Because many ports of call won't allow a ship with armed men on it to enter. Do you really think we would allow Long Beach to be full with a bunch of well armed container ships? Once you enter a countries waters, you have to play by their rules. And that typically means you can't go there armed. Being on a ship doesn't change that. If I can't buy a 50 cal, why should I let some foreign sailor into my port with one.
Its one thing for a gas station to have a couple hundred bucks of extra propane tanks that get swapped out in low volume. Its completely another thing to expect every gas station to maintain 100+ spare batteries on hand every day. Battery prices are high because of manufacturing costs. They aren't going to drop much anytime soon. You expect all these stations to fork over $500k in battery inventory so they can make it back $10 at a time? If anything, the sudden request for millions of extra batteries will raise their pricing because they rely on exotic manufacturing processes/BOMs that can't be solved by mass production.
I don't know. Lower your grades could affect which school you get into (if you get into one at all), which ultimately could decide your salary for the rest of your life. Start off at a job making 25% less and compound that for your entire career and the economics of it can be pretty massive. Adversely affecting your grades has potential to severely limit your overall earning potential. Maybe if kids understood this a little more they might try a bit harder at times. Unfortunately, I think that most kids now a days have no idea on the actual value of the dollar until they get out of college. Tell them that Cs will earn them 20% less than As and they'll just shrug and say 'eh, whatever.'
I think to a great extent your perception of what the security around a lot of the F-35 program is a bit over zealous. F-35 is an ITAR program, which mainly means can't be worked on my foreign nationals. All the data is secured, but primarily its not on its own network. My guess is this data probably came out of a hack or someone who got access to something like a DOORS or Team Center server and just started grabbing stuff. Now granted, some things are greater protected than others. But I can say we work extensively on flight controls and other things of importance and security is there as more a nuisance than anything else.
Keep in mind F35 is not a black project. Those get their own network, machines locked behind big doors, big approval list to install programs, etc. F35 is such a large project with so many subcontractors that this doesn't surprise me one bit. Security is largly there to pass an audit, and that's about it.
This whole piece of largely fear mongering to get money approved to create some more bureucracy. Chances are nothing of importance was even gotten as the F35 will be exported to so many countries anyway.
compare the costs of expanding an airport (assuming it needs to be, many dont) with the cost of aquiring, building, and maintaining thousands of miles of rail. You can't do both cost effectively, there simply isn't the cash to go around and we've already made our decision. Like it or not, we've made our decision. And it wasn't for rail. To jump on the bandwagon because it sounds like a cool thing to do makes no sense. The cost benefit isn't there. In no way would a rail line from chicago to nyc (or anywhere else a high speed line may be built) benefit anybody enough to justify the cost. They can already make that trip anytime, anyday they want for about the same price.
At least in the US. High speed rail has little to do with our "obsession" with cars. It has to do with the fact that we jumped on the regional airport route back in the 60s. Look at between NYC and Boston. You have at least 8 airports capable of MD80/737 or larger aircraft in a radius of like 120 miles. Compare the US to anywhere else in the world and while you can point out that our rail system stinks and you can't get here from there, the plane coverage more than makes up for it. The airline industry has shown that it can be healthy and profitable, though things are rough now but they are everywhere.
From my experience trains are not much cheaper (if at all) than to take a plane for anything that is high speed rail worthy. Why would we spend boat loads on infrastructure to do trains where the end result is more expensive travel, and tons of potential job loss in the airline industy. High speed rail is nothing but pork. That's reality.
Now if you want to talk commuter, that is different altogether.
Since when is IT given an electric bill. It's not like an individual department a line item electric bill they have to budget for. It all comes out of the same operational overhead, same as water and heating. Besides, the vast majority of computer users aren't in IT anyway, so why would IT be billed for non IT workers.
We actually have signs that have just appeared showing a $600k/year savings if everyone shut off their computers. These numbers are obtained during long weekends when an extra effort is taken to ensure people power down.
Do you really think that this does not exist? It's a service/software that can be bought from any number of places. This is part of what ERP systems do. I've seen services that translate an address into long/lat and then look it up that way. Though most are simply a database of State/County/City lookups. Traditional companies have dealt with it for many years before the internet, the internet doesn't make it any more complex. Any business that started out taking phone orders has had to deal with this issue already.
Oh sure, you'll come up with the occasional nutty thing here or there. But do you really pass up tax revenue because.1% of them may not be 100% accurate? Not likely.
Does it really matter if it leaks to the surface if the rate is significantly less than we are currently releasing? And I'd have to imagine that you could control it to a rate of 100s of times less per ton of coal than we currently do. If we wait to achieve perfection we will go nowhere.
Everything is hard and complicated. Excellent leadership! So kidding everything is hard and complex. Which is why somebody has to make a decision and point us in the direction to accomplish it.
3: No, its a picture on my lcd thats bolted to the wall.
Do I have access yet? Question/Answer is just too freeform and questionable. They would frustrate way too many people as they require reading and understanding and at least some degree of thinking. If you make it multiple choice then you've really just made it a guessing game where brute force and volume will be all that matters. Captchas are annoying as well, but pretty simple to do.
Honestly, if they really cared about their story being told the way they invisioned it would have become a movie by a good directory who cares about the story being told (ie: Spielburg, Scorcesse (sp?)). Has a video game ever been able to accurately display the raw emotions of an Apocolypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, or Saving Private Ryan? Not even close. This will be nothing more than a Call Of Duty where you get a kick out of flame throwing people and watching them run around.
The emotional cut scenes will become nothing more than a chance to go to the bathroom or get a drink so you can hurry back to the killing.
I'm fine with the game, but lets advertise it as what it is. A slug fest that might be a little bit better done because they have some really good maps and military advisers.
Entirely plausible as I don't believe the Russian shitter is hooked up to the urine processor and wcs, which ultimately is fed to produce oxygen. If they aren't pulling their weight with the pee then they should have to hold their breath.
And neither of those planes have enough room in them to easily use a laptop other than in first class, of which there are about 16 seats. Not to mention no power adapters so half way through your flight you're done anyway. Sounds great on paper. Practicality wise it will fail just like all the previous attempts have. Just saying, if they are doing their rate of return simply by the number of people with laptops and some poll I think they are being a bit overzealous. Payback will be much longer than they think.

Talk about scraping the bottom for story submissions. Are we going to start getting updates to see whether Marley & Me was worth it too?

Should be "No kidding ...." :)

There were probably a lot more organzations that asked him to do exactly this.
Let me guess, sanitary engineer? :)
1: It does if I throw it hard enough
2: No, I threw it against the wall.

You're saying you enjoy being a webdev? Wow

Kosher hard drives. Oy vey!
Ya, shit. I knew that. Sorry. Either way one of those annoying songs you can't seem to get out of your head.
Everything is still in Beta. Don't think they can close any line items yet.
It's a really bad reference to a black eye peas (I think) song from about 3 years ago.
