You can't serve ads from your domain because it's the cookie from google that says what is the kind of targeted ad you want to show (based of your searches, etc.). There could be a technical solution like a direct exchange between you and google, google saying you what ad to show, but google doesn't want to give you a clue about the user, because that's their value. And for privacy concern, it is better this way (not using google would be far better, but hey).
I think this is a good measure of human stupidity. If one uses this piece of crap, this say something about its IQ, or the IQ of the PHB that forces him to do so.

About search : maybe you can permit some parts (mail addresses ? some words ? tags ?) to be indexed on the client, in an encrypted form ? To what extent it will compromise the security of a message if you know some words in it ?
Anyway, a part of a security system is simply a good memory. The most you can remember (in your head only) the better.
