When companies like Apex, simply ignored the Region coding stuff, they sold like hotcakes... So I plan on doing the same thing, simply ignoring the flags (or whatever they end up being), manufacturing my units in some country the US can't touch (say China), and making a fortune...
What part did I mess up? I must have missed something... This seriously is too good to be true... I'm gonna be rich!!!
Half the time I don't risk upgrading the firmware on my devices cuz I don't trust the engineers didn't mess something up (and they're always labeled beta... but I give up...)... How the hell am I supposed to trust they won't implement some other backdoor feature in their firmware?
They've gone so far as to generate traffic to their homepage to advertise crap, what's keeping them from simply redirecting your Outgoing data to some IP address on their networks, for anonymous data collection or some other BS, which you agree to in their 4 million word EULA that you have to click yes to before installing this patch?
Your argument is flawed. I am not forced to look at ads on billboards, or even tv... I am forced to listen to you yelling buy my product, and a boombox, etc...
The difference with pop-up ads, is they are unwanted, and cannot be ignored... If I go to a website with pop-ups, and I don't like them, I can never come back... but with this pop-up advertising, they were there, without any action on my part, and directly interrupted me.
Most geeks can't get a date with the pimply faced, slightly overweight girl in his English class... What the hell are we doing holding a competition for them where they get to design the 'perfect' woman... They don't even know what the perfect woman should be... Totally Hypocritical Contest...
I work for Apple and am therefore posting anonymously. While this was done on purpose, it was buy a sole developer, and not a decision by Apple. That developer has since been let go.
Bullshit! If that was the case, iTunes would have immediately been 'fixed' to stop that behaviour, and/or a patch released.
Being a Canadian, I have no choice but to use piracy... there is no legal way to buy music online in Canada...
And HMV marks every CD they have as 'imported', and jacks up the price to $45. I have tried to buy music online from all the major new online music stores... no luck... so I'll continue to pirate (since I'm already paying a piracy tax on all recordable media, I'm legally entitled too... I love stupid politicians...)
This is scary stuff... anyone can get any domain pulled with a little accusation?
We need to secure the domain registration/ownership process... seriously... We might not be able to take down microsoft.com, but with this complaint technique, I'm sure we could do some damage to a lot of less high profile companies... We need to get this fixed now! It's almost as bad as being allowed to call your neighbour a terrorist, and have him/her arrested indefinetly, with no proof...
Oh, I agree with you 100%, this could be a useful device... but not a standalone device... I can't use it easily to enter notes or read them for that matter, it's great to transport data, and in a pinch, be able to read it (although it's not easy by the looks of it, too high a resolution in too small an area will result in fonts that are painfully small, or not enough screen space at a decent dpi)
I don't see how this is any better than a USB key chain thingy with an LCD... I can't use it for anything but a transport medium... sure, it's form is closer to a credit card... that's about all the positives I see for this device compared to a USB key chain device.
I was thinking of a different scam I ran across... This one is still pretty transparent though, considering that AOL (and every other ISP I know) clearly state time and time again that they will never ask you for your password, credit card info, hell, even your name in an email.
Really... We have just charged your credit card for 19.95... if you want to cancel the transaction, enter your card number, full name, and expiry date below...
With the same logic, phone someone up, and tell them that if they don't want to be 0wN3d, they should disable their firewall, and tell you their IP address...
The darwin award exists for those who kill them selves in stupid ways... we need to invent an award for idiots that fall for obvious scams like this.
How the hell did they draw that conclusion? Seriously, even more interesting is how do they calculate viewers? Or better still, the popularity of a show?
I was reading a few months back that this season is the best in 10+ years, etc... Who the hell came to that conclusion, and based on what data? There is only one single new show I like (Las Vegas, on NBC), and even that is just better than average, not amazing, all the other stuff on primetime is crap! And all networks (FTA or Cable/Sat only) are simply taking an existing show and putting it back out with a new name, and new cast. Fox's OC is 90210 rehashed, Countless Reality shows, etc... even Discovery and TLC are dropping to new lows... How many Monster 'fill in the blank' shows can they produce... it's novel if it's a single show, not when it's 10.
I'm willing to bet that if I went to a major city, and asked 100 random people in a shopping mall to rate this season's TV, it wouldn't come close to the reported 'amazing new season, best in 10 years' crap that came from all the previews in August. Of course viewing is at a record low, that's obvious, the fact that execs are surprised and need to find something to blame is surprising... There is only so long that you can keep telling yourself it's not shit, but eventually you do taste it... These execs are dumber than I though possible.
