If you go away for a couple of years you just wont be into it any more, especially having to put up with people who have just left high school and don't know anything of the world.

This is a plus point for greedy distribution companies (talking about the big boys here), there is no plus point for us consumers, as the savings will probably not be passed down to us.

Have you actually tried downloading a DVD with bittorrent? As it now stands you could be spending days downloading something you paid for, and it will be eating your upstream. People who are good at real IT are geeks. People who sleep, breathe and eat computers. People who spent their youths behind computers instead of dating. Woment don't usually fall into the above category (a lot of men don't either). A lot of women went into IT after 1996 because of the hype. Like a lot of men, they don't love computers, the love business. Therefore, good riddance more of these people are going.

I'm so sick and tired of having to work with people with no technical skills and no idea of how sytems work. It's these type of people who come up with horrible ideas, like running your companies intranet off access. The more we get rid of these women (and men), the better.

Hit your head on a wall a few hundred times until your IQ drops by, oh, say 50 points. Forget everything you know about anything and adopt a "You don't have to know anything about the subject matter to manage people dealing with the subjct matter" policy. Make every good thing your subbordinates achieve your personal doing, and blame their (and your own shortcomings) on them fully.

Doing the above should make you a "good" manager, and if you're lucky you will be one of the fine few that gets featured in the manager magazines. Oh yeay, and don't forget to steal someoned red stapler and send out TPS report guidlines.

BTW As you can read above I don't have a high opinion of managers. There are few good managers out there that actually "manage", but a lot of them think they're gods gift to business. They forget that often it's not them, but the people that are under them that make the profit.

Advice I would give, just respect the people you manage, and treat them like you would like to be treated. Don't bitch about peculiarities (listening to music while coding etc.) and make sure you have a full stock of fizzy drinks. Actually listen to advice they give and have them think along with important descisions. Also tell them what's going on and give them praise when they've done good. I live here in Holland and can give you a few very good reasons tv piracy is going mainstream:

1)Bandwidth (duh). Seing how bandwidth has increased considerabely, tv shows are the new mp3s. Where before you would spend 20 minutes downloading the newest single from your dialup, you can now download the latest simpsons episode.

    2) Compression Techniques. Thanks to divx you can now download series at very good quality with reasonable sizes (20 minutes is 140 MB with decent compression). With mpg you need at least double the size for decent looking compression.

    3) Bittorrent. Your bandwidth is my bandwidth. Episodes can also be listed in sites/rss feeds and quality can be assured.

    4) Commercials. Too many, too long, too irritating. Why should I have my viewing experience ruined by commercials? How come the BBC don't have any and still produce programs of superior quality to their American counterparts?

    5) Release Dates. I wanna watch Sopranos and I wanna watch it now. Not tomorrow, not next week and definately not when the series are finally releases here in Holland (ie: Couple of years).

    6) Quality of TV. Need I explain this? TV really is a waste of everyones time. Why should we have to sit through all those shity programs just to get to the couple of gems that are made? Much better to download the episodes and watch them when you get home from work to relax. That way you can spend the whole evening doing something useful instead of sitting in front of the boob tube.

These are just points from the top of my head. I'm sure I could think of a couple more if I had the time.

What is all comes down to is that the TV stations have to adapt. Suing everyone wont help. There will always be people distributing this over the internet.

A good compromise would be for the studios to set up portals where people can download the episodes direct, without commercials for a subscription fee. Fail on any of the above stated terms and people will download the episodes from bittorrent sites instead of from you.

Anyway, these are just my $0,02
