Asinine comments like this is why Sun is down in the dumps. Instead of pontificating on stuff they don't know what they're talking about, why don't they get back to building great hardware at a great price. Sun needs a management shakeup from McNealy on down. My PowerBook is MY computer, not my flipping cell phone.
I think you can blame the reliance on Windows. I find the same thing. If it isn't point and click or Windows, you can bet the IT department is going to say not supported.
Not to buy their product! I hope the RIAA goes out of business. In the meantime the governments of the world should band together and prosecute this cartel as a criminal racketeering organziation and throw their executives in prison! Bastages!
The development version of OS X on x86 is Apple's property. That equipment is leased to developers. If you're hacking it you're nothing but a pirate at worst, and breaking your contract with Apple at best.
Wrong! Daimler-Benz (which owns Mercedes Benz) bought Chrysler to create DaimlerChrysler. The previous CEO of the Chrysler division was a Daimler-Benz guy who has been tapped to be CEO of the parent corporation, DaimlerChrysler.
The latest Airport Express firmware is supposed to allow this. I just don't feel like reconfiguring my wireless network right now. I have two Airport Express's that make up my wireless network. The one connected via WDS is in a back bedroom.
Until I reconfigure it, I'm using WEP and not broadcasting the SSID.
Since when does Apple have to cater to the whims of the Wintel community? The Apple systems this mouse works on all have USB. If your PC doesn't have USB, either fix it or don't get the mouse. Either way, quit your whining Wintel users about Apple not doing what you want. You aren't their market!
I bet you go to Church also. Let me guess . . . Catholic ? I'm guessing Catholic because your ilk likes to use the work "heirarchy" like it's a good thing.
This comment is out of line. How it got modded interesting I don't know.
So what you are saying is that if someone lookes creepy, they should be arrested by any means possible.
At a minimum, I want said creep to be stopped and questioned. I'll trust the beat cop's instincts any day over your anything goes attitude.
Since when is it frbidden to park outside somebodies house? (I am afraid somebody has an answer to that)
You park outside my house and act creepy, I can guarantee you there will be a cop paying a visit to you very quickly. Suspicious behavior is going to bring you to the attention of the police very quickly.
If you don't like it, don't be stupid and do something you can reasonably assume is going to bring the police down on you. If you don't like that, you are free to leave the area. As a homeowner I'm free to keep the front of my house a creep-free zone.
Linux this, Linux that. When are people here going to realize that the majority of consumers could care less about Linux. They want to use their "thing" they buy. They could give one whit, what OS it is running. Apple delivers that experience to them. Until some company realizes that you are missing the mark. I'm perfectly happy with my iPod and PowerBook. I don't have to fiddle with the system to get stuff done, like I do with Linux (on the desktop).
I'll stick with my Blackberry and Cingular. For my usage the Blackberry is best (standing around waiting for flights knock out a few emails, etc.). Plus, I can hop of the plane in the UK and be online.
You don't have to choose between Office and Appleworks, since there is a native Office for Mac OS X today, and MS has stated they will support on Macintel.
Because they are still good machines and will be supported for a long time. Why hold your needs hostage if those machines solve them now? I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to make a switch to the Mac line on rev 1 of the Macintel machines. I just switched to a PB 15" in Feb. and am actually pleased that I just did it as opposed to a year or two ago.
Had I switched a year or two ago, I would be at my normal refresh point when the new Macintel machines start coming out and would feel a little internal pressure that might cause me to blaze a trail on the first rev of the new line. Having just switched, that isn't going to be a problem for me.
I find it interesting that people allow things like this to hold up buying decisions. The fact is there are always technology shifts going on. Why not get a PowerPC now if you need it, and then you can jump in to the Macintel waters on your own timescale?
Get a clue, Apple could care less what you think. You are not their market. Go ahead and stay planted in 2005. Personally, I could care less. I deal with computers enough at work. At home I just want it to work. When my new PB 15" is ready to be replaced, I'll stick with Apple. Screw tinkering on Linux at home.
I've ripped my entire CD library (collected since 1986). I use LAME VBR and my 40GB Gen3 iPod has 14.5 GB on it. I have no plans to purchase music through iTunes.
I would say yes. By making the hardware, they have a controlled install base which enables the software to be rock solid. Part of MS's problem is they need to support every piece of x86 hardware out there plus legacy support. That makes their task that much more difficult. Apple on the other hand, doesn't and can in fact declare hardware platforms end-of-support, so that takes care of the legacy issue.
I recently switched my home PC to a maxed out 15" PB in Feb. I love it. However, forgetting the OS's for a moment and strictly comparing hardware, I think the PB is superior to my Dell D800 (my work laptop). The PB is one solid machine (as in I can carry it in one hand without the display flexing). So, I personally think Apple hardware is of much better quality than Dell. I have no experience with IBM laptops, so YMMV.
Since my laptop is my office machine, it goes where I go. I take the appropriate measures to secure my laptop at all times. As far as physical security goes, since I'm a field employee, my backpack is my office. I always keep the backpack in my presence.
So, how do you Google Talk behind a firewall that is only set to proxy port 80 and 443? GMail has no such problem.

Yes, that is definitely cool. Works much like Spotlight.
At this point... WRONG!

Chill out. This is supposed to be a technical discussion, not an opportunity for you to spew your venom and vitriol.
Yup, cash is king. Profits are the only thing that matter. Unfortunately most people lose sight of this, and chase revenue, no matter the cost.
Engineers = people who make stuff work
MBA's = people who manage Engineers
Retarded 5 year olds = executive management (i.e. CEO's) who manage MBA's
Pay increases as you lose your brain too.

Interesting that you mention CyberTowers and CyberCities, as I noticed the same in Seoul when I was recently there.
Way cool. When my PPC PB 15" is ready to be replaced with a new Intel one, I can repurpose it with a Polaris load. Very nice.
