I think the max number of speakers a portable device (as in, hand helf and doesn't include head and shoulter mounted decide) could incorporate would be 3.1
A center channel just above the screen, a speaker on either ends of the device and a subwoofer anywhere.
But honestly, that would be over kill, the associated costs and added bulk would surely not be worth it. Stereo sound is fine, just put some good speakers.
There's no way that this is meant to be used while playing games on the handheld. No sir.
As sony as mentioned, this will be an all in one media device. Let's compare it with somewhat similar media devices like the portable Archos video jukebox. It plays videos on a tiny little screen but you can plug it to your tv and enjoy the full experience.
My guess is that the PSP will have audio and video out to. Problem with 7.1 Audio is that you need an optical audio out cable, and it's not like many people even have 5.1 audio, or even receivers that have an easily accessible dolby digital input.
Anyhow, I am betting that this feature won't actually be used, they are probably just using Ps2 compatible hardware that's CAPABLE of processing 7.1 audio, but will not actually do it or output it. It's just ridiculous.
Hmm considering this is just being shown for the first time next may (9 months from now) it probably won't come out for atleast another year or two after that. At that time the playstation 3 will be out or just about out, so I don't think they'll give a damn about the PS2.
I know this is a really geeky website and we have to sex everything up with computers but there's on need for computers or wireless networks to as a goddamn question.
Have a teacher have an anonymous question drop box that he can look over and address a few of them the next lecture or at the end of the lecture.
Maybe the students wouldn't have so many questions if they actually listened and instead of posting questions and rating others. If you want to discuss the lecture with people, wait until after it is finished.
Who wants a cell phone and a handheld gaming device in one?
Then I'll be locked with that cell phone for as long as I keep playing the damn games or I'll feel stupid for owning two cell phones. Or I'll feel stupid for paying that kind of cash for a device I only use for gaming.
If nokia had released a game only device that was as small and sexy as some of its phones (with bluetooth) I think this could of been a sucess. But the entire cell phone thing throws off the entire equation.
Another thing is that some places (canada) Wireless Telcos have exclusive rights to phones in the country, so this phone/console will most likely only be available through one company and it will fail miserably. People who already have cell phones will NOT buy this.
Halo wasn't a particularly enjoyable single player experience on the console.
What made it such a great and popular game was it's co-operative play mode.
That mode has been lost in the conversion and I tihnk it's a serious blow to the game. Even if they had included it to play coop over the network it wouldn't of been as good as playing with a friend on the same couch.
I have no doubt it will be an above average game, but it won't be all that it was on the xbox.
You're forgetting a tiny wee little thing. They have an organization to run. Office building to rent, employees to pay, coffee to buy, equipement to buy, etc.
Now you're saying how would they need 2 million to do what they have in the past? Maybe they didn't have that much before? And if it is more then before then I am sure we can expect more development for mozilla.
And don't forget, some of this money is gonna be used for marketing. Mozilla needs to get its face out there. It's all fun and good that alot of geeks are using Mozilla, but we all know the world runs for average people, and those are the people that need to use Mozilla for it to become a serious contender to MSIE (it technically is).
Marc Saltzman is a total, for the lack of better words, asshat.
I've read many of his articles, seen him on tv, heard him on the radio and even bought one of his shitty books. This guy knows absolutely nothing about games and nothing about editing.
All he does is email some people he knows and asks them to write an article about getting into the gaming business and then he staples them together and calls it a book. I have "Game Design: Secrets of the sages" (or something like that) from him and it's a total piece of shit.
You'd think it would go into great detail about things since its quite a hefty book but it definately does not. Just about every second page is a new letter from a different person and 90% of the content is the same in each letter. A proper editor would of compressed the useful information of this book into a backpocket paperback.
This guy knows nothing about computers, he's just a guy who can talk infront of a camera and somehow get people to write books for him and get away with him.
The only people who would be interested in using GIMP instead of Photoshop are home users who pirated photoshop in the first place. Adobe makes its money from corporations, not home users. And there are no open source programs that rival adobe now, or in the near future.
Yes, that is SOFTWARE compression. But of course you didn't RTFA.
This burner doesn't follow ISO standards, it crams more onto a blank cd. The reason you can do that is because the current cd standard has alot of redudancy so a cd can keep working even though it is scratched. If these guys are getting rid of the redudancy theres a very good chance a little scratch could render it unusable.
they mean: can be used secretely/without the persons consent.
This is bad news.

this is from the same people who thought they could use distributed computing to render real time high detail 3d graphics.
There's still atleast 2 years until this puppy comes out, things are gonna change.
There's no way that this is meant to be used while playing games on the handheld. No sir.

Read what I think in this post
I didn't need to know that Alanis went down on Coulier in the theater.
I hope it wasn't during an olsen twins movie!
They want the same people who made the dot com bubble decide what happens in the middle-east?
Just tell them about Wi-Fi startups in the middle east and they'll throw money at it...
The guy who made funny voices in Full-House will be hosting the reality tv show based on this.
Yes I am sure it's much faster to use the command line on a freaking cell phone.
I know this is a really geeky website and we have to sex everything up with computers but there's on need for computers or wireless networks to as a goddamn question.

Gadgets in lectures will only distract you.
Maybe the students wouldn't have so many questions if they actually listened and instead of posting questions and rating others. If you want to discuss the lecture with people, wait until after it is finished.
Before you can compare mp3 encoders to aac encoders you have to find out which is the best aac and mp3 encoders to pit against each other.
NOw they know which is the better AAC encoder, so next time someone does a general encoder compairison AAC will be properly represented.

My Powerbook returns from sleep in a second.
I don't have any URLs for you but I have seen atleast 2 interviews state that there will not be a coop mode.

He's almost as much of a poser as Kevin Rose.
Phew.
"Overall, I'm quite impressed with this PDA. If this was a Palm or Pocket PC PDA, I'd say this is close to my perfect PDA."
So everything is good about it except for the OS.
He also says its "almost as stable" as the Palm OS.
If this is such a great piece of hardware then why not go all out and put Palm OS on there?
There target market obviosly is not linux users (lack of linux desktop support). what gives?
Of course C source code is portable. The the binaries are not.
Java binaries are cross platform compatible.
Last I checked, Quake3 didn't have a monthly fee. People don't want MMORPGs, people want MMOGs. There's a difference.
Who's gonna host the servers? That's what I thought.
Gimp poses no threat to photoshop whatsoever.
The only people who would be interested in using GIMP instead of Photoshop are home users who pirated photoshop in the first place. Adobe makes its money from corporations, not home users. And there are no open source programs that rival adobe now, or in the near future.

The Wavelength. Been arround since the beginning of half-life 1 and lead the community in modding! No doubt they will continue the tradition with HL2.
