That is annoying, but you won't find me tailgating you in that situation. If there is a lane available, and I think you're going too slow, I'm going around you, even if it means passing you on the right. With the exception of the fast lane. I'll close up on you for a few seconds to "encourage" you to move right, then after making my point (even if only in my own mind) I'll pass to the right.
As I said, don't cruise in the fast lane at or below the traffic flow speed. I try to keep a safe distance when the vehicle is front of me is moving as it should. I also look to go around them when possible.
Also this isn't europe, most people around here don't seem to understand what the flash of the headlights means. About all they do seam to understand is seeing the grill of my vehicle close and personal for a few seconds. I rarely sit that close for long. Just enough to get the point across. Then I back off and look to pass the maroon.
Actually English is the most difficult major language for a non-native to learn on the planet. There are a couple obscure languages that you basically have to learn it as a kid, but of the major languages English is the most difficult.
The militaries Language school, the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) in Monterey CA uses a five level rating system for languages based on difficulty for a non native to learn. Spanish, French and the other latin based languages are category one. German, it's derivitives, and most of your nordic languages are cat two as well as several other smaller languages, Russian, and all the slavic cyrillic based languages are cat three as well as Korean and Japanese. Arabic, Persian Farsee, Pashtu(Afghanistan), and Chinese are the cat four languages. The school has tried to get whoever makes the decision, to upgrade chinese (both major dialects) to cat five, but laast I heard English is still the only cat five language.
The reason the school wants the upgrade is that it would allow a longer training period. Cat four courses are 1 1/2 years long, a cat five rating would give them a full two years.
That and with my bluetooth headset and voice dialing I don't have to touch my phone, to answer or make a call.
And so what if it drains the batteries a little faster. I have to plug it in every three days instead of every four.
Of course I don't have any sensitive info on my phone.
And as to using the phone as a bug, the technology is out there to do that with any wireless phone out there. Without using any fancy bluetooth hacking to do it either. The phone doesn't even need to be on. If you want security with a wireless, you take the battery out.
I have to strongly disagree with this statement. Can you get around with less than 40 wpm? Yes, but you will be far less productive than someone who can type faster. This even applies when programming. I find that having the ability to type quickly allows me to get my thoughts into code quickly which contributes to shorter development times.
That depends.
On formal typing tests I usually hit around 35 wpm. It as blocked me from a few jobs. But take a look at every formal typing test you've ever taken. They all consist of measuring your ability to read from one document and type what you've read into the test program.
Now try just freestyle typing. When copying a document I have a hard time exceeding 40wpm on a great day. But free style I type well in excess of 60wpm.
Most coders I know don't code word for word from a document in front of them. They know what they want the code to do, they know how to phrase the code to do it, and they just type it, and at a greater speed than any formal test would indicate they could do.
Same goes for writers.
As well with my dead-end customer support job. I don't transcribe text, I make notes based on my conversation with the people yelling at me.
Note with the Bifocal crowd, they can actually adjust for that with Lasik. They correct one eye slightly nearsighted and one slightly far sighted and the subconcious handles the rest. The nearsighted eye handles the majority of the fine detail work and reading and the farsighted eye handles the stuff farther away. I know one person who had it done and he was happy to throw away the glasses he thought age had stuck him with.
Trifocals sorry ya need to grow another eye first I guess, though that technique might still help some.
Actually not only in Lasik approved, but the miltary is even paying for it or PRK for active duty personnel. It vastly increases the capability of the personnel and reduces overall costs in annual eye exams(manditory for anyone who wears corrective lenses) and new BCG's(Birth Control Glasses) and Protective mask inserts every time the prescription changes even the tiniest bit. Plus with the protective masks, soldiers can get the mask on faster if they don't have to worry about remembering to rip the glasses off their face before they try to pull the mask on.
I would add to his question of where, the Questions of When? You say the very latest, but latest as of when. And a more specific question of where as in what kind of setup. I.E I can go to the local mall and get my eyes Zapped by Standard Optical for about $900 an eye(who wants to brag they got their eyes fixed at the mall?), other places around where I live advertise it as cheap as $299 an Eye(thats just scary).
I Chose to go with a very reputable Eye Institute Mount Ogden Eye (i.e Eyes is all they do) and paid $1250 an eye. The Clinic staff and the doctors were all very professional. They outlined the general risks very clearly, as well as the risks specific to my eyes(such as how my very deep-set eyes made it hard to correctly place the Microkeratone), and the results I should expect.
That was a year ago this month, and I have not regretted the investment one bit.
Plus having gone through it, I call BS on anyone who claims they were up and about three hours or so later.
BD because everybody I know who's had it done, had to wear the plastic eye shields all freaking day, and had to apply medicated eyedrops every two hours and regular eyedrops every hour. It makes for a very miserable 24 hours.
Of course I had the added misfortune of having a major forest fire just a few miles away adding massive amounts of irritants to the air.
So please, When did you get it done? And at what type of facility?