So at what point does his 'rocket' become a mistaken intercontinental ballistc missle threat for North Korea? I just know some country will use this as an excust to test their own 'backyard rockets', only to result in accidental off course situations over japan...;)
You found it didn't you? It failed... congratulations, you have somehow circumvented the government's website security system, prepare for the wrath of the DMCA, backed by none other than Bush himself!
Well either that, or it's simply preventing search engines from indexing honeypot type pages used for mis-information... Either or... but I like the first version... since it's more paranoid, and I have plenty of tinfoil ready to be shaped into hats...;)
For normal people who want a normal PC, yes. For hobbyists who want to turn ye old derelict piece 'o junk into a nice PC, no. Think outside the box.
Mini-ITX boards have the CPU soldered on, you can't turn your old piece of junk into a nice PC... you can buy a replacement... and at that point, unless you really like the small form factor, you're really pissing away money (and yes, I am one of those people who does piss away money, so I can see a relatively large market here)... but my point is, if you want a PC replacement, than sure this is an option (pricey and non-expandable, but an option)... on the other hand, I've dealt with companies that used these boards to control motors on industrial machines, etc... there are much better solutions out there, but people keep using PC's... I think I am thinking outside the box... it's the people who think a PC is *THE* solution to every problem that need to think outside the box... or case..;)
Mini ITX is great... really... I mean, for $2000 I can build myself a Mini-PC that is kick ass (well, shitty video card, ac97 audio, integrated LAN), but if I spend $1000, I can have a kick ass PC, with the ability to expand it in the future!!!
It's a PC for crying out loud... you need something small and powerful, by a custom solution... what is it with constantly trying to adapt an x86 architecture to solve all the real world problems out there? Whether you agree or not, the x86 is a PC solution, stop putting them in pagers, phones, cars, and whatever else...
Mini ITX is crazy, it prevents you from customizing the PC the way most PCs can be. You have limited space for expansion slots, logistical problems with cooling, and adding storage/optical drives, and in the end the damn thing runs the same OS as your desktop, and is used the same way... WHY??? There is a reason for the need of a small computer, and damnit, there is always a better more economical and practical solution than stripping an x86 to fit the criteria.
Am I the only one that doesn't want a PDA/Cell Phone/Camera/Portable Toaster in one?
I really like the idea of combining certain technologies, but this is crazy... I don't want a device that does tons of stuff half assed, I want a bunch of devices that kick ass. I want a 5.0 MegaPixel camera, 1.1 is useless for real photography, which is why I'd want to carry around a digital camera. The conversion of technologies leaves me with a bunch of sorta useful stuff that isn't really as good as the individual specialized devices they try and replace. Am I of a dying breed? Do consumers no longer want high quality instead of small multi-functional?
Now, I realize that it's my own darn fault for running an OS from the last century, but why is iTunes only available for Win2000 and WinXP? It seems odd to me that something as simple as a media player/music store portal wouldn't be backwards compatible to Windows 98.
Simple, they created a kernel mode driver to handle their DRM, and a whole whack of functionality. If you write a kernel component for 2k, it'll work fine on xp, but if you also need to make it work on the old 9x kernel, a complete re-write is in order. That's a lot of man hours for an OS that even MS doesn't support any longer.
In other words, the UI would be pretty easy to port from 2k/xp to 98, but the supporting driver/kernel component(s) are not.
I remember all the formulae moving around on the screen as they wor worked out. -That show taught me algebra, geometry and calculus through physics before I was in 5th grade.
Ah yes, but it obviously didn't teach you spelling... Although intuition works for most of the show's demonstrations, your intuition failed you when you tried to sound out the word 'were.';)
This is just like poker... And IBM finally called... now SCO is gonna have to lay down the cards or fold... Either way... we all win! :)

Anyone know where I can buy a tinfoil hat?
Didn't MS agree to stay the hell out of the chip making business in order to be lovey-dovey with Intel and their specs?
How's Intel taking the news?
But if I use that browser, I can't gain access to MSDN, which I need for workin'...

Or are these getting too small to be useful? Really, if I need to read info off it, and more importantly enter info into it, it's just too dang small.
