yes ill agre to that, but if im not running gnutella or some other p2p app, but i have ports open on my comp. they probe my computer/ports trying to get info. how is that any different from me running nmap and portsurfing on other peoples machines? (which could easily lead to problems with my ISP)
alot of home users with cabe/dsl don't have a firewall and are sharing folders with other machines on thire LAN. wouldn't probing(and possibly mounting) theire smb-shares in fact be to gain illegal access to data/resources ?
>One thing BayTSP's spider programs don't do is sit >at the Internet peering points sniffing all packets >as they go by. "That would be wiretapping, which is >illegal," he says. "All we do is go to the same >places any user could go, look at the same files >anyone else could look at, and we only probe the >ports on your computer that you have made public."
WTF? Awh come on? the logic is not strong in this one.
im not from north-america(scandinavia actually), but i enjoy the bad acting of any star trek show( + TNG is pretty cool too). file swapping/capping/ripping/wathever will enable me to watch this episode in less than a week. so, yes, this is stuff that matters
... does this mean that if i put up a public computer somwhere. i could legaly sniff passwords and data because people using it could not expect privacy using my public computer?
ie. have we no expectation of privacy when using a computer on a network/ sending information over a computer network? knowing that a sysadmin could sniff the information? weak argument at best.

thoug microsofts security record is, well, slim at best. it's a little bit out of line to use every opportunity to mock them for theire* blunders. this article deals with consoles, and the editor managed to slip inn a little "and they also did..."

at my university they(the administration) has nearly autlawed any calculator that has soms sort of storage capabilities. we are no longer allowed to use our TI-89/HP-49's. instead we can use the HP-30s, with a nifty *two line*, with 50 or so characters, display. try debugging a laaarge algebraic expression with that thing. a gigant leap backwards
a group of programmers etc. in norway is working on theire own linux distribution called "skolelinux"(school linux) wich is tailored for norwegian schools. i think they are nearing a final release date

that was the naming of the kernel called linux, the kernel is called linux but the whole OS with glibc+++.. is what he is talking about. he makes some valid point's since many of the things in a GNU/Linux distribution comes from the GNU project. hence he thinks that the GNU project should get some credit for what is commonly refered to as linux(the name of the kernel) which is realy kernel + GNU
"Mouse Gestures"* the damn thing just becomes a habit real fast. have cought myself gesturing in galeon, konqueror and explorer. it also has a nifty hold down left/right button, click the other, and *bam*(back forward).

i don't think advertising will make the show any worse. but hey it's ST and and a bad script is required, and amusing.
