That's only half of the equation. Constant fighting between the political factions, stimulated by Colonial Europe's arbirtary division of the continent without regards for tribal boundaries (Forcing the Huutu and Tsutse tribes to live together), and corruption of their parliment have prevented African countries from prospering, as much as cash crop farming for the western world.
A large portion of Africa is farmland, but dedicated to export crops. There is little left over for staple farming. The money earned from these cash crops makes the landowners rich, which in turn makes the government rich. The profit is dumped into the military, buying jets and tanks, troops, training camps, etc to quell uprisings and 'protect' their country. Little is left over for urban development, health care, or infrastructure.
Much of the foreign aid is absorbed by the government.
Tackling the root causes is difficult, as it is not only the western world which is profiting from Africa's poverty. It is their own leaders as well.
Third world countries are stuck in a vicious cycle. Internet access should be the last thing on their minds. Basic infrastructure such as roads, sewage, hydro are needed first and formost. This will atract industry, which in turn will build more infrastructure, create training facilities, and attract more skilled labour. And the only way to do this is with gobs and gobs of cash.
As a citizen of my country, I make a consiuos decision to abide by the collective morals of the society which surrounds me. This is what is referred to as ethics. I try to act ethical in my daily life. Is it ethical to murder, rape, pillage? No. Is it ethical to prosper at the expense of my fellow man? In this society, yes, as long as it is someone in another country, or someone who is at least two social classes below my own. I am not forced to abide by these laws. I can either leave, or become incarcerated for expressing my disdain for society. Those are my choices. I can attempt to change the laws, which are pretty much the ethics of the country which I live in, but until I have them changes, I still must abide by the acceptable code.
As a person working within the ethical boundaries of the country, I am highly likely to create a set of my own beliefs. These are my morals, and I should govern myself accordingly. I do not have the right to impose these morals on anyone else (unless I am paying that person), nor does someone have the right to impress their morals upon me (unless I am employed by them AND I agree to work within the confines of their morals, as set by my contract).
Finally, when some bible toting twerp (that's bible with a small b, not The Holy Bible) calling me Hitler, I'm either going to show him that I believe his morality is off base, or I'm going to change my morals right quick, and work outside of the confines of the country's ethical beliefs.
In closing, I wish to state that I am not necessarily an anarchist (although I respect their gumption), and that you should not confuse morals with ethics, as that may one day lead you into making some very poor choices throughout your life.
Here's one for you: Why do they have any more right to life than I do? Had this been in place, I most likely would not have to bother with you right now, and as an added bonus, you might have saved my life. I'm winning on all fronts.
I might be morally bankrupt by your standards, but hey, those are your standards, and whatever ideologies you subscribe to, guess what: I don't.
Sure I'll never be the one to pull the trigger on any of these people's lives, but don't you dare have the presumption to judge my morality based on what you consider to be right and wrong. You are not fit to. There have been atrocities committed on your behalf, keeping you in the state that you are. I don't hear you bitching about how many people have been killed on your behalf, just to keep communism out of Afghanistan, communism out of Cuba. You bitch about what Hitler did, but did your country allow any of the mentally retarded and mentally ill NOW!
The slow of learning, street-children, the poor, negroes, jews... (your words) into their country before WWII? No, nobody did. How many people were mistreated making your clothes, your shoes, your pc? Lots. You still bought it.
You know what makes me sick? Moral fuckers like you who seem to clutch onto their bible as the first, last, and only rules, then proceed to bash it into the skulls of everyone.
You go preach, I'm gonna sit here watching my television made by exploited workers, eating my food which has caused massive deforestation of the rainforest, wearing my Nikes, and not giving a flying fuck what you think.
And I'll give you a hint on production: You put out better products when you have a gun to your head. Ask the Chinese. Do you own anything from China preacherboy?
Who cares if I already have ONE. I have the potential for more than one, plus the potential to make some other kid have none.
I want one for my car, one for each room of the house, and one for all my friends. When that's all done, I'll sell the rest.
Most likely. I went from a ceramic cap to a surface mount and have had no troubles whatsoever.
From what I could find out, the monitors were used in a lot of POS terminals, so there could be hundreds floating aroud that could be fixed for as little as 34 cents a pop.
Actually, this is not new to IBM. I have an old 15" IBM monitor that I had to replace a capacitor in, because they used inferior parts. Most of the time, the cap would blow, but every so often it would take the board out as well.
