Not to mention nobody must be allowed to make copies of the content... This is probably turning into a bigger DRM-issue than any company would invest in keeping it's workers happy..
I guess to make a patch 120 MB you must be using a rather specially-crafted version of patch... unless they actually replace the whole file that's borked..
All depends on where you live, check out Scandinavia where cellphones are really skyrocketing... The adventure of prepaid phones allows people of any age to carry a phone without running up any bills (phones are cheap, and all the kids do anyway is send SMSes which are relatively cheap).
It's not unusual for kids to get phones right around turning double-digits...
However Jello Biafra does have a brain, he thinks of his material himself...
The scriptkiddies don't, my estimate is that 80% of the scriptkiddies write stuff on the defacements that they don't even understand them selves, let alone the long-time results that another war would impose on the Iraqi-population...
Yep thats a smart thing, now you'll have people doing 70mph down the freeway swearing at their phone for suggesting the wrong letters when they try to type in the licenceplate infront of them! As talking on the phone wasn't bad enough, people trying to read/write SMSes while driving is even worse..
but it'll be dark everytime you shake it to kingdom come, if your quick enough you'll stop shaking just before the light comes back and nobody will see what you did to make it shine;-)
A lot of work on your computer doesn't require your full attention or you just sit around and wait for something to head your way (that's when most people pull up serverlogs or similar and start watching people browsing p0rn) a little window with a TV-picture in it is pretty cool... How ever this box more or less takes over your screen so it kinda defies my interest in combining TV&PC...
But the question here was companies patenting their whole product, I don't hold anything again google if they patent a particular piece of technology that makes up parts of their search engine, but when (it seems to me like) they're trying to blanket ban everybody else from constructing a searchengine similar to google, it's wrong!

There are loads of examples of companies making almost single products that doesn't patent their work. Patenting stops growth, the PC wouldn't have taken of unless other companies were allowed to start making IBM-compatibles (though it weren't completly IBMs will;-)
Look at the compact disc, the only successfull cross-media medium for the last 20 years, why ?

What if I yank out the powercord ?
How is the OS gonna cope with that, then I dissect your computer and connect your harddrive (including your swapspace) into my computer and find all the little pieces and nuggets of information that I need to fry your ass;-)
If you're skilled at OpenOffice it wouldn't take much energy for an educated person (that has gone to college/uni) to swap over to Microsoft Office.
It's not that big a difference, they both do the same things down the line. The Macrolanguage is different, but a little practice should let a person that master one proficient master the other in notime...
There's a lot on that page that leaves stuff to be desired... IMHO the best way to convey information (which is basically what the web is *still* about, I hope) is not to have jumpy banners and moving animations all around the text the visitor is supposed to read...
