?

Maybe not as current as we'd like?
did they just wake up one day and decide, "we've been the best for a long time now, why don't we find some ways to really suck for a while?"
holy sh1t!!! gotta do a quick check on the EULA that came w/ my underwear!