He used to give us fairly decent representation. Then he started recording his music, and went off the deep-end on copyright issues. His repeated attempts to amend the constitution have always been comic relief.
Unfortunately he's not up for re-election til 06, and it is doubtful the Republican party will put up any serious contenders for his seat. Demos just waste their time and money trying for a Senate seat in Utah. There is one house seat they usually do well in, but forget the Senate.
As to this issue, I'm just waiting for EFF to put up an action center item on this, once they do he'll get a fax or three on this issue.
Don't forget that a prime reason the weapons were thought to not need cleaning is that they were told they didn't need to clean the weapons.
As designed they shouldn't have needed nearly as much care, but then the DOD decided to switch to a cheaper gunpowder which left a greater residue behind. When using the powder the weapons were designed for they needed far less care and maintanence. With the new powder they need far more.
That issue was primarily fixed with the M-16A1 which increased the ruggedness, as well as by training the troops on the importance of cleaning and oiling the weapons. Which is always wise in a humid jungle theater of operations.
After those two changes, the troops realized they could pack a lot more ammo when using the smaller 5.56 rounds and the weapon recovered in popularity.
While I am in total agreement on most of your points in this discussion, I do have to note that win2k actually runs fine on a 64MB machine.
In fact I had to migrate said machine to win2k from 98 and was extremely worried about it's ability to even run.
I was pleasantly surprised when it ran quicker under W2K than under W98. Granted all we used it for was word processing and interweb surfing, and I never monitored the swap activity but it ran fine.
O and the machine was a 266mhz laptop with 64 mb of ram.
While the references indicate that the actual mileage is lower than what is claimed, the vehicles do get better gas mileage than standard automobiles.
Really? My 1999 Ford Escort gets 31 mpg. The guy with the blog gets 32mpg with his fancy new hybrid. One mpg is not a sufficient improvement, and defninately nowhere near the advertised 48 to 60 mpg.
Just because you don't understand the questions doesn't mean they were not intelligent questions.
I understood the questions just fine, at least as they were presented in the article. And I realize we are only getting one side of the story here because the FBI can't and won't comment on an ongoing investigation. However the tone and nature of the questioning as portrayed in the article was hostile and seemed to come under the assumption that he had to have subversive reasons for asking for the info.
As I said before I have no problem with them saying, that due to the post 9/11 security situation they would appreciate a brief explanation of why he wants the details. But unless he was obnoxious to the Agents there is no reason any American Citizen should have to be interrogated as to his associations.
They asked if he was part of student activist organizations, why he had long hair, etc.
Hmm and we all know that long hair is an automatic sign of a subversive activist.
Further the only acceptable reason for asking such questions is if they are doing a brief background check prior to releasing the info to him. Somehow I doubt that is the case.
In my opinion: The fact that people are willing to defend such tactics simply because they hear the word Terrorism, means that Osama and his cronies are winning the battle.
I am not happy with giving up any freedom for the illusionary Security people think we are getting in return.
It's an abnormal request - a student doesn't have an obvious need for information about the tunnels at his school.
And College students never make studies of various aspects of their campus's? He never really explains why he was curious about it, but in an academic setting that is really secondary. Now every Student and Professor for that matter is going to have to think twice about every study or project they want to do.
Last year my School was playing around with long distance wifi New Wi-Fi Distance Record Set In Utah, Gee just think of the possibilities for the terrorists with that one. They could use it to set off bombs at long distance or hack systems or something even worse. Yeah, I realize it's a rather rediculus stretch but that's the point of having acedemic freedom.
Okay maybe the request was slightly suspicous, but really any response other than asking him to explain his purpose for the request (i.e. "Why did you need this info? Due to the post 9/11 security situation we have to ask." Then deny the request.
I'd much rather have the FBI taking the time to ask some intelligent questions when confronted with suspicious activity than letting universities be blown up.
Fine but at least according to the article (I know, a/.er who actually RTFA), their questions went far beyond intelligent questions. And that is where the problem occured. They didn't treat the questionee as the American Citizen and college student that he is, they treated him as a subversive activist.
Im my experience, Windoze Update runs quietly in the background and leaves enough bandwidth on my dial-up connection that I don't really notice it unless I'm trying to dl something else. And even then it's not a real roadblock, stuff just takes longer to dl.
I find that interesting because I also run ZA and have found it amusing to count the sasser hits it has been blocking since they started hitting last friday . Check your setup
Try Apple circa 1984, they released this cute little computer with a thing called a mouse. The mouse only had one button. If you clicked it could do one thing, if you held it down for a sec it would drop down a menu to give you other options.
I beg to differ, my vote for most deadly (at least to unshod feet) would be the D8. All the D4's I've had were flat at the corners. The D8's had nice sharp points, higher dice had so many sides that the points didn't get much chance to really jab you.

Don't cruise at 65 mph in the left lane when traffic is flowing at 75+ and I won't tailgate you.

This phone is awsome. I agree witht he parent on the lowpoints.

I also wonder about the security of the blackberries, how easily can they be jammed/or at least intercepted and read.

Just wait a bit, the dupe is coming. Of course if I were a /. editor I would be tempted to dupe this one just as a joke.
