If that was the suckiest thing about that movie it would be so bad. That movie sucks more on other thing than that refference to Henry Ford "You can get it in any color you wan't as long as it's black" which does fit a car related movie.
I believe it's right in the beginning of the movie where to undercover cop races has car and spins out on a straight lane (a fool with a tool is still a fool.), listen closely to the engine sound. He goes throught 7 or 8 gears...
I don't think that the patenting op particular sequence should be possible.
It would be cool, you could sue your brother(s)/sister(s) for having their DNA look to much like yours.
Be mindfull of your parents not doing the same...
That reminded me off a special type of video cassete on which you bought a recent movie for half price. A special mechanism would trigger after the first viewing and at the second viewing the tape would be erased gradually while watching it.
So you could only see the movie twice and then have a blank tape which acted as any other tape. Everybody tought it was great !!!
After two days the net was full of articles about howto hack the tapes, you could just remove the 'erase head' (magnet) in under 15 minutes with some practice.
Oddly the tapes have never been heared of since...
Quote from the article:
Websites like Napster, which created the expectation that content should be free to download, copy and disseminate, caught the music industry off guard.
it's the second sentence and after 3 words the article lost my attention. AFAIK Napster does have a website but the system itself doesn't use it.
When people get kid-stuff like that wrong I really don't think they should be writing stuff like this. I had an aunt who used to disconnect after 'surfing the web', then dial back in to collect het E-mail...
The internet contains more than websites and not every service on the internet is a website...
I wonder if this function is going to be used much on/. or it will be taken out of the code in a week.
But what I would like to see added to the slashcode is some way for/. to cache linked pages to get rid of the awful slashdoteffect. Most people think the/.effect is cool. I think it's bad. The News or other Stuff that mattered can't be read and sometimes pages have to closed down temporarily or people even have to pay for the extra datatraffic their site being mentioned on/. created.
Th simplest thing would be for all links in storyies (and the discussionboard) to be converted to point to the Google cache. Google itself is visited even more then/. and is very well up to that task.
I am a total gadgetfreak but I have never liked the idea of wearable electronics. I am not going to wear the same underwear every day cuz it's the one with the most memory I have...
I just want something the size of a palmtop or een Nokia Communicator which can do everything I want. It will just have to be a portable computer, that's it. I want to do the same things on the bus then I now can do with my home PC and more. I wanna read my mail, play UT/Quake, etc but also make phonecalls and have a usefull PDA. Now that would be a cool device. If it would cling to my clothes that would be OK but I don't want it woven in them.
Damn I wish I was born about 30 years or so later.
I got a +1 "insightfull" moderation for that post. I was aiming for +1 "funny"...
Funny, I actually submitted this article to Ask Slashdot months ago. First time I got a submittion accepted I had already forgotten it. It took about 2 weeks and my first guess when I saw it was that someone had stolen my idea. The second time it was on in about 2 days.
This is some guys wishlist, it looks more like something from a movie than real life.
I would change "10 Linux Predictions For 2002" to "10 NewOS Predictions For the next ten years". No way all the stuff this guy is thinking of will happen in just one year, if it was possible why didn't it happen last year ?!
The replacement of Windows/M$ is something to really happen in (my guess) ten years or so.
It probably won't be Linux because by the time Bill G. is broke linux will be 15 to 20 years old. Something completly new will emerge, mostly because of the standard PC as we all know and love will be replaced by new systems (Think: clockless processors, nanotechnology etc, etc) bacause the PC is full of workarounds for errors made in it's first basic design. (XMS,EMS,Y2K-bug)
We'll have to see in 15 years or so. The most important reason for all this taking so long is something the author of the article completly forgot: People don't like/are affraid of change.
I don't think it's wise to link anything on/.
Every story posted should have the page(s) cached by/. in that why those poor little server won't burst into flames. Not to mension people paying for accessive use of bandwidth.
Some people pay a couple of bucks to get their page hosted. The hosting is OK for the 0.4 vistors a day. But when hundreds of vistors visit in a couple of hours they go WAY over their datatraffic limit. And have to pay up to $0.25 per Mb. Link to Google's cache is the least/. can do.
Bad idea: Dood, w3/.-ed that L4M3 p4g3 in s3conds !!
Good idea: That guy must be glad, his/. mirror is pretty busy. It's a good thing/. can take the hit. His own page would have died after 15 minutes.
I like the idea but I think your hand will obscruct the airflow rendering it useless.
It should draw in air on one side and blow it out on the other. The cool air would have to pass some holes on top.
Anyway... I don't know how long she can take it capt'n. a mirror.
IMHO they are doing a great job being ignoring a court-order that insane, but let's hope the judge thinks so too. (last time I made a BIG mistake with that one.)
Napster had their central server taken down, Kazaa won't be much different. But I sure hope that P2P-clients (like Morpheus or anything using GNutella) will survive.
I to am very interrested in the automotive uses of these kind of devices. the laptopmod suggested also crossed my mind. The thing I am most likely to build will just be a dash-mounted support for any laptop. The aquapad is just not powerfull enough for my liking, everything else is right down what I want: Toughscreen, small keyboard, etc. etc. I only doubt if there are sufficient ports and input devices cuz I would like to do just about anything with it: MP3 player (from CD), connect it to my Palmtop (COMPORT), GPS (another comport+CD with maps), Emulate a PSX (JoyStickPort), Play DivX, and maybe plug in an extra TFT for movies to the backseat (TV OUT).

What if we just slashdotted the hell out of one those satellites. Just to show the that decent scurity isn't luxury.
We watched a jackass marathon on MTV Holland.
Ten episodes and the gumball 300 special at the end !!
Someone please...
Mod this guy down !
-1 Off topic !!!
Offcourse you can't compare an massmurderer and a business person. But what is true: Some people suck and others don't.
the car is allready wireless, why not figure out a way to control the remote via a serial port ?