Definately one of the best Sci-Fi films of that time. I had to buy a DVD after I wore out the VHS Cassette. Brion James was hillarious as Gen. Munro. The look on his face after the whole 'negotiating' scene was priceless.
Hey I'm Canadian, and we're starting to get it here too. This is going to be labelled a troll, but one of our comedians wrote an apology letter for our recent behavior. Here's a copy:
A truly Canadian Apology to the USA...
Courtesy of Rick Mercer from This Hour Has 22 Minutes CBC Television
On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America. We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry. I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron but, it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all it's not like you actually elected him. I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own. I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours. I'm sorry we burnt down your white house during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's Very Nice. I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer but, we Feel your Pain. I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you wanna have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons. And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this. We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.
I am not saying that technology has not changed at all in the last 20 years, I am merely stating that many of the changes from year to year are cosmetic, aside from the changes in the second model year where the company fixes mistakes in the manufacturing processes and quality issues. Each year machines are adapted for these changes. The taillight lenses become more rounded, a new mold had to be made for the lens and quite possibly the fender. This in turn had to be prototyped to ensure that the minor changes did not affect the structural integrety of the quarterpanel that the lens sits in. Machines have to be retooled for this, and for what? A fucking rounded taillight. All I am suggesting is that if we were more lenient in what we considered a 'new model', we might not have had car prices which increased over 20 times the rate of inflation. As for major improvements, like antilock brakes, airbags, etc., I am not implying to hold off on deploying these technologies, I am merely saying that a taillight lens or a different ground effects kit on a car merely to reach their quota of changes for the new model year.
I suggest you get a car that was one of the last off the 2002 production line and get one that was the first off the 2003 production line and tell me what vast improvements have been made in the 6 or so month span that these cars designs have been finalized.
I realize that the auto industry doesn't move as fast as the computer industry, but both suffer from artificial innovation. And if you can't make a better car in 20 years, you don't deserve to be in business.
But the Linux Kernel is held back into a development phase until there are major, tested differences from the older 'model'. Sure, some features get backported from the development tree, but for the most part, the next major release is signfigantly changed from the current major release.
You mean the Tech industry, the automotive industry, etc.
This is a part of the cycle which we have made ourselves a slave to. Why does the auto industry have to change their models b x percent a year? Cars would be cheaper if they built the same car year after year, then changed models once enough aggregate advances have been made. But we pretty much tell them that they have to follow this yearly cycle of 'improvement'.
Actually, you should use the modules to test the hardware, then compile the kernel with only the drivers you need, and one with LKM on, and one with LKM off (Default). When you add new hardware, you reboot into the lkm-enabled kernel, load the proper modules, recompile the kernel for the new hardware, one with LKM, one without, and schedule a reboot.
By the same token, you should wear a seatbelt when riding in a car, but not everybody does.
Sopranos recycled the 1980's godfather era, and more to the point, Goodfellas. I will concede on Seinfeld. As for law and order, they also left out all of that tricky evidence stuff. The show has some really thin evidence, mostly circumstantial, that would appear laughable in a real court.

It breaks down in 20 minutes to pure oxygen, unless shielded by a nobel gas. It is one of the most potent oxidizing agents known.
In other words, they'd have to dump a metric assload of the shit to do any damage.
Check out this site for all of its benefits, and detriments.
Ozone will break down into oxygen in 20 minutes, so smog is a non-issue. Unpainted metals, rubber (especially natural rubbers) are seriously harmed however. From the site
With very high concentrations of ozone, metals can be attacked and oxidized but are protected if they are varnished or painted. Ozone can attack natural rubber, but the synthetic rubber shows a much higher resistance. The compatibility of ozone on materials like plastics, teflon, kynar, tygon, silicone, viton and others have no noticeable effect. Most processing equipment is made out of stainless which also shows no effect.

Fine by me. Will you be done before HURD?
I'm going to release my own OS too. Why not? It can't be that hard. I mean hell, if Bill Gates could write DOS by himself, I certainly can write one.

That kinda is the point.
