Perhaps I should clarify. Spending 3.4 million dollars of private research money to study teenager interaction? Fine. Spending 3.4 million of taxpayer money? Not fine. This should not be the role of government.
Considering that this bulb is 60x more expensive than the average CFL, and is only slightly more energy efficient, I have to wonder why anyone would bother. Compared to CFL's, at that price it will never payback in either energy savings or replacement costs.
Maybe it's new this year, but did my 1040 long, Sch A, etc totally free online. If you want the link between the "interview" and the actual tax forms you have to pay. But the e-filing and getting a PDF of your completed forms is free.
My state's website has online filing so did that for free too, just by entering a few numbers off the 1040.
They are a misc.deduction, so must exceed 2% of your AGI to be deductible Unless you have lots of other misc. deductions, most people won't be deducting the $20 they paid for tax software.
Trust me. If you know anything about how contractors write software for the federal government, you should be thrilled to know there are many excellent 3rd party software packages available for 20 bucks.
Not that there is anything wrong with using a simple spreadsheet to calculate your taxes, but the IRS generally doesn't audit people who are too cheap to shell out 20 bucks for tax software. They are looking for people with a bit deeper pockets.
If Turbotax is too expensive for you, try TaxAct. It was $20 to efile both state and federal this year.
Taxact is free if you use their online version, and you get free federal e-filing too. It even calculates your state payment/refund, but you have to pay if you want to print the forms or e-file.
I normally purchase their $20 deluxe+state version that you install, but opted for the free one this year. I was impressed at how well the web-based online version mimicked the PC version. Sure, it's not open source, but it's free and works great.
If some random company -- or some person who happens to work for a company -- is doing something legitimately cool, would you want to hear about it?
Then why not cover several companies doing similar technologies in the the same video? That would go along way toward making it seem less like an ad.
And it really doesnt matter if it's paid or not, the coverage benefits both slashdot and the company being spotlighted. Though OTOH, judging by the recent backlash, maybe the opposite is true.
"Asshole"? Really? My limited understanding is that he is an innocent person until found otherwise, no?
It is all too easy to cast allegations around. At this stage he is not an "asshole" but instead a wholly innocent person accused of serious crimes.
Why can't he be both. Based on his history, he sure sounds like an asshole. Asshole is not a legal standing. Whether he is guilty or not guilty of the crimes he's accused of is another matter entirely.
I worked on the fire alarm system for the Athlete's village and took those photos on-site. The system itself is a disaster and totally unsafe.
You probably should clarify that statement. Is a disaster because of your work, or in spite of it. ;-)

That's your criteria for deciding our priorities are fucked?
How about wasting 3.4 million dollar to study this crap in the first place?
How could there not be a Monty Python joke in here somewhere?
Well, in this case, it appears the parent is *irresponsible*
Won't someone please think of the cacti?!!!!

Same here. But fear not, you're sure to be sorely disappointed in the near future.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
I'm referring to Taxact Free Edition which is free for anyone to use their website and to e-file a federal return. There are no income requirements.
Simple data entry error most likely. It's pretty trivial to overlook things sometimes.
I once nearly forgot to claim exemptions for my kids because I didn't fill in how many months of the year they lived with me.

I understand from previous /. stories that this behavior is mostly the fault of the management, so apologies to the conscientious BB employees.
Both of them
Are you on FF3? Had all kinds of problems with video lately. Just updated to FF10 ESR and have had no issues since.

Doubt he'd want to compete with the crap in this toilet anyhow.
My thoughts exactly. They could offer me free hosting for life and I'd still tell them to piss off.
Yes, can hardly wait for an army of idiots walking around talking to themselves.
Stupid dancing birthday dinosaur.
How did you guess my passphrase!

Celebrate with 3.14 slices of apple pie. I refuse to slice it any thinner, as it tends to crumble.
Seems like a rational amount.
But the cake is a lie
But I thought Pi is Wrong.
Dammit, make up your mind people
